TESLA!

Easy Tesla Coil!
DrewPaulDesigns

Wireless electricity is here! From wirelessly powered lighting to wireless chargers and even wireless smart homes, wireless transmission of power is an emerging technology with innumerable applications.
A light bulb powered with no wires? A cell phone charger that doesn't need to be plugged in? A home with no plugs, no wires and everything just 'works'? It's not magic, it's no mystery, it's science!
The invention of wireless power transmission is typically attributed to 20th century inventor Nikola Tesla, though the technology may have been in use much earlier. Since then, however, improved designs and modern components make this an easy DIY project anyone can do with just a few simple parts!

Injection Molding Machine for under $100 in parts using less than $700 worth of machinery!
Wildman Tech

Here I build an injection molding machine for less than $100 in raw materials! WARNING! I use some tools in this video that cost me less than $700, so don't go into hysterics about a multi-million dollar machine shop. See me build the same parts with nothing but a hand drill here....

Bladeless Drone: First Flight
Stefano Rivellini

With 4 ducted fans, and some carbon fiber, I built a bladeless drone that I think is one of safest in the world. It uses 4, 90mm ducted fan propulsion units buried deep inside what I call a “bent tube” propulsor. The fifth “leg” is a parachute can. Hopefully I will never need it. With some help from my dad, we built the entire airframe primarily out of carbon fiber and some balsa wood. I bought all the electronics on line and was able to design the drone so that it would operate with a standard DJI multi rotor flight controller even though it doesn’t have vertically oriented propellers. With its top mesh installed its virtually impossible to get fingers and objects in contact with the blades. I submitted a patent application for my invention. I think a drone like this could have industrial applications where a drone needs to operate close to people, objects, and in confined spaces to do inspection and other activities.

Tinijet — Affordable Waterjet Cutting At Home
James Hobson

While laser cutting remains the dominant force for rapid prototyping anything made of plastic, MDF or wood, the real holy grail is the ability to cut metal — something most laser cutters are just not capable of.
In the industry, this is done using extremely high-powered laser cutters, plasma cutters, or water jet cutters. All of which are very pricey equipment for a hacker. Until now anyway. Introducing the Tinijet, the missing tool for affordable water jet cutting.
We first covered this project a few years ago when it was just a university research project called Hydro — it’s since evolved immensely, and will be available for sale very soon.

Step-by-step Guidance to Build a Drone From Scratch Using Ardupilot APM Navio2 Flight Controller
Simkaisheng

Ardupilot is a widely used open source unmanned vehicle autopilot software that is capable of performing many functions. Documentations and various sources have provided us with the basic knowledge of the setups and use each separate component of a drone but none has provided a detailed guide on how to put them together to build the drone’s hardware with guided steps of component setup and assembly from scratch, together with all necessary configuration and setups.
This article is written to combine all scattered information into one piece, to provide a step-by-step guidance from head to tail of how to build and assemble a quadcopter from scratch and how to perform all setup configurations required using the Navio2 Ardupilot flight controller. Other flight controllers from APM or others can also partly rely on this guide.

Earn Design Royalties
Sherry Wong

Professional designers can now earn for contributing to the Vention platform
We are extremely proud to release the design royalty feature, enabling designers, wherever they are located, to be compensated for designs they publish to the Vention public library.
This is a feature we had envisioned in the very early days of Vention as a way to share the success and benefits of the platform with all of our users. All of the underlying building blocks to enable the design royalty feature are now in place, and we are happy to finally make this announcement.
This is how it works: You can earn royalties of 2.5% of the design value for every design that you publish on the Vention public assembly library that is then bought by another user. Royalties are deposited in the form of credit and can be seen on your profile section on the site.
This feature is meant to encourage users to publish their designs to the public library and to foster collaboration among the community. If you are interested in viewing existing designs, you can easily browse them here by using our existing categories, searching for keywords, and/or using our Design Tags (ie. hashtags).

Researchers Make Robots Out of Paper
A team of researchers from the University of Illinois Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering has made a pair of crawling robots, Peri and Poly, out of little more than a sheet of paper, a few 3D printed parts, and a handful of screws.
The researchers used origami paper folding to create cheap robots that move like earthworms.
Poly is 51 mm wide and uses a pair of origami towers that expand and contract when twisted to make the worm robot crawl forward. The robot has directional feet made of hard plastic and rubber. The 3D-printed toes allow the robot to slide forward while the rubber heal stops it from backsliding. This particular example of bio-mimicry was inspired by the setae on earthworms.
Peri is more than twice the size, and fully mobile. Peri is 106 mm wide and runs on batteries unlike the Poly, which is tethered to the power source. Peri also uses on-board controllers to navigate.

The Problem

Over 1.2 billion people globally have no access to electricity and millions more have an unreliable supply. Instead they use dangerous, polluting and expensive kerosene lamps for light.
A typical kerosene lamp is made by taking an empty bottle or tin can, putting a wick in the middle, filling it with fuel and lighting. Using kerosene for lighting is extremely inefficient, dangerous and expensive, and it has extensive health and environmental drawbacks.

How It Works
Combining kinetic and potential energy, GravityLight works by connecting an elevated weight — filled with rocks or sand — to a pulley system that slowly powers a generator as the weight falls to the ground.

Electromagnetic Fidget Spinner Accelerator
tanner_tech
Fidget Spinners are little plastic toys with a bearing in the center. They are fun for a little bit, but get boring after a while due to their slow spinning speeds. There are ways to make them spin faster, but these methods involve using a bulky air compressor or an expensive can of compressed air. Luckily, I have found a cheap way to accelerate these fidget spinners to extremely high speeds with the power of electromagnetism. You can even hold the spinner in your hand while you accelerate it! I have clocked a spinner that is spinning with this accelerator at speeds up to 1440 RPM, that is fast. You can build this accelerator too, it is really cheap and really simple to build.

3D printed Peristaltic pumpMarco Arduino channel
A peristaltic pump is a type of positive displacement pump used for pumping a variety of fluids. The fluid is contained within a flexible tube fitted inside a circular pump casing (though linear peristaltic pumps have been made). A rotor with a number of "rollers", "shoes", "wipers", or "lobes" attached to the external circumference of the rotor compresses the flexible tube. As the rotor turns, the part of the tube under compression is pinched closed (or "occludes") thus forcing the fluid to be pumped to move through the tube. Additionally, as the tube opens to its natural state after the passing of the cam ("restitution" or "resilience") fluid flow is induced to the pump.

Spirograph-Inspired Maker Blasts Kickstarter Goals By 224%, Then 544%

Could a free toy in a package of candy change the trajectory of your life? For Aaron Bleackley, it did.
It all started one day in early 2013 when one of his coworkers got a tiny geometric drawing toy when purchasing some candy. They passed it around the office and played with it. Never having a Spirograph® set as a kid, Aaron was enthralled.
This kind of drawing toy works using simple gear interaction. Just place a gear in a larger ring and use a pen to rotate the gear around the inside of the ring. The result: A multitude of interesting geometric patterns can be created.
That night, he bought a Spirograph kit. Throughout the next several weeks, he purchased several more geared drawing toys and spent his evenings admiring the beautiful designs that he made with them.
Eventually he became frustrated, however. There was a lack of variety of design options. He wanted more pieces. The plastic from which the pieces were made was fragile and imprecise. And the gears often slipped and hopped out of the rings.
“I scoured the internet for a really good Spirograph but didn’t find anything to satisfy me,” Aaron says. “So I concluded that I would have to make my own.”

AIR-INK: The world's first ink made out of air pollutionGraviky Labs
While at the MIT Media Lab, we asked ourselves a simple question. How can we turn something as ugly as air pollution into something as useful as ink?
That’s how we came up with AIR-INK.
Through this Kickstarter, we are offering AIR-INK for the first time––as safe, refillable, high-quality, water resistant markers and screen printing ink. By using 30ml of AIR-INK, you can negate 45 minutes worth of pollution.

Welcome to GetdatGadget
GetdatGadget was founded by Roy Yap, a die-hard geek and lover of all things tech and gadgets. Roy’s love for gadgets led to the creation of this site after spending most of his spare time writing tech product reviews for the past decade.
The main aim of this site is to highlight products that we find fascinating, unique, cool, awesome, drool-inducing, time-saving, space-saving, money-saving, state-of-the-art, bleeding-edge-technology, quirky, whimsical or just plain jaw-dropping.
Through this site we hope to share our love for gadgets with you, our fellow gadget connoisseurs.
Most of all, we hope that you enjoy reading about the products we feature as much as we enjoy writing about them.
We only add new products as and when we find them and are deemed worthy to join GetdatGadget’s hall of fame. After a decade of reviewing tech gadgets, it does take quite a bit to impress us, trust us. Therefore, we do not target a fix number of postings per day and neither do we post on a daily basis. It also means that on good days, we may post close to a dozen posts per day.

$99 palm-sized PocketMaker 3D printer launches on Indiegogo
While 3D printers do honestly come in all shapes and sizes, the vast majority of models feature roughly the same desktop size – with size differences usually being negligible. While the dream is always to go bigger and wider to facilitate larger prints and more ambitious projects, there’s a lot to be said for downsizing as well. Aside from the obvious benefit of making your 3D printer extremely portable, it also means 3D printing smaller, more efficient objects and optimally using your build volume. Why be tempted to go bigger if smaller means becoming more efficient? If this sounds appealing, then the palm-sized PocketMaker might be something for you.

3D Printed 1:10 OpenRC Formula 1 car
Daniel Norée
This is the OpenR/C Formula 1 car. It´s the third generation 3D printed OpenR/C car and this time around focus is on simplicity! You can print everything in PLA except the tires which are done in NinjaFlex! Of course you can print it in any material you like but for those that want to print a car but only have PLA at hand, this is the project for you!
This guide explains how to assemble the OpenRC F1 car. If you want to add electronics to make it radiocontrolled another step will be added later.

Raspberry Pi Surveillance Rover (Land Drone)
DavidDrones
Ever wanted to have a surveillance drone to monitor your surroundings? Of course you have!
Using a Raspberry Pi for the on-board logic, this compact, mobile computer, will create a local port that streams a video in real-time while simultaneously creating Bluetooth sockets to read values sent by a custom android app. The app syncs with the drone and uses user input to send instructions to the drone instantly. This project is fairly difficult to make from scratch, so hopefully the following will make life easier and provide some insight for drone enthusiasts like myself. All the software used for this project is provided. The code used was originally written by myself, but a few lines might have come from other sources. Feel free to modify and share the code to your liking. Please use the information provided responsibly and have fun!

LOL

Power in the Apocalypse (How to build a Wood-Gasifier)
tatebullrider
In this Instructable I will be showing you the steps I used to build my Wood/Biomass Gasifier. It was really a fun project and I would encourage anyone serious about preparedness to build one. Now in case you don't know what a Gasifier is (and don't feel bad if you don't as very few people do lol), they are quite simple, let me explain. Essentially all gasification is, is a form of incomplete combustion, heat from the burning solid fuel creates gases which are unable to burn completely because of the insufficient amounts of oxygen from the available supply of air, it then filters those gasses(which is by weight: 20% hydrogen, 20% carbon monoxide, 50 to 60% nitrogen, and a little bit of methane) And you can really use any kind of Biomass(organic material) that will burn. You can even use things like paper, coal, peat, and lignite. You can then use that filtered gas to run any thing from a generator to a car. So now that you have a basic understanding of what gasification is, lets get down to the build!!!

DIY Smart Follow Me Drone with Camera (Arduino Based)
Imetomi
Drones are very popular toys and tools these days. You can find professional and even beginner drones and flying gadgets in the market. I have four drones (quadcopters and hexcopters), because I love everything that flies, but the 200th flight isn't so interesting and starts to be boring, so I decided that I will build my own drone with some extra feutures. I like to program Arduino and design circuits and gadgets so I started to build it. I used the MultiWii flight controller that is based on the ATMega328 chip that is also used in the Arduino UNO, so programming was pretty simple. This drone can be connected to an Android smartphone that sends its GPS data to the drone, that compares to its own GPS signal, then starts to follow phone, so if I move on the street the drone follows me. Of course has many failings yet, because I wasn't able to make a proffesional filming drone, but follows the phone, makes a video and also has a ultrasonic distance sensor to avoid the obstacles in the air. I think this is pretty much features from a homemade drone. As soon as possible I will load up a video about a flight, but it is hard to make good quality records with an always moving drone.

mini circular bench saw from scrap [UPDATED]
andrea biffi
Try to salvage little electric motors from scrap, because you can usually find a way to reuse them. I don't remember where this motor comes from, I've got it many years ago when I used to dismount everything I bumped into, anyway when I found it the other day I immediately pictured a small bench saw to cut metal. Not wood, because motor has a belt and a ratio so that the gear turns at a speed of about 600-1000 RPM which is good for metal, bricks, stones but wood needs very fast speed. To cut these materials you can use a disc grinder, so I bought a pair of discs to apply to my motor.
[UPDATE] I also can apply a disk of sand-paper if needed. To check speed of the disk see last step.

How to build a Desk from Pallet Wood
StephenS161
All those pallets that are thrown away....maybe they are worth their weight in gold? Seriously, is that free wood one could avail of? And recycling is good for the environment too!
So I decided to construct a desk from pallets that were going to be thrown away. This desk is intended to house a computer in the future so it has a cabinet with holes that will act as air vents. To add some style, instead of the usual plane panel as a side/leg, a mesh design is being used.
The desktop has holes to allow wires through the surface and conceal them under the surface. Instead of the usual circular holes, the word "DAD" has been routed through so as to also serve as a dedication to my father who introduced me to DIY :)
So, this instructable shows how to create a desk from pallet wood, let's go!

Aerial Photography Super Affordable Kite
hertzgamma

Hi everyone!
Here is a very fun and super easy to build tutorial on a kite that will take a camera up in the sky and let you snap those aerial photos you’ve always dreamt of. The kite actually costs pennies to make but is very effective in what it does!
It’s good fun to learn about aerodynamics rather than some rocket science stuff that will bore you to death if you aren’t already an expert in engineering.
So all you kids, makers, creators, hackers, grandmas, grandpas, enthusiasts and of course rocket scientists – follow myjourney and make yourself a kite like this!
P.S. I don’t like much text so feel free to scroll and look through all the pictures – they are really explanatory and give you everything you need to make a kite yourself!

Arduino Mosquito Repeller
webgeeks
In this instructable I'm going to show you how to build a mosquito repeller using an Arduino. The repeller is in the form of a shield that plugs into the Arduino board and the frequency of the repeller can be changed easily.
This project is ideal if you are going camping or hiking outdoors, this device produces a sound of 31KHz Frequency which acts as a mosquito repellent. The frequency of this device can be adjusted and at 23kHZ to 54 kHz it also acts as a dog whistle. Human ears are not sensitive to these frequency ranges.
You can also view the video below on how to build this project.
