London-based designer Adam Nathaniel Furman is quite an all-round talent: he is trained in architecture and fine arts, but also works in areas like product design, interior design, writing, and teaching. It only seems logical that a person who is so eager for knowledge would soon embrace the world of 3D printing. Let’s take a closer look at some of his stunning 3D printed designs. 
Back in 2013, Adam had already created 3D printed ceramic objects for his ‘Designers in Residence’ commission at the London Design Museum. The project he worked on was called ‘Identity Parade’ and consisted of 3D printed ceramic vases and ornaments, painted in luminous colors and flashy patterns. For this project, Adam actually slipped into the role of a fictional designer:

It’s no secret, many of our users 3D print Ensembles, sets of parts and batches of pieces. Until not so long ago, the only way to create those was to print them one by one. This changed ealier this year, when we introduced two things: multi-upload and ensembles, allowing you to do two things very well:
  • Simultaneously upload a large quantity of 3D files in a single pass
  • 3D print off a whole set of different pieces – as long as you wanted them all in the same material

Ver isto, é maravilharmo-nos perante algo que só visto, e pasmarmos, pensando, porque é que a Trotinete não foi inventada pelos Gregos?
Porque ninguém se lembrou!
Material para apresentar em Grande Estilo, na próxima Maker Faire, em Lisboa, penso eu...





Trottinette en bois

Voici une trottinette quasiment entièrement en bois (hors axes). La technique principale utilisée est le lamellé collé, tant pour les roues que pour le cadre.
La géométrie des roues m'a été inspirée par cette vidéo de Chet Baigh.
J'ai conçu ce projet pour qu'il soit réalisé dans le cadre d'un atelier de découverte des possibilités du bois et par des adultes en majorité débutants dans le travail du bois.
Les principales pièces ont été préparées dans mon atelier et la finalisation du projet a été faite en itinérant dans le cadre d'un séminaire d'entreprise.










Mais um Artista, este não desistiu de tentar, até que fez a Impressão 3D funcionar, para algo como para obras Primas em Cerâmica, que seriam impossíveis de fazer de outro modo.

Oliver van Herpt is an artist whose obsessive compulsion has led to a victorious invention: a 3D printer which creates lovely pottery. Considering the manner in which 3D printers work, one layer at a time, creating 3D pottery has been less than elegant as each layer cannot be masked. Of course, this doesn’t even take into account how hard it is to stop wet clay from collapsing in on itself.
So, van Herpt’s elegant pottery is quite an impressive feat which was achieved by hours of intense messing about with code and hardware. In the end, this version of van Herpt’s creation is a water cut steel, delta-style printer that stands 5 feet tall and can create clay pots both big and small (yep, it even rhymes).

About five years ago, Mark Ganter, a UW mechanical engineering professor and longtime practitioner of 3-D printing, became frustrated with the high cost of commercial materials and began experimenting with his own formulas. He and his students gradually developed a home-brew approach, replacing a proprietary mix with artists' ceramic powder blended with sugar and maltodextrin, a nutritional supplement. The results are printed in a recent issue of Ceramics Monthly. Co-authors are Duane Storti, UW associate professor of mechanical engineering, and Ben Utela, a former UW doctoral student.
"Normally these supplies cost $30 to $50 a pound. Our materials cost less than a dollar a pound," said Ganter. He said he wants to distribute the free recipes in order to democratize 3-D printing and expand the range of printable objects.

Star Wars fans (like me) will get a vague sense of deja vu when they see this flying sphere in action. Weighing in at about 12 ounces (350 g), the 16-inch (42 mm) diameter flying ball can launch and return vertically, maintain a stationary hover and zip along at up to 37 mph (60 km/h). Coupled with the ball camera we reported on earlier this month, it could become a valuable reconnaissance platform. Who knows? In time, more advanced autonomous versions might actually be used to train would-be Jedi knights. Once again, life imitates art.

É um projecto bastante útil, para derreter não importa o quê, e mais económico que apenas usando resistências, usando uma limitação da corrente por reactância, vejam o texto, tanto na imagem, como na versão de texto abaixo, na página que eu referi.

ATENÇÃO - Um Arco Eléctrico só pode ser operado em segurança com ÓCULOS OU MÁSCARA DE SOLDADOR, não Óculos de Sol, nem dada disso, vejam lá o que fazem...

Claro que isto tem os seus usos, mas é um projecto de laboratótio.
Poder-se-há construír maior?
