DesignSpark brilha!

The Best Free CAD Program - DesignSpark Mechanical
Hoffman Engineering

his is DesignSpark Mechanical, and it is the best free CAD program that I have personally used. Many of the free CAD alternatives are clunky and hard to use, DesignSpark is the first one that truly impressed me. So download it, and give it a try!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXgMY3-hlgs

3D Printable Robotic Actuator
seanhodgins

Upon research for an upcoming project, I discovered this simple way to make very tiny magnetic actuators. RC enthusiasts have been using these for some time now, but they don't seem very well known. I think there are a lot of useful applications for these little actuators, and they are simple enough to be designed by anyone, which means easy to implement in custom projects. Follow along in the video as I show you how to make the one designed and I will explain how it works. Although I have provided the files to 3D print my design, I encourage you to try and design your own!

Versatile Press / Brake and More..
Tuomas Soikkeli

Hi!
This is my instructable about making a press. And some usefull attachments for it.
Instructable includes plans. Structure is tested with 8 ton jack.
With 6 ton jack, frame keeps it shape without any bends.
Welds are made with 3.25mm Esab ok 73.15 welding rod. I used 110 a current.
I made my press with little different way.
Jack is placed down...
It lowers the center of gravity and places the handle at a height where you can bare down instead of pulling down. Its easier to make different attachments to it, for bending, rolling etc.
..Or up.
To get more power for stamping and punching steel.
I made an attachment to mount 8 ton jack to the upper bar.

Querem fazer, a Fabster faz.

fabbster

fabbster 3D printers build parts from different plastics. No detours, no high costs for complicated molds and tools and without long delivery times - directly from digital data.
That’s why this way to produce stuff is called “Digital Fabrication” - or short “FABBING”. Every popular CAD-software can export 3D models in STL-format; there are versions free of charge and even some which are so easy to use, they actually enable kids to design parts themselves.
Professionals use the fabbsterG to build prototypes fast, produce technical custom parts or realize creative designs. Due to the different materials it’s possible to print really functional models!

Process reliable materials - LIKE sticks

fabbster printers use LIKE Sticks that are produced using an injection moulding process, which ensures highest precision. And that is exactly what LIKE Sticks have to offer: In contrast to round filament, the LIKE sticks can’t slip and allow an optimal dosage of molten polymer.

 Guide to Professional 3D Printers
There are over 100 industry-grade 3D printer models currently on the market. These printers are large, commercial 3D printing machines intended for professional use. At Sculpteo we exclusively uses professional 3D printers.
We’ve put together a guide to these industrial 3D printers based on a selection of printers from each manufacturer that best represents the range of options out there — from price to materials to build size.
We hope this guide will help you determine the best 3D printer for your business needs. And don’t forget, you don’t have to buy your own printer to have access to professional quality 3D printing. Sculpteo offers an online 3D printing service using a variety of the printers listed in this guide.
Note on pricing: Because commercial 3D printers are sold through third-party, licensed resellers, there is not a standard retail price for each printer. Prices are only available via a quote from one of these resellers. We have recorded the pricing below based either on a quote from a reseller that asked to stay anonymous or from another online source (with a link).
The guide is organized by printer technology. For details explaining each process, check out The Different Technologies Behind 3D Printing.

Space: The Final (Maker) Frontier

Andrew Back

A look at three relatively low cost routes to getting your electronics project into space.
There was a time — not that very long ago — when if you wanted to get a functional piece of electronics into space it took an obscene amount of money and a few hundred tonnes of volatile rocket fuel. Suffice to say that, unless you were part of a national space programme, a global telecoms company or an evil supervillain, you were probably out of luck.
Thanks to ever smaller and lower cost technologies, coupled with a burning desire to get in on the action and a healthy dose of inventiveness, this is all changing — and at a somewhat rapid pace. This post takes a look at just a few of the options available for getting your project into space.

Vejam e MARAVILHEM-SE!

Spraying natural fibers to build cotton-candy surfaces

Zoe Romano

During Fab10- Fab Festival in Barcelona I met Jin Shihui who introduced me to CandyProject, a research project exploring the process of spraying natural fiber to create a non-woven textile that can be used to produce anything from building components to ornamental artifacts.
By means of air pressure we separate the fibers from a roving allowing them to self-organize and reassemble due to the surface tension caused by a fine mist of adhesive. This creates a controlled fibrous aggregation producing an emergent morphospace encompassing the initial substructure.
The robot Jin is holding in her hands in the picture above uses air pressure to separate fibers into individual strands. While the fibers are still separated they are embedded with an adhesive spray and all parameters are controlled within the robot  with an Arduino Uno:

RepRap Ormerod Commissioning and First Print
Andrew Back

Commissioning, adjustments, axis compensation and a first print.
Upon completing the construction of the Ormerod I started to go through the process of commissioning the printer. However, I ran into a couple of issues and then ran out of time due to other projects.
Having recently picked up where I left off, it quickly became apparent that there have been numerous updates to firmware and documentation — which made everything go a lot smoother this time round.
Replacement Duet board The Duet controller board that shipped with some of the earliest kits had an assembly error that meant that they needed to be plugged in to both the power supply and USB, and as such could not operate without a PC connected and with simply a network connection. Thankfully, RepRapPro offer a board swap service for those early kits and I decided to take advantage of this.

WHAT IS A FABLAB?
"Fablab" is a short term for “Fabrication Laboratory”, or, like some people prefer to call it,, “Fabulous Laboratory”.
The concept was developed in the Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) of the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT), through a course named How to do (almost) anything, lectured by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld.
A FabLab consists of a set of digital fabrication tools for rapid prototyping, such as milling machines, laser cutter, vynil cutter machines, electronics workbench, computers and programming tools, supported by open source software. This is a concept created for the community, based on "Learn by doing" education, providing the ideal environment for invention. The projects are conceived in 2D (in the computers) and get real in 3D (by the machines). What kind of things you can do in the Fablab? Almost anything, it is your imagination that rules! Currently the labs include computer controlled machines with spatial resolution down to microns, and electronics that have time resolution in microseconds...

By Francis Lamotte
Chrom-ART Accelerator™ Opens New Graphics Possibilities for GUI in Microcontroller Applications
Thanks to the ease of implementing touch sensing and the improved price points for displays and 32-bit microcontrollers (MCU), graphical user interfaces (GUI) have become increasingly present in MCU applications.
In spite of this evolution, some technical challenges have persisted. Typically GUI implementations on microcontrollers (unlike higher end processors targeting mobile appliances) have been limited depending on how much of their processing power, peripherals and memory resources could be dedicated to managing the display and graphics in an application.
Complexity of coding, and relatively limited memory and processing power for graphics management all conspired to make implementation costly and responsiveness of the GUI relatively limited.

Novelty

With its latest product, cuboro Ltd. sets foot on new terrain. Thanks to the ingenious game concept by cuboro fan Johannes Guischard, a cuboro board game for young and old is launched for the first time.

As for „cuboro tricky ways“ new and longer paths leading to various finish fields are to be found constantly. The longer a path is the more valuable it becomes. cuboro, the ingenious marble track system becomes an entertaining board game for the whole family. As for the simple game version in which tracks lead through the channels on the surface, already children from age 6 can collect many points! The full version including the tunnel functions ev

Grippy robot wheels

While trying to build a mini-sumo-robot, we found it difficult to get nice grippy wheels. So if we can't buy it, we will build it! In my research on Instructables I stumbled on the oogoo "movement"; http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/
I had some experience with silicon but that was not all positive; http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Watch-with-Nokia-3110-screen/
Especially the time it took the silicon to set was a real challenge for my lack of patience. I tried making a wheel with just silicon sealant but the oogoo version came out so much nicer.

PocketQube: CubeSat’s Little Brother
Bill Marshall

In April 2012 I posted a DesignSpark blog post on the launch into Earth orbit of tiny, cheap Nanosat satellites built to a standard pattern called a CubeSat. Thanks to the miniaturisation of electronics the format is one of a 10cm cube. Femtosats are even smaller: one design, called a PocketQube, is basically a 5cm cube and eight would fit inside a CubeSat. Surely a step too far?
