Maker Faire Lisboa!

Lá irei, a ver as novidades.

MakerFaire Lisboa 2015

Tip From The Workbench--Finishing Springs
Gary Howes
AGI Master Gunsmith Ken Brooks demonstrates the correct way to finish the ends of a cut coil spring. This needs to be done to remove the sharp point of the last spring coil to prevent it from digging in to its seat or whatever it is up against.

How to make Electroluminescent (EL) Paint!!
LitMedia
Before you read, please vote for me by pressing the vote button in the top right of your screen! Thanks!
I first came across EL Paint when researching how to make my own EL panels. Lighting is something I really love and the applications for this type of lighting are endless!
This is my first Instructable, it's also very long - so apologies for that!
This project is also VERY EXPENSIVE to get going. Fair warning! ;)
**** I must warn everyone of the following before you begin****
- Ensure you read ALL safety directions and the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for each chemical prior to using it,
- This project deals with high voltage AC, it is very easy to electrocute yourself if you do not seal the circuits prior to applying power!
- Ensure you use all PPE (personal protective equipment) when handling the paints and chemicals! and,
- Store all chemicals in a safe place, away from children.

Desenhem! E moldem bem barato, e ainda, imprimir 3D EM GRANDE!

Technical Drawing and Drafting Primer
caitlinsdad

When I went to high school, it was a time when shop classes still existed and you could learn some skills essential for your future maker self. It was the worst of times. It was the best of times...I think one of the most important skills to be gotten out of that was learning how to draw and read technical drawings, things like architect plans, blueprints, parts specifications. If you delved further in engineering, that same precision and attention to detail is carried out in things like exploded diagrams, flowcharts and circuit schematics. Being able to do this by hand involves creative thinking and it is what I feel that is missing when you toss someone a CAD (computer aided design) package to do the same task. Sure, CAD is a useful tool but I feel if you do not know the basics of the process behind it you miss the point of being able to design with your own imagination.

CHEAP vacuum forming with plastic bottles
Tom Howbridge

This is a cool project you can do with a vacuum former and a few milk bottles,
I will make an Instructable on how to make a former but for now look at others there are some great ones,

Piccolo is a pocket-sized stand-alone CNC platform. For under $70, you will be able to assemble your personal Arduino-compatible kit for tinkering, and playing with basic CNC output. Be it plotting a quick graffiti, printing a one-off business card on the fly, or multiple Piccolos working together to create a large mural, this kit provides a platform for experimenting with 2D or 3D digital fabrication at a small scale.
http://www.piccolo.cc/

Maravilha!

3D Printed Clay Art of Oliver Van Herpt
Cabe Atwell

Oliver van Herpt is an artist whose obsessive compulsion has led to a victorious invention: a 3D printer which creates lovely pottery. Considering the manner in which 3D printers work, one layer at a time, creating 3D pottery has been less than elegant as each layer cannot be masked. Of course, this doesn’t even take into account how hard it is to stop wet clay from collapsing in on itself.
So, van Herpt’s elegant pottery is quite an impressive feat which was achieved by hours of intense messing about with code and hardware. In the end, this version of van Herpt’s creation is a water cut steel, delta-style printer that stands 5 feet tall and can create clay pots both big and small (yep, it even rhymes).

What's a Maker Faire

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth -- a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.
Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

Novidades a cores, Maker Faire, Visão Nocturna, Desktop Gremlins... Etc!

INKODYE
Designed for use on fabrics and can be applied simply by using a paint brush – as well as techniques such as screen printing.
Once the Inkodye has dried, it is exposed to natural light or UV through any type of mask. This might be anything from a simple silhouette (e.g., found object such as leaf) to a true photographic negative. In all cases, the results are guaranteed to be stunning and rapid - depending on the brightness of the light.
During exposure, the Inkodye changes from clear to one of three colours - depending on choice.

A flexible self-adhesive plastic film that glows brightly in the dark after being subjected to sunlight or UV from another source.

Can easily be cut by hand and stuck to a wide range of materials.

Sheet sizes available:
• 500 x 350mm
• 250 x 350mm.

Shown here with the UV Energizer Pen, available separately.

These pigments normally have a pale, off-white appearance but in sunlight or UV light they instantly change to a bright, vivid colour.
The pigments revert to their pale colour when away from sunlight or UV light.
The active photochromic dye is contained in micron-size microcapsules dispersed in water to make up the pigment, which has the consistency of thick cream.
If the pigment is mixed with a binder such as our acrylic base, it can be permanently applied to almost any surface.

LOL

Not getting the sunshine you were hoping for?
Cheat with the Portable UV energiser pen.

The pen has an anodised aluminium body. It is battery powered and is operated with a toggle switch.
Great for UV investigations and experimentation. See Glow in the Dark Film above for sample use.

Requires 1 x 9V PP3 battery.

Vão lá ver!

Maker Faire 2013 Slide Show!

Every year that I attend Maker Faire in San Mateo, I am more and more impressed at the caliber of talent in this community of makers. I am so grateful to be immersed in so much creativity and excellence. This year was certainly no exception. I had the opportunity to talk with many of the exhibiting Makers and am excited to see how the Maker Movement continues to grow as technology becomes more accessible, and innovation happens faster. Here is a small sampling of the photos I took at this year's Faire - It starts at the Instructables booth and Skee-Ball machines, and tours the rest of the faire! Enjoy!

DIY Infrared Night Vision Device
eyebot117

I've been involved with airsoft for about two years being affiliated with a large local group of people in our community who meet regularly and have scheduled games, ops, and events. Airsoft is a great sport and hobby that encourages teamwork, honor, respect, communication, and discipline (as well as how to wisely make purchases). I recently played a game at night and realized how cool it would be if I could utilize some form of night vision. The more I researched it, the more I wanted to see in the dark somehow.

Unfortunately, true night vision in even the lowest quality can cost hundreds of dollars just for the optic alone, excluding hardware necessary to mount the optic to a helmet or airsoft rifle. It's expensive technology. However, there are alternative methods for seeing in the dark. There are several versions of educational night vision viewers and toy spy binoculars available on the market for kids and...um...well, geeks like me. They utilize low-lux cameras, infrared illumination, and a display for a more affordable $50-$80 system that can still see in the dark. This is the system I chose to utilize.
