Hello 🖐
We are Precious Plastic.
Precious Plastic is a global community of hundreds of people working towards a solution to plastic pollution. Knowledge, tools and techniques are shared online, for free. So everyone can start (yes, you too!).
We are independent, poor but free :)
Hundreds of people all over the world contribute to the project with their skills & knowledge, single or monthly donations.
Precious Plastic was started in 2013 by Dave Hakkens and is now at its third iteration (version) counting on dozens of people working on the project, remotely or on site (somewhere below sea level in the Netherlands).
Join the fight against plastic pollution.

Embossed Metal Artwork From a Pop Can
paigenoelle

While pop cans have a deposit in my state, other canned non-carbonated drinks like lemonade do not. The recycling center is a bit out of the way from me, so I wanted to give reusing these cans a try first. There’s a lot of flexibility in materials and methods in this project, so I’ve tried to highlight substitutions as best as possible.
Note: this project involves sharp edges and cutting tools. If you are looking for a project suitable for children, consider using aluminum foil as discussed in “Substitute Materials.”

Tinijet — Affordable Waterjet Cutting At Home
James Hobson

While laser cutting remains the dominant force for rapid prototyping anything made of plastic, MDF or wood, the real holy grail is the ability to cut metal — something most laser cutters are just not capable of.
In the industry, this is done using extremely high-powered laser cutters, plasma cutters, or water jet cutters. All of which are very pricey equipment for a hacker. Until now anyway. Introducing the Tinijet, the missing tool for affordable water jet cutting.
We first covered this project a few years ago when it was just a university research project called Hydro — it’s since evolved immensely, and will be available for sale very soon.

Step-by-step Guidance to Build a Drone From Scratch Using Ardupilot APM Navio2 Flight Controller
Simkaisheng

Ardupilot is a widely used open source unmanned vehicle autopilot software that is capable of performing many functions. Documentations and various sources have provided us with the basic knowledge of the setups and use each separate component of a drone but none has provided a detailed guide on how to put them together to build the drone’s hardware with guided steps of component setup and assembly from scratch, together with all necessary configuration and setups.
This article is written to combine all scattered information into one piece, to provide a step-by-step guidance from head to tail of how to build and assemble a quadcopter from scratch and how to perform all setup configurations required using the Navio2 Ardupilot flight controller. Other flight controllers from APM or others can also partly rely on this guide.

Earn Design Royalties
Sherry Wong

Professional designers can now earn for contributing to the Vention platform
We are extremely proud to release the design royalty feature, enabling designers, wherever they are located, to be compensated for designs they publish to the Vention public library.
This is a feature we had envisioned in the very early days of Vention as a way to share the success and benefits of the platform with all of our users. All of the underlying building blocks to enable the design royalty feature are now in place, and we are happy to finally make this announcement.
This is how it works: You can earn royalties of 2.5% of the design value for every design that you publish on the Vention public assembly library that is then bought by another user. Royalties are deposited in the form of credit and can be seen on your profile section on the site.
This feature is meant to encourage users to publish their designs to the public library and to foster collaboration among the community. If you are interested in viewing existing designs, you can easily browse them here by using our existing categories, searching for keywords, and/or using our Design Tags (ie. hashtags).

Hoverboard
mr_fid

Prototype Hoverboard for children.
This is a fairly quick build of a prototype hoverboard. It’s basically a hovercraft with the forward propulsion provided by your foot like a skateboard, it uses two 65mm Electric Ducted Fans (EDF’s) to provide the lift, these are each driven by a 30 Amp ESC and the battery supply if via two 3 cell Lipo’s.

The $1 Pocket Microscope - Explore the World Around You at 80x and 140x!
anisotropy

Microscopes let you explore the world around you at a small scale. With this $1 3D printed microscope, you can see tiny things in amazing detail! Looking at insects, plants, and even dirt close up can be fascinating.
I've already seen firsthand how impactful inexpensive tools for scientific exploration can be. I started this design about two months ago when I wanted a cheap microscope to bring with me to Liberia, where I participated in a program training science teachers. Some of the teachers, particularly those from rural areas, had never used a microscope before. Using this very Pocket Microscope was the first time they saw the microscopic world firsthand!

Raspi 3!

The Raspberry Pi 3, an in depth look...

vishal1502
The Raspberry Pi 3 is here. The latest version of the credit card-sized computer comes a whole year after the launch of its predecessor, the Raspberry Pi 2 and four years after the launch of the original Raspberry Pi, has its own set of upgrades. Here’s the highlights: it’s faster, it has the exact same form-factor, and yes, it has wireless on it.
The Raspberry Pi 3, with four USB 2.0 ports and a 100mb/s ethernet, a 3.5mm audio jack with a composite video output over the same port via a non standard connector, a full size HDMI 1.3a connector, a micro USB type B(5V, 2Amp) connector for power, a micro SDHC card slot, a CSI camera connector, a DSI display connector, 40 GPIO male pins, shares its form factor with its predecessor, so much so, that it perfectly fits in any one of the cases made for the Raspberry Pi 2. The good news though, that it also includes onboard Wireless connectivity.

Desta, nem eu me lembrei!

300-Piece Miniature of Injection Molding Machine 3D Printed on Zortrax M200

Ludmiła Rafalska
Being aware of the high potential of the 3D printing technology, we can often see the examples of mold casts made on 3D printers. It shouldn’t be surprising at all as it is one of the easiest way of creating intricate mold shapes fast and cost-efficiently. True, but this time one of our users Luca Toson surprised us with his idea of making the Evolution of the Idea
In one of our previous articles we provided you with some essential information about the molding technology and how it can complement the 3D printing technology for the sake of achieving optimum results. We hope you found it useful as this particular way of plastics processing is one of the most popular technique that allows to produce a wide range of goods, starting from small household objects to automotive interior parts.

É de interesse, então, este Artigo, para vocês, nesse caso;

True colours

Tim Fryer
Getting colour into a 3D printed part is not easy. Ground has been broken, claim Stratasys and Adobe, who have partnered to find a solution.
Additive manufacturing is now regarded as a technology that most of us are familiar with. But it is not really a single technology; more of a set of technologies with different levels of relevance for different circumstances. Some of these technologies are more embedded than others, although still mostly in a prototyping environment. But the technology required to produce realistic colour 3D models has been noticeably lagging.
Part of the reason for this is down to the lack of suitable 3D printing equipment and partly, according to John Gould, Stratasys president, North America: “To really mass adopt 3D printing we have to simplify the workflow. Today 3D printing is still too complex. Many times you need to be a CAD engineer to really understand the end to end workflow, and many choose to not adopt.”

Leather Tool Roll

ElmarsM

Hi!
Lately I have been trying my skills at leather working. Because of that I have been buying (and making) more and more tools and that was a great reason for me to make a leather tool roll. Since it doesn't require a lot of tools, it is easy to make it and the roll is a very practical way of storing your tools!

See an Artist Make Working Gears from Wire

Jordan Bunker
Arthur Ganson is one of my all time favorite kinetic artists, so when I found out he had a YouTube channel, naturally, I watched every one of his videos. Many of the pieces in his portfolio involve gears made of wires, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he had a video showing how he makes them.
In the video, Ganson takes you through the whole process of making a wire gear from scratch, starting with what looks like a homemade wire-bending jig. Along the circumference of the jig, there are a series of holes where pins can be inserted to mark what angle the wire should be bent to. The wire is bent back and forth to form each tooth of the gear, with each one forming another arc of the circle.

Allied Dimensions to launch LSBP 3D printer

3D Printers Online Store

The 3d printing industry sees a new desktop 3d printer almost every day; most of them look like clones of some or the other 3d printer. We have actually stopped taking about these printers as we are very skeptical about the future of these clones, but once in a while we come across a revolutionary concept printer that sweeps us off our feet. We are here today to discuss about one such printer; it’s called the LSBP 3D printer (which stands for large scale multi material).

WiFi Extender, Steam-punk Yagi?

pirobot668

So I had this shed. A nice shed. Dry-wall on the walls and ceiling. More like a 'mother-in-law' unit.
But is was so far from the house, I could not Wifi.
So I made a better antenna for my external-antenna WiFi card.
I had been mucking about with Can-tenna designs, but wanted something more betterful.
So I made this.
BTW, this machine no longer exists. Re-purposed into many bits.

Water Powered Flashlight (v2)
ASCAS
Batteries are too mainstream, let's make Water Powered ones! This is my newer version of my previous flashlight project, this time we are using pennies (literally)! The flashlight works by using water as its electrolytes.
Getting Some Inspiration From My Vacation:
I spent a third of my summer hopping on the pristine islands of Palawan. We wake-up early everyday (4:30am). We rented a boat for the tour and one thing that I've noticed, the boatman used a flashlight to prepare the boat every morning, same for the fishermen who wakes-up early. I stared at the sea for quite some time and I remembered, these men can power their flashlights using the saltwater around them.
Is It Really Powered By Water?
Th internet currently has beer batteries, lemon batteries, potato batteries and water batteries. All of these batteries are powered by the same thing - the Redox reaction between copper and zinc or aluminum. The fluid (or potato) is just the electrolyte, and any solution with dissolved ions - which is basically any solution in water at all - will serve as an electrolyte. Some chemists will react bad to this title, some aren't

Cheap, nice and weird A4 graph plotter ($25 + some scrap)
mopsiok

Hi there!
At the begining I have to warn you... The solution presented below is quite inefficient and weird. There're some foolish techniques used in this project, e.g. power output stage for the motors or my own PC software. All of these were created mainly for fun and getting skills. It might be quite hard to clone it, but I decided to publish it anyway - just want to share what I made ;). Check the video above to see how my plotter works!

http://www.instructables.com/id/cheap-nice-and-weird-A4-graph-plotter-25-some-scra/

Repurpose an old wifi router for the internet-of-things
danasf

The popularity of internet-connected devices built with Arduino shields or single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi and Beaglebone has exploded, but for simple tasks like controlling a relay, reading a sensor, watering your garden or lighting LEDs there's an overlooked (and often free) option: old wifi routers and access points.
Used APs and routers are wasting away in our homes, offices, and landfills, and though they won't match the hardware of a Pi or Beaglebone, they do usually have a few GPIO pins, a serial port, wireless and ethernet connectivity, possibly even a USB host port or Power-over-Ethernet support!

X11 is better for fingers.
Copy with mouse.
Paste with mouse.
Focus without clicks.
Raise and lower windows.
So called X-Mouse.
One and only... True X-Mouse Gizmo.
Have you ever paid attention to striking difference in the thickness of forefingers in X11/Unix and MS Windows users, respectively? The latter have much more muscular forefingers that often suffer from chronic aches in their joints. They also much more often develop mouse arm, pain in the neck and shoulders, and other troubles known as Repetitive Stress Syndrome and associated with excessive usage of a pointing device. Why?
