Re-inventaram a roda!

Fenomenal!

An Ingenious Shock-Absorbing Wheel for Bikes and Wheelchairs

Joseph Flaherty

Whhen Israeli farmer Gilad Wolf broke his pelvis in 2008, he resolved not to lets his crops wither on the vine and became determined to turn his wheelchair into a workhorse. After suffering the pain that came from traversing the bumpy rows of his field in a stock chair he began developing new designs better suited to off-road applications. He experimented with solutions based on farm equipment and ultimately took his concepts to the Rad-BioMed Technology Accelerator in Tel Aviv where he got the help required to transform concept sketch into a patent-pending product called SoftWheel.

Eis uma bancada de trabalho motorizada, boa para toda a esécie de trabalho, e para assim não darem cabo das costas, quando aparece um trabalho imprevisto, a uma altura que não estão à espera:

Scissor Bench - Adjustable Height, Motorized Workstation
SlickSqueegie

I salvaged an old drive motor from a lift chair I replaced for my father. The chair was junk but the motor and drive was still working fine. So I removed the chair elements and kept the motor and actuator.
I wanted to make a scissor style lift workstation. One that would work more at a seated position. Ideally I was making a scroll saw bench that could easily change height for another person to comfortably use. But I realized quickly that you could use this in a lot of different applications. An out feed for my table-saw, joiner or planer.
I made this with all construction grade material to keep the cost to around 20 bucks. I used old window washing or paint extensions sticks for the pivot points.

Eis senão quando, se compraram uma Cortadora Laser, e querem agora é uma Fresa CNC, pois este bacano resolve:

Make a CNC mill with a laser cutter

joebell

So, you have a CNC laser cutter but you want a CNC mill? Problem solved.

This project is a small CNC mill that can be assembled from store-bought and laser-cut parts for about $800 without machine tools. (If you have access to a shop with a chop saw and a drill press that'll be helpful, but you can get by with a hacksaw and some wrenches.) As pictured it has about a 4" x 6" x 1.5" working volume, but it can easily be expanded and modified.

The killer app for this is making custom printed circuit boards. But it can also make plastic and wood machine parts (including all its own parts), mill custom aluminum instrument panels, create stencils, and make artistic etchings for print-making.

I've included both Adobe Illustrator and Autocad DXF files for the custom parts, as well as an Arduino sketch for controlling the brushless motor.

Microscopes are awesome! They help us see things that are not visible to bare eyes. Optical microscopes can only see micro scale (1/1,000 millimeter) structures. However, you can explore nano scale (1/1,000,000 millimeter) world by Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM). Yet a stock-ready AFM usually costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy. Thus we are providing you a solution to make your own AFM optomechanical system out of daily used parts including optical pickup unit (OPU) in a DVD player and piezo buzzers in your watch. The total cost is between 500 to 1,000 dollars. Most of the traditional AFM systems use beam deflection method for monitoring the AFM probe, the low cost educational AFM directly use an OPU for the same purpose. This low cost educational AFM is originally designed and made by Dr. En-Te Hwu, Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. Idea of using circuit boards as structure: Sebastian Buetefisch.

10 Tips and Tricks for Laser Engraving and Cutting
geordie_h
Hello, I'm Geordie and I currently work at ADX Portland running the Laser Cutter and Engraver. My job is to take in customer's projects, set them up and run them on the laser. As a result, I've learned a few tricks for how to set up jobs to get the best results, and in this Instructable I'm going to pass them on to you.
The laser I work with is an Epilog Helix and the program we use to run it is Corel Draw. I'm going to try to write in general terms so you can use what ever laser and program you want to.
Note: For several of these tips it is important to understand the difference between Vector files and Bitmap files. Vector files are mathematical formulas defining lines, circles etc. These are created by programs like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, AutoCAD and Corel. Bitmap files are collections of individual pixels. This included digital photos, Adobe Photoshop files, JPGs etc. With the Epilog laser (and I'm assuming other ones) you can only cut with a vector file. You can engrave with either vector or bitmap files. For several of my tricks you need your file to be a vector file for the trick to work.

Homebrew Arduino Pulse Monitor (Visualize Your Heartbeat)
ASCAS

Movies look cool with those EKG (electrocardiogram), the one that beeps and detects heart activities. A few months ago, we had to shoot a hospital scene for our school project. We needed an EKG instrument. To keep the movie authentic, we didn't want to fake the readings so we made the next best thing, a pulse monitor. Since my dad is a doctor he gave me some advice to design the pulse monitor.

This Instructable is for a prototype homemade projector that can be illuminated by any decent LED flashlight/floodlight.

This is my first published instructable so please leave comments and/or suggestions! Any feedback is very welcome and I will try to respond to everyone as soon as I see it!
At this stage the iTorch is a kit that I hope to be able to make available if I were to somehow get my hands on my own laser cutter. I have been spending a good amount of money using school equipment to laser cut this project, and got a quote to use the 3d printer and the price was astronomical. So needless to say a laser cutter and 3d printer would go to good use and be greatly appreciated.

Though you could probably reverse engineer one of your own. ;)

Fix a car bumper dent with some easy DIY

Allison Blackburn

If you have ever had a dent on your car bumper you will know how maddening it is, more so if it wasn’t your own fault. It’s bad enough if you prang the bumper but if you park in what you think is a safe spot and then return to the car to find your bumper messed up, it’s annoying to say the least. In some cases the dent may not be as bad as it first looks, however it looks unsightly and you will want to get it fixed. The downside is that taking it to a mechanic will cost you a pretty penny and of course it can take time to get the car booked in, meanwhile you have to drive around in a car with a crunched bumper. Well not anymore as you can fix a car bumper dent with easy DIY.

Microstructured materials as strong as steel yet less dense than water
Grant Banks

Researchers in Germany have developed a lightweight, high-strength material inspired by the framework structure of bones and wood and the shell structure of bees' honeycombs. Created using 3D laser polymer printing combined with a ceramic coating, the material is less dense than water but, relative to its size, boasts strength comparable to high-performance steel or aluminum.

How to remove a dent from wood

trev25

After moving some furniture, I inevitably damaged some of it by dropping a heavy tool on it. I'm going to show you the technique I used to fix it and remove the dent without using wood filler.
This technique works great for wood floors and dining room tables, too.
I did this at TechShop.

Podem fazer Moldes de Espuma de Poliuretano, sem dar barraca, e sujarem tudo, seguindo os conselho deste nosso amigo, de Lojistas, a Aeromodelistas, todos podem lucrar com aprenderem esta Técnica:

Junkbot in Resin lonesoulsurfer

Mostly I've been sticking LED's into resin. The 'ibles for these can be found which can be found here, here and here.
You could virtually stick anything you wanted into the resin; I decided to go with a “junk robot”! In my dancing robot Instructable I also used a couple of junk robots so if you want some more inspiration check out the ‘ible here
Junk robots are really easy and fun to make. All you need is some old electronic hardware and circuit boards, super glue your imagination and you’re away. I find that the older the electronic components the better. My junk robots were made from parts I scavenged from an old video player and tape recorder, but really you could use just about anything to make them. Just type in junk robots into Google and you’ll see what I mean.
The following will take you through how to make a junk bot, stick it in resin and light him up.

Maker Station: The Portable Reconfigurable Work Station for all MakersMatt2 Silver
When I started this project I wanted to build a work station that I could use for a variety of projects and that I could take with me when I do demonstrations. I also wanted something that wouldn't be flimsy and something with a lot of utility in terms of usable surfaces and storage options. After a lot of sketching, research, playing around with 3D models, and good old trial and error I came up with the Maker Station, a re-configurable, collapsible, portable work station that has everything you'd want when your ready to set down and make something awesome.

In this Instructable I will be teaching you how to build a maker station of your own, I'll cover The various tools and materials you will need, I'll discuss the concepts and designs that influenced the final product, and then I'll walk you through the build process so that you'll have all the information needed to successfully tackle this project. Along the way I'll share tips and tricks I learned during the build so that you can hopefully avoid some of the obstacles I tackled while building my Maker Station.

Fast Simple Bead/Boilie (fish bait)/Slingshot ammo rollerDrPeper
Introduction:
Polymer clay bead rollers seem a bit expensive to me. Plus they only make them in one size and a set of shapes. So I thought I could make a quick and simple one for cheap! First off I should make the disclaimer that "I made it at TechShop", so I had a lot of great tools at my disposal. One of the other members in the shop had some clay that he used for a project that had gotten plaster and dirt in it so he was going to throw it out, so I rescued it to make slingshot ammo out of. I'll be writing an instructable on making a slingshot soon!
The basic concept is you have a cylinder sawed in half lengthwise to give you two half cylinders. You put a measured amount of your medium (clay or polymer clay) into the center, rub the two halves together and you get a perfect sphere.
Now you can use these for making polymer clay beads for your jewelry project. You can use these to make perfect little spheres of fish bait, the English call these "Boilies". We in the States just call them dough bait balls. I also used this to make perfect ammo for my slingshot out of clay. It's biodegradable and non-toxic.
