DesignSpark brilha!

The Best Free CAD Program - DesignSpark Mechanical
Hoffman Engineering

his is DesignSpark Mechanical, and it is the best free CAD program that I have personally used. Many of the free CAD alternatives are clunky and hard to use, DesignSpark is the first one that truly impressed me. So download it, and give it a try!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXgMY3-hlgs

3D Printable Robotic Actuator
seanhodgins

Upon research for an upcoming project, I discovered this simple way to make very tiny magnetic actuators. RC enthusiasts have been using these for some time now, but they don't seem very well known. I think there are a lot of useful applications for these little actuators, and they are simple enough to be designed by anyone, which means easy to implement in custom projects. Follow along in the video as I show you how to make the one designed and I will explain how it works. Although I have provided the files to 3D print my design, I encourage you to try and design your own!

Versatile Press / Brake and More..
Tuomas Soikkeli

Hi!
This is my instructable about making a press. And some usefull attachments for it.
Instructable includes plans. Structure is tested with 8 ton jack.
With 6 ton jack, frame keeps it shape without any bends.
Welds are made with 3.25mm Esab ok 73.15 welding rod. I used 110 a current.
I made my press with little different way.
Jack is placed down...
It lowers the center of gravity and places the handle at a height where you can bare down instead of pulling down. Its easier to make different attachments to it, for bending, rolling etc.
..Or up.
To get more power for stamping and punching steel.
I made an attachment to mount 8 ton jack to the upper bar.

You are going to build amazing things.

Maslow is a community driven open source project with the goal of making large format CNC technology available to everyone. We believe in a world where people everywhere can collaborate, share, and build amazing things together.

What is the Maslow CNC Machine?

Maslow is a large (4'x8') CNC cutting machine designed to let you cut big, useful things out of wood and other flat materials. Cut out a tiny house, a kayak, a tree house, some furniture, or anything else you can imagine. Maslow is designed to be affordable to buy, cheap to ship, easy to use, and powerful. Because designs can be shared digitally, you can build on the work of others or create your own from scratch. Here is our Kickstarter video which is a little out of date, but explains the projects goals well.

2D to 3D, Image to Svg to 3D
Edgar

I've become fascinated with those X-Ray Videos of working Mechanisms, and so, I wanted to make some MDF cut plates of them, just for fun.
So, I went to the Net to search for some 3D Files, but the ones I've found are crap, either Homemade Firearms, or 3D for movies, so I went to do them from scratch.
Here's my tips on how to do it;
How to turn any 2D image, into an Object, or into many parts of a 3D Project.

Battery Cases for Electronic Kits.
liquidhandwash

If you have built one of the cheap electronic kits featured in my previous instructable, you probably want to put in some sort of case. Having your project in a nice looking case will really make your project look great and will impress your friends much more than a naked PCB with wires and a battery hanging off it. Your project should be something you can be proud of, take to a job interview and say look what I made!
This instructable will show you whats possible with a little thought and a laser cutter.
There are four types of cases shown here,
  •  Case without a battery or switch: The easiest to make but you will need to run a lead to your power supply.
  •  Case with a battery: Great if your kit has a switch.
  •  Case with a battery and switch: The most challenging to build, but some kits don't have a switch.
  •  Case with a push button, battery and switch.

97 Examples of Tech-Free Toys
Katherine Pendrill

From DIY Paper Box Puppets to Wooden Coloring Books

While miniature robots and app-controlled playthings may be on the rise, there is still a growing demand from consumers for simple tech-free toys that allow children to embrace their imagination. Made from minimalist materials and featuring straightforwards designs, these timeless toys prove that children don't necessarily need the latest high-tech products.
For boys, there are a number of tech-free toys that are heavily focused on building. For example, there are home-inspired wooden building blocks, cardboard architecture kits and paper-based medieval toys, all of which offer boys the possibility of building their own creations from simple and uncomplicated materials.
For girls, these tech-free toys offer creative and artistic options that go beyond traditional plastic dolls. Some of the most innovative toys for girls are empowering coloring books, DIY paper doll crafts and miniature felt garden play sets. Despite their simplistic design and lack of smart technology, these tech-free toy options for girls are extraordinarily imaginative and highly educational.

The amazing science behind HP’s new full-color 3D printers
Garage Staff

Today, HP unveiled its groundbreaking low-cost, full-color 3D printers at the annual SOLIDWORKS World 3D design and manufacturing trade event. The new HP Jet Fusion 300/500 printers are an industry first: capable of creating production-quality prototypes quickly, accurately and affordably — making advanced 3D technology accessible to a wider swath of digital innovators. And this huge leap forward in 3D printing began as HP explored a surprising realm of light — one that we’re unable to see.
Cheryl MacLeod, HP’s Global Head of 3D Fusion Science, leads the team of scientists and engineers at HP’s 3D Open Materials and Applications Lab in Corvallis, Oregon who are charged with developing the science behind the company’s portfolio of 3D printing materials. “We ultimately think of printing as a way to convey information,” says MacLeod. “And with 3D color printing, we now have an entirely new language.”
Breakthrough 1: Seeing the light
In developing the new Jet Fusion technology, HP’s 3D R&D teams called on the company’s deep expertise in the science of ink to create black fusing agents able to absorb heat at greater speeds, as is needed for 3D printing. But printing color with exclusively black agents isn’t possible, so a new solution needed to be found.

The new HP Jet Fusion 300/500 printers are an industry first: capable of creating production-quality prototypes quickly, accurately and affordably.
HP’s scientists realized that they needed a primer coat of white on the outer layers of the black parts being produced so that color could be applied and fused. But how could you create a layer of white when all available fusing agents were black? A new kind of fusing agent was needed, so that the surface of the fused part remained white, but absorbed heat as well as black. And they found the answer in an unexpected realm of light — one that we’re unable to see.

Anycubic Photon Review: A DLP 3D Printer For Less Than $500
Anatol Locker

Too good to be true? Not at all! Read our Anycubic Photon DLP 3D printer review and follow us on the journey from unboxing and assembly to the first prints.
As far as low-cost desktop DLP 3D printers go, the new Anycubic Photon DLP 3D Printer has emerged as one of the most appealing options on the market. Anycubic has a reputation for building reliable and affordable printers like the Anycubic i3 Mega FDM 3D printer. When it comes to the price, the Anycubic Photon is no exception – it’s one of the cheapest DLP 3D printers out there.
Don’t miss: 20 Best Resin (SLA/DLP) 3D Printers 2018
We recently got our hands on the Anycubic Photon, and decided to give it a test run. Although this isn’t a full-fledged review, we wanted to document our first experience with this unique 3D printer, as well as the unboxing and assembly process. We will continue to update this review as we get more familiar with this beastly little machine.
The Anycubic Photon DLP 3D printer is generating some serious buzz across the community, and for good reason. Priced right around $450, this machine is a potential game-changer for the SLA/DLP desktop 3D printing sector. But talk is cheap; we wanted to see this 3D printer in action.

Learn How to Make Your 3D Prints Truly Transparent
Pinshape Blog

3D printing continues to advance in its ability to create visually accurate prototypes, but most machines are still unable to produce optically clear parts. In this post, you’ll learn why 3D printers struggle to make objects clear straight off the build platform, and you’ll discover 3 techniques for making optically clear parts.

Why Aren’t 3D Prints Clear?
A smooth lake reflects surrounding objects, but when agitated the image warps and distorts. On a smaller scale, this is the effect that causes 3D prints made in a clear material to appear slightly opaque. Layers of a 3D print take on a slightly oval shape creating small gaps between layers that refract light and distort the image.

The above graphic from Taulman3D shows how light travels and bounces inside the layers of a 3D print. The purpose of the techniques you’ll learn today is to either add or subtract material from the print in order to flatten the layers and allow light to pass through without refraction.

The Back Pocket Soldering Kit
Bean_MD

As a budding electronics enthusiasts, I made alot of things on my farm autonomous. With that came the problem that my soldering skill is a bit dodgy.
Recently I had to repair a few of these dodgy solders, which means I had to disassemble and take the part with me to the workshop.
This is a 10km + drive.
So as it is said, necessity is the mother of invention.
This is my kit I can drop in my back pocket, in my cabby hole, I even have one in my sun visor.

Bergen Makerspace Transportable 3D Printer
johnadiamond

This is a Cartesian style 3D printer based on the popular Open Source RepRap Prusa i3 design by Josef Prusa. Further inspiration for the design came from the Folger Tech RepRap 2020 Prusa i3 which uses 2020 aluminum extrusion as the primary framing material. The key difference with the design published in this Instructable is that it can be folded up for convenient storage and transportation. It's designed to fit snugly into a carrying case that provides excellent all round protection while being transported. A key goal of the design was to minimize the size of the carrying case while preserving the 200mm x 200mm x 175mm (8" x 8" x 7") build volume.
The construction involves the assembly of several sub-assemblies which are then interconnected to form the finished unit. It is recommended that the building of the frame assembly and the attaching of the sub-assemblies is carried out in the listed order.

Arduino’s Create online platform now supports Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone

Back in November 2017 Arduino announced that it's Arduino Create platform, that enables Makers and Design Engineers to Rapid Prototype and create IoT applications in one online environment, would expand its support to Linux Intel x86 Chips.
Opening up the Create platform to these Intel based devices introduced the support for Linux and gave users the opportunity to use higher performance devices in the same familiar Arduino environment.
The latest development announced at this weeks Embedded Linux conference 2018, has unveiled that Arduino Create, can now support other Linux based platforms based on Debian or Ubuntu. This includes popular single board computers like Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone, both of which are now featured on the Create Platform with an out-of-the-box experience and enables Arduino users with little or no knowledge to easily create IoT applications from scratch using Arduino Sketches and Libraries they are already familiar with.

Motor drivers!

New products: Dual MAX14870 Motor Drivers for Arduino and Raspberry Pi
Patrick
For my birthday, I am excited to share two new products to help get your projects moving: dual motor driver boards for Arduino and for Raspberry Pi based on Maxim MAX14870 drivers, which on these boards (without additional cooling) can power motors with a continuous 1.7 A (2.5 A peak) from a voltage source anywhere from 4.5 V to 36 V. This makes the driver ideal for powering a wide range of motors including our high power micro metal gearmotors, and our 12 V 20D mm metal gearmotors. We like the MAX14870 so much that already we make a single driver carrier for it, and we use it on our A-Star 32U4 Robot Controller SV. These new boards make it easy to control two motors using the MAX14870 with an Arduino or Raspberry Pi.

Capers II, a Hexapod Robot
Toglefritz

This Instructable will show you how to build your very own hexapod robot, I call the design Capers II.
A hexapod robot is a robot with six legs. Each leg is actuated by three servos: one for forward/backward movement, one for up/down movement, and one to bend the leg in the middle. This gives the robot three degrees of freedom, allowing it to move in any direction.
Some hexapod robots are symmetrically designed, with the six legs equally spaced around a linearly symmetrical body. Capers II, on the other hand, has a slightly elongated body, giving the robot a more natural appearance and the ability to use gaits reminiscent of insects.

https://www.instructables.com/id/Capers-II-a-Hexapod-Robot/

Gandas malucos!
Impecável.

Steampunk Segway ( Legway )
bdring

A self balancing, human powered, steampunk styled, Segway. All you need is a brave self balancing human. This is the ultimate green vehicle for all you eco conscious steampunkers. Is that an oxymoron? I made this out of mostly found materials. This was my first steampunk styled build. Any good suggestions on making it look better will be incorporated as long as the materials are cheap and easy to find. I have been calling it the Legway in reference to the propulsion method. Yes, I know about those Lego self balancers of the same name.

https://www.instructables.com/id/Steampunk-Segway-Legway-/

Power Your Soldering Iron With a Drill Battery!
Chris Ray

Back in June of 2017 I moved out of my parent's house and started renting my own. One of the many things that changed was my workspace. I went from a 12' x 13' room to a 4' desk which meant I had to make some changes. One of the major changes was switching from a soldering / hot air rework station to a TS-100 as my main iron. I ended up falling in love with this little thing but I still didn't have a way to make it mobile. That is where this little circuit comes in. I designed this circuit to fit onto a Dewalt 20v Max battery and provide power to my iron, as well as protect the battery and charge my phone.

Researchers Reveal Method to 3D Print Metallic Glass Alloys in Bulk
Matthew Mensley

Materials Science and Engineering researchers at North Carolina State University recently detailed their method to produce large amounts of metallic glass alloys using 3D printing. The development could lead to better efficiency in electric motors and tougher materials and structures.
Researchers at the Material Science and Engineering department at North Carolina State University have turned to 3D printing to create a means to produce bulk amounts of metallic glass alloys. Typically produced in small amounts, the material (also known as amorphous metals) is notoriously tricky to produce in any large amount.
Unlike most other metals, metallic glass alloys lack a crystalline structure. With an amorphous structure instead, they boast “exceptionally desirable properties”, says Zyanab Mahbooba, a Ph.D student at the department and first author of the research’s paper.
