Toca a fazer!

Rocket Boat
makjosher
Every year in October, some friends of my parents have gotten together at a cabin next to a small pond. As a kid it was one of my favorite times of the year, as it meant I got to hang out with my two favorite cousins and one other friend. One year we got the idea to build a simple wooded boat and attach some model rocket engines to it. We built the boat and launched it from the dock. That boat only went about 6 feet, but an annual tradition was born. Over the next few years we built several more boats - most were dismal failures. Eventually, my brother decided to have a go at building a boat and his boats were considerably more successful. We gradually increased the rocket thrust and even added a second rocket stage. Our most successful run made it around half way down the pond before the boat lifted off the water and tumbled out of control. This year I decided to build my first boat in quite some time - this is the story of that boat.

Smartphone Controlled Cat Laser
Ikkalebob
I've been wanting to start exploring the world of microcontrollers and programming for some time now, so I came up with this simple project which uses an app called "Blynk" to allow you to wirelessly control an Arduino board through your wifi. Now obviously the end result isn't the most practical device you'll ever build, but this was a great way for me to learn the fundamentals of programming Arduino and it can help you to learn too.
I've tried to arrange this project in an easy-to-follow format so it's ideal for someone who knows nothing about Arduino, but there's a lot of room for tweaking and improvement in my code that would allow more advanced users to get some use out of this project too.
This is a project that's been done before a few times, but I wanted to add something new by giving the system remote control functionality.

DIY Magnetic Hand-Saw Guide - Extremely Accurate Cuts!
Yonatan24
I think handsaws are WAY better than circular saws for many reasons, but I always come across one problem: I'm never able to saw perpendicular, aka square, at a 90° angle. You can see the example for this here.
I have (finally!) received the saw that I won back in the 2015 Shelving Contest with my Ultimate Magnetic Pegboard. It's extremely sharp, beautifully made, and has a really comfortable handle. However, it is very thin, and doesn't have any aligning support on the top, so it bends really easily while sawing.
A well known solution for this is a Miter-Box. I've bought one, but it just doesn't work. Instead of having the sides hold the saw, I just saw into the plastic...
One day I was daydreaming a bit: "If I take that magnetic dovetail jig that I saw in one of Jay Bates' videos, and align it differently, will I be able to use it for sawing at 90°, perpendicular, and square to the wooden board that I'm sawing?" So I do a quick search and: "Wait, WHAT? It costs 50 DOLLARS?"
"OK, nevermind. I'm making my own!" I decided that I'd make myself a magnetic guide, which ensures that the cut will be square in all directions. Alternatively, you can modify it, and use it for dovetails, miters, or anything else.

Make a Router Planing Jig
WOmadeOD
No Planer/Thicknesser, or maybe it's not wide enough? If you have a router, then this router planing jig might be right up your street.
I built mine as an improvement over what I've used in the past to plane wide planks for waterfall tables. I estimate it halves the time to get the same job done as before - not bad for something cheap, easy, and quick to build!
Let me show you how I built and use it.
Use the Instructable and video to make your own - there is even a SketchUp model for free download!

CNC Drum Plotter
lingib
This instructable describes an A4/A3 plotter made from a section of plastic pipe, two BYJ-48 stepper motors and an SG-90 servo. Essentially it is a flat-bed plotter rolled up into a drum.
One motor rotates the drum while the other moves the print-head. The servo is used to raise and lower the pen.
This plotter has a number of advantages over a traditional flatbed plotter:
significantly smaller footprint
only requires one linear guide rail
simple to construct
cheap
An on-board interpreter accepts the gcode output from Inkscape.
Communication with the plotter is via a bluetooth link.
The plotter is compatible with the CNC Graphics Tablet described in my instructable http://www.instructables.com/id/CNC-Graphics-Tablet/.
While not a precision instrument the accuracy of this plotter is satisfactory for its intended purpose of transferring watercolor outlines on to paper.

Making Custom Lenses
Robb

The world of optics and lens manufacturing has traditionally been closed off to non-experts. It doesn't have to be that way. Using rapid prototyping tools like 3D printers and CNC routers, making a lens is easier than you might think.

You can use the technique outlined in this Instructable to make very large lenses, lenses that produce special effects, and sculptural lenses with freeform shapes. You'll need to know how to use a CNC router or have access to a nice 3D printer. With one of the two you'll be able to start making lenses right away.

Long Bed Printed 3d Printer
dmserve

The Long Bed 3d Printer was created to see how much of a 3d printer could be printed. That lead me to design a frame that could be printed on a heated bed, soon discovered I needed a larger build surface. After making a way to accurately control a larger bed, I had the maximum size that the frame pieces could be. By combining different parts I was able to get the main frame down to 9 pieces.

This Printer Can Reproduce Most of the Parts to make itself
Thanks for Checking This Out

The DIY Laserline
by slurgXX

I have a project coming up, that needs a laserline, that creates a line over a 3 dimensional object in order to mark and cut it somewhat precicely. I´ve attached some pictures, materials i used ( materials i didn´t use) and some shots after finishing the piece.
But lets get to it, here is what you need to bild the thing*
*( some parts are just what i had around, and can be replaced with other random similar stuff, but we get to that later.)

Gosto disto. LOL

Gigabot Proves Even 3D Printing is Bigger in Texas
Tyler Winegarner

After their wildy successful first Kickstarter back in 2013, re:3D’s latest iteration of Gigabot, an extra large 3D printer, is Open Gigabot, which currently has two days left on its Kickstarter campaign. The Open Gigabot files are being released on Wevolver, a social enterprise for open source hardware.
Make: spoke with re:3D Co-Founder Katy Jeremko about the ecological inspiration behind the jumbo-sized printers. She says that re:3D wanted to “allow individuals worldwide to 3D print composting toilets or other human-scale solutions from trash.” The team decided to focus on developing a toilet printer, now known as the Gigabot. (Jeremko mentioned that they later found 3D printing with trash to be extremely difficult!)

Move over 3D printing, self-assemblng 4D-printed materials are on the way

Donna Taylor

Molecular self-assembly, whereby molecules position themselves into defined arrangements, is commonplace in biological systems and nanotechnology. But researchers at MIT are working on so called "4D printing" technology that aims to bring the process up to the macro scale, enabling 3D-printed materials to be programmed to self-assemble into predefined shapes and structures. Just imagine buying some flat-pack furniture, bringing it home and enjoying a coffee whilst you watch it assemble itself.

This month, Skylar Tibbits, director of the MIT Self-Assembly lab, was named as one of the six Architectural League winners for collaborative research into programmable materials. The 4D printing process (with the 4th dimension being self-assembly over time) involves the use of materials that change their shape in response to movement or environmental factors, such as the presence of water, air, and/or temperature changes.

Monkey Light Pro turns bicycle wheels into colorful, animated displays

Jonathan Fincher

There are plenty of interesting ways to deck out your bicycle, but MonkeyLectric may have come up with the ultimate way to make it stand out on the road. The company's new Monkey Light Pro is a set of LED bars that attach to a bicycle wheel and can be programmed to play colorful animations

This isn't the first light-up bicycle wheel system we've seen, and MonkeyLectric itself has produced other models in the past, but none have been as elaborate as this. Over the last two years, the company has been hand-making prototypes of the newer system for special events and projects. During that time, the developers practiced their manufacturing processes with smaller products until they felt ready to launch a more complex system.

Simplesmente... Genial!

Lumigrids – the LED projector that keeps cyclists out of potholes

Chris Wood

Lumigrids is a simple, clever and above all useful concept that aims to improve the safety of cycling at night. The device is an LED projector that fits on the handlebars of your bicycle, projecting a square grid onto the ground before you. By looking at the changes and abnormalities in the grid, the cyclist is able to easily pick out potholes and other obstacles, helping them to avoid potential crashes and falls.
The team behind Lumigrids claim that the design is an improvement over traditional bicycle lamps, which casts shadows around both concave and convex obstacles, making it difficult for the rider to judge the surface effectively. Lumigrids' grid projection system makes it a lot easier to identify the nature of the abnormalities, with the squares of the grid bending and changing in an easy way for the rider to process.

Fiz um desenho em Acetato, com a disposição do Circuito Integrado, e das Pilhas, com a atenção de alinhar o Laser com o cano, e não com a caixa;

Build a Laser 3D Printer - Stereolithography at Home
RobHopeless
Here is how to make a Stereolithography 3D Printer. It is still a bit of a work in progress but so far it is working pretty well. This is mainly an experiment which started as a Delta Robot Stereolithography Printer but ended as a more traditional Cartesian Stereolithography Printer.

A US$49 personal autonomous micro UAV?

Ben Coxworth

Imagine if you had your own tiny quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that you could control with your voice, that would automatically follow you while avoiding obstacles, and that could shoot and stream video of you using an onboard camera. Now imagine that you paid less than 50 bucks for it. Well, if the hype is to be believed, that’s just what tech firm Always Innovating is promising with its MeCam.

NASA working on RASSOR robot space excavator

Jason Falconer

Recently we've seen preliminary asteroid mining plans from Planetary Resources and Deep Space Industries, but what about NASA? The government agency would like to do some excavating on the Moon, Mars, and asteroids, too – but it isn't in it for the profit. NASA wants to clear the way for construction projects and mine materials for use by astronauts, and is developing a teleoperated robot called the Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot (RASSOR, pronounced "razor") to get the job done.

Scientists turn light into a tractor beam

David Szondy
From The Skylark of Space to Star Wars, no self-respecting science fiction spaceship would break orbit without a tractor beam on board. We’re still a long way from locking on to errant shuttlecraft, but a team led by Dr. Tomas Cizmar, Research Fellow in the School of Medicine at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, has turned a laser into a tractor beam that works on the microscopic level.
Tractor beams are one of those things that seem on the far edge of what’s possible. The idea of a beam of energy streaming out that pulls things in is counter-intuitive, but scientists have been developing things that work like tractor beams since the 1960s and light manipulation has been tried since the 1970s.

How to Make Homemade Ultrasonic Cleaner Solvent

An ultrasonic cleaner is a cleaning devise that helps to clean delicate and hard to clean items using ultrasonic and cleaning solution. Ultrasonic cleaning is the most effective method of cleaning and can be easily incorporated into any industry as well as home.
Ultrasonic cleaning is not only meant for industrial use. It is widely used for cleaning, fragile, delicate items like jewelry, watches as well as cleaning stubborn dirt. Portable ultrasonic cleaners are boon for home makers cleaning which uses ultrasonic cleaner solution to clean the items effectively.
Ultrasonic cleaners use high frequency sound waves to agitate the cleaning solvents. This in turn makes the ultrasonic cleaner solvent particles to clean dirt from the substances with a very high speed. Thus, even stubborn stains could be completely eliminated.

Brazilian researchers develop new anti-inflammatory for severe pain

By Antonio Pasolini
Researchers at Butantan Institute in São Paulo, Brazil, have developed a powerful new anti-inflammatory to relieve hard-to-control pain. Initial tests have confirmed the efficacy of the medication, which is based on a protein found in the blood.
The main breakthrough of the research is the successful synthesizing of a protein produced by the human body, the calcium binding S100A9. Under certain conditions, this protein is used by our bodies to keep pain under control. To make the medication, the scientists discovered that only a small part of the protein is required, which leads to reduced production costs.
According to researcher Renata Giorgi, the discovery represents an important step forward in relation to drugs available in Brazil. In particular the new drug offers two important advantages: it is more powerful and it can be administered orally.
