About two years or so ago, videos about 3D printed R/C aircrafts popped up on my suggested YouTube feed and since then I've wanted to build one of my own. I managed to find plans online and was intrigued by the immense amount of detail given to the internal structure, unfortunately, I did not have access to a paid slicer software capable of slicing such complex internal structures and the free slicer I was using was capable of slicing only the external skin/structure.
I figured that I might as well print the aircraft files I found online with conventional infills (hex, triangle, line, 3D gyroids etc.), a feature available with almost any slicer software out there. My printed aircraft turned out to be twice the anticipated weight and had a terribly high wing loading which made it fast as rocket.

It features 2 sets of keys, one to define chords and key signatures, and another one to actually play the notes. Whatever chord is pressed in the instruments neck keys will define the pitch of the keys on the instrument handle, similar to a guitar, violin, and other string instruments; with the added advance that this one is a smart device that can interpret the scale being played from a single notes or pair of notes.

Bladeless Drone: First Flight

With 4 ducted fans, and some carbon fiber, I built a bladeless drone that I think is one of safest in the world. It uses 4, 90mm ducted fan propulsion units buried deep inside what I call a “bent tube” propulsor. The fifth “leg” is a parachute can. Hopefully I will never need it. With some help from my dad, we built the entire airframe primarily out of carbon fiber and some balsa wood. I bought all the electronics on line and was able to design the drone so that it would operate with a standard DJI multi rotor flight controller even though it doesn’t have vertically oriented propellers. With its top mesh installed its virtually impossible to get fingers and objects in contact with the blades. I submitted a patent application for my invention. I think a drone like this could have industrial applications where a drone needs to operate close to people, objects, and in confined spaces to do inspection and other activities.

sammichSID Low-Down

sammichSID was designed to be the “no excuses” MIDIbox SID synthesizer kit - i.e. for all those people who want a MIDIbox SID but consider building it with modules too time-consuming, too newbie-unfriendly and/or too hard to design and construct a control surface, and where MB-6582 is too expensive, too daunting and/or too hard to source all the parts.

sammichSID therefore has the following design constraints/features, which support each other:

-cheap
-small
-DIY newbie friendly
-minimal control surface
-single “walwart”/AC adapter supply, no C64 PSU brick!
-stereo SID, optimized for 8580/6582A, 6581 optionally supported
-“sandwich-style” stacked PCB design, no wires!
-laser-cut 3mm acrylic case by Ponoko, customization possible
-industry standard 2×20 character LCD with low-power LED backlight, -customization possible
-common control surface parts used, customization possible
-To be available as a complete kit, including PCBs, components, case, hardware and (optionally) two 6582A SIDs!
