In this class I will show you how to control motors that are suitable for building go-karts, electric scooters, large robots, and much more. This requires a very different set of knowledge and skills than would be necessary for controlling a small hobby motor.
This class is intended for students with some experience working with motors, and mechanical systems. By the end of the class you will learn how to pick the correct power supply, build a control circuit, and adjust the speed of a motor. You will also learn how to make a circuit which reverses the direction the motor is spinning.
Motor control is demonstrated by a range of techniques such as using motor controllers with analog throttles and also with Arduinos and motor controllers.

Why would I want a tiny oscillscope? I've got a room full of electronic Stuff including four oscillscopes. But it's a fuss using them. It would be nice to have something that fits in my pocket, that sits next to the circuit I'm working on and that's as easy to use as a multimeter.
This oscilloscope costs the price of an Arduino Nano (£2 and a display (£3) plus a few pence for resistors, etc. It's specification is:
  •  max 1M samples/second, min 1000sps
  •  8-bits per sample
  •  DC 0-5V; AC +/- 550mV, AC +/- 117mV, AC +/- 25mV
  •  USB "PC scope" or built-in display
  •  could be battery-powered
  •  optional logic display
  •  optional frequency meter
  •  optional voltmeter

This project describes the design of a very low budget 3D Printer that is mainly built out of recycled electronic components. The result is a small format printer for less than 100$.
First of all, we learn how a generic CNC system works (by assembling and calibrating bearings, guides and threads) and then teach the machine to respond to g-code instructions. After that, we add a small plastic extruder and give an overview on plastic extrusion calibration, driver power tuning and other few operations that will bring the printer to live. Following this instructions you will get a small footprint 3D Printer that is built with about an 80% of recycled components, which gives it a great potential and helps to reduce the cost significantly.
On one side you get an introduction to machine building and digital fabrication and on the other side you get a small 3D Printer built out of reused electronic parts. This should help us to be more conscious about the big problems related with e-waste generation.

2 Ideias geniais! E mais um Torno de Madeira a partir dum Engenho, Vácuo barato, e um Osciloscópio dum Smartphone!

Dica da Wonder Engineering, este Sistema de Paletização, Motion Cube, da Festo, parece-me também ser uma solução perfeita para sistemas de Treliça CNC muito mais rápidos, simples e económicos.
Ainda por cima, é modular, o que significa que se podem imprimir peças um comprimento e largura incríveis!
Mas vejam só a ideia, um par de rodas dentadas em cada eixo, e uma placa que é nada mais que 2 perfis de Cremalheira:




Transport system allows individual mass production 
Festo is developing a modular palletising system that will transport workpieces independently and simultaneously to different assembly stations, allowing different processes to be carried out on each item, and resulting in individually customised products. The system, called Motion Cube, has won the Automation and Robotics category of the 2015 Handling Awards announced at the Motek show in Germany this week.
The system, which is still at the prototype stage, consists of modules containing a drive mechanism in a cube-shaped housing that transports pallets from one module to the next and allows specific assembly tasks to be carried out. The modules are combined to form matrixes that depend on the application.
Different products can be handled in parallel, making simultaneous processes possible and saving time. Unlike conventional conveyors, several travel commands can be carried out simultaneously. Individual pallets can be overtaken and workstations can be skipped, if required.
Because conventional conveyor systems transport pallets on conveyor belts, the operating system and the sequence of pallets are fixed. To change the sequence, you need to install deflectors and several conveyor belts, adding cost and requiring more space. Festo says that the Motion Cube palletising system, by contrast, can be deployed flexibly and can react immediately to any changes in sequences and target positions. It can be expanded easily and can be adapted quickly to changing production conditions. More positioning modules can be added at a relatively low cost, allowing the palletising system to be expanded or modified almost without limit. The system also allows production lines to be set up in small spaces.

I was scratching my head about this concept for ages, but I'm pleased to see now that it works and share it with you all! Here's a way to make Lathe attachments for a drill stand. It's cheap, and you won't have to dismantle an old drill to do it. 
One thing I should probably mention before we go on, is that this is essentially a mini lathe. It's certainly not cut out for tough jobs- like turning a quadrilateral form into something circular. This jig is more for adding details, making tool handles from old branches and broom handles etc. Tougher jobs would require tougher bearings, speed control, etc.

For this project I'll demonstrate how to build a Raspberry Pi based oscilloscope that is also a Wireless Access Point.

Câmara Digital Arduino, Osciloiscópio USB 3.0, Ar Puro, e Velas Dinamite!

Craft Camera

Craft Camera is a simplified D.I.Y digital camera.
It is established of a carboard case and an electronic system runned by Arduino.
All the elements are Open Source, allowing users to master the use and the life expectancy, or to build it as Do It Yourself.
The simplification of the device allows to privilege the spontaneity in the recording. Photos are stored in a memory card, and can be displayed on the computer.

Pico Technology launch a range of USB 3.0 PC Oscilloscopes

The first PC oscilloscopes with a USB 3.0 interface have been released by Pico Technology.
“USB 3.0 ports are appearing on most new computers and laptops,” explained Managing Director Alan Tong, “so buyers of USB oscilloscopes will expect to benefit from the higher data transfer rate. With the new USB 3.0 PicoScopes, large data captures and streaming of large data sets are now much faster.”
The PicoScope 3207A is a 2 channel USB oscilloscope with 250 MHz bandwidth, 1 GS/s sampling rate, 256 MS buffer memory and a built-in function generator. Basic timebase accuracy is ±2 ppm. Other features include digital triggering for accurate, stable waveform display, and equivalent-time sampling, which boosts the effective sampling rate to 10 GS/s for repetitive signals. The PicoScope 3207B has 512 MS buffer memory and an additional 32k-sample arbitrary waveform generator with 100 MS/s update rate. As the scope obtains its power from the USB port, there is no need for an external power adaptor.

NASA-developed Airocide tech cleans household air


Some time ago, astronauts on the International Space Station needed a way to eliminate the ethylene gas that was being produced by plants growing aboard the station. NASA collaborated with the University of Wisconsin, and the result was an air-purifying system known as Airocide. Flash forward to the present, and that technology has been licensed for use in a household product that reportedly eliminates all sorts of airborne nasties.
Airocide purifiers have actually been in use in places such as grocery stores and food-packing plants since 1998, and were introduced to medical settings such as hospitals in 2003. Now they're finding their way into the home for the first time.

Dynamite Candle Holder

n this instructable I'm going to show you how to make a candle holder for tealights, that looks like a dynamite stick.

Just in case you are wondering, dynamite and TNT are not the same thing. It's a common misconception, that is just plain wrong. Dynamite was invented in 1867 by the Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel, while TNT was invented in 1863 by the German chemist Joseph Wilbrand. Whilst Dynamite is simply nitroglycerin in a more convenient form, TNT is Trinitrotoluene, so the two are two totally different chemical compounds. The stuff formed into short sticks and wrapped in paper is actually dynamit, not TNT... From now on should somebody sing "Cause I'm T.N.T., I'm dynamite" or should you see a TNT stick shown in a cartoon, you will know better.

Now that I got that off my chest ;-) let's go back to the project. The idea is not new, I've seen a "TNT" candle as part of the Red Dead Redemption merchandise and after searching a bit I found a version very similar to the one I had in mind at Meninos. What bothered me about it though, other than of course it saying "TNT" on it was the shiny finish. So I decided to make my own version.

Um Osciloscópio a partir da Placa de Som dum PC!


PC SOUND-CARD SCOPE INTERFACE FACILITATES DC RESTORATION
To start with I must appreciate acknowledge and thank ‘Christian Zeitnitz’ for the fantastic Sound-card Oscilloscope & signal generator software available at his website on which this Instructable is based.

While working with the PC sound-card oscilloscope and signal generator I found the following limitations:

1. A low Input Impedance of the order 10 Kilo Ohms
2. Input voltage range limited to 2.8 V p-p
3. AC coupling of the I/O signals
4. Output voltage limited to 2V p-p
5. Sampling rate limited to 44kbps

Not much can be done about the sampling rate as it is a limitation of the sound card but the scope interface presented here attempts to improve the other factors.

Most significant is the addition of circuitry to estimate the positive and negative peak DC values of the signal and use this to offset the waveforms providing a realistic DC-coupled scope display.

Steampunk Floating Arm Desk Lamp

Like many of my projects this began with the chance finding of a lovely old brass bowl in a thrift shop. I paid a dollar for it and walked out thinking "I love the patina - it would make a great lamp..." and when I got home tossed it into the box of brass bits and pieces collected over the years from my frequent visits to the recycling plants, the junkyard and the thrift shops I frequent. I forgot about the bowl for nearly a year and then had a hankering to make a floating arm desk lamp in the Steampunk genre and re-discovered the bowl. This provided the impetus and I went looking through my boxes for other bits and pieces which could be re-purposed to provide key elements of the construction. Many of my projects start this way and in a sense, this is what makes them difficult to present as a how-to-do-it instructable. So much of this depends on what bits and pieces you may have to hand or can find, that even planning is no more than a vaguely realized "Concept Drawing". The actual details will vary depending on what components one can find, or, in hitting a problem, how one chooses to solve the problem.
