Lusideias!

Isto promete...
Dica da Prtuguese Entrpeneurs;

MacroFab Eases Path from Prototype to Production

Jon Christian
When Nick Johnson Kickstarted Re:Load Pro, an electronics testing tool he developed that draws the same amount of current regardless of the voltage across it, he worried about the time-consuming prototyping process he’d experienced with Seeed Studios and Smart Prototyping, both of which had required a Gerber format and bill of materials before they could provide a quote.
Instead, he decided to work with MacroFab, which builds prototype circuit boards uploaded with a slick online tool — and then, crucially, lets customers order a full production run once they’re satisfied with the design.
“The much shorter feedback cycle of MacroFab’s online tools aren’t to be underestimated,” Johnson said. “I can quickly see what parts are actually available, with real prices, and get a good line-by-line indication of which things are worth spending the time to try and optimize or replace. I can also see quickly how big an impact different price breaks will have.”

Mini Hydrogen Generator

spaktashabit
This instructables is for b moody showing him how to make a small low cost hydrogen generator. I made this for under 25$ and puts out about a half a cup a min.

Centrifugal Casting machine from a washing machine
Pirate_Prince
This project came about, out of sheer necessity as I will explain shortly.
I have to say from the start though that, this is NOT as per say, how to do it yourself with step by step instructions and parts list (though I will do my best to list those parts that I had to purchase). but how I did it and possibly how you could also do it, following some of the basic steps I took, that is, if you need one of these and like me, can't afford to buy even a second hand one let alone new and *can* get hold of a suitable washing machine like the one I have used and are good at DIY as well as have some basic electrical and electronics understanding.

Making Custom Lenses
Robb

The world of optics and lens manufacturing has traditionally been closed off to non-experts. It doesn't have to be that way. Using rapid prototyping tools like 3D printers and CNC routers, making a lens is easier than you might think.

You can use the technique outlined in this Instructable to make very large lenses, lenses that produce special effects, and sculptural lenses with freeform shapes. You'll need to know how to use a CNC router or have access to a nice 3D printer. With one of the two you'll be able to start making lenses right away.

Long Bed Printed 3d Printer
dmserve

The Long Bed 3d Printer was created to see how much of a 3d printer could be printed. That lead me to design a frame that could be printed on a heated bed, soon discovered I needed a larger build surface. After making a way to accurately control a larger bed, I had the maximum size that the frame pieces could be. By combining different parts I was able to get the main frame down to 9 pieces.

This Printer Can Reproduce Most of the Parts to make itself
Thanks for Checking This Out

The DIY Laserline
by slurgXX

I have a project coming up, that needs a laserline, that creates a line over a 3 dimensional object in order to mark and cut it somewhat precicely. I´ve attached some pictures, materials i used ( materials i didn´t use) and some shots after finishing the piece.
But lets get to it, here is what you need to bild the thing*
*( some parts are just what i had around, and can be replaced with other random similar stuff, but we get to that later.)

BRUTAL!
Gosto disto. LOL

Gigabot Proves Even 3D Printing is Bigger in Texas
Tyler Winegarner

After their wildy successful first Kickstarter back in 2013, re:3D’s latest iteration of Gigabot, an extra large 3D printer, is Open Gigabot, which currently has two days left on its Kickstarter campaign. The Open Gigabot files are being released on Wevolver, a social enterprise for open source hardware.
Make: spoke with re:3D Co-Founder Katy Jeremko about the ecological inspiration behind the jumbo-sized printers. She says that re:3D wanted to “allow individuals worldwide to 3D print composting toilets or other human-scale solutions from trash.” The team decided to focus on developing a toilet printer, now known as the Gigabot. (Jeremko mentioned that they later found 3D printing with trash to be extremely difficult!)

Arduino announces its first ready-to-roll robot

Ben Coxworth

Arduino has made quite a name for itself over the past several years, with its single-board microcontrollers making their way into a wide variety of DIY electronic devices. Given that many of those devices have been robots, the company has now taken the next logical step forward – it’s released its first-ever complete robot.
Appropriately named the Arduino Robot, the 7 x 4-inch (178 x 102-mm) circular wheeled device utilizes two stacked Arduino boards. The Control Board, which sits on top, reads the various onboard sensors and causes the robot to react as programmed. The Motor Board, on the bottom, controls the motors that drive the two wheels. Two unpowered ball casters located opposite the wheels keep the robot propped up.

New technique for turning sunshine and water into hydrogen fuel

Lakshmi Sandhana

A new technique developed by a University of Colorado Boulder team converts sunshine and water directly into usable fuel. The technique involves concentrating sunlight in a solar tower to achieve temperatures high enough to drive chemical reactions that split water into its constituent oxygen and hydrogen molecules. In this way, the team says it should be able to cheaply produce massive amounts of hydrogen fuel.
The team's solar thermal system concentrates sunlight off a vast array of mirrors into a single point at the top of a tall tower to produce very high temperatures. When this heat is delivered into a reactor full of metal oxides, the oxides heat up and release oxygen. The reduced metal oxide now gains a chemical composition that makes it ready to bind with oxygen atoms. Introducing steam into the reactor, which can also be produced by heating water with sunlight, causes the compound to draw oxygen atoms out of the water molecules, leaving behind hydrogen molecules that can be collected as hydrogen gas.

Ring Weeder gets to the root of the manual weeding problem
Dave LeClair
Removing weeds can be annoying, especially in an area with a lot of plants. Ring Weeder slips over the user's index finger and allows for precision weed pulling all the way down to the root.
When taking a hands-on approach to weeding, the challenge is to make sure that the pesky invader is pulled all the way out, root intact. If it's not a clean extraction, there's a very good chance that the weed will just grow back and you'll have to try again.
Ring Weeder is worn like a ring over the gardening glove, and has a forked end that the gardener sticks in the ground behind the weed. The offending plant and root are then removed with a smooth dig and lift motion. It's a simple tool, but one that could prove to be a time saver for anyone who does a lot of gardening

Solid Fuel Type Hydrogen Fuel Cells Deliver High Efficiency and Increased Safety

ROHM, together with Kyoto-based Aquafairy Corp. and Kyoto University, have co-developed compact, lightweight, high-power hydrogen fuel cells designed to power smartphones and other portable devices. These fuel cells overcome the drawbacks of dry cells, lithium-ion cells, and direct methanol fuel cells, significantly reducing weight and increasing output power while providing a higher level of safety, making it possible to provide power in places where AC power is not available or cannot be used.

Graphene coating makes copper almost 100 times more corrosion-resistant

By

Following on from news out of the University at Buffalo earlier this year that a graphene varnish could significantly slow the corrosion of steel, researchers from Monash and Rice Universities have used a graphene coating to improve copper’s resistance to corrosion by nearly 100 times. The researchers say such a dramatic extension of the metal’s useful life could result in significant cost savings for a wide range of industries.
Metals are often treated with polymer coatings to help prevent corrosion, but their protective capabilities can be easily compromised by scratches. Although graphene is only one-atom thick and is invisible, not changing the appearance or feel of the metal, it is exceptionally strong and much harder to damage. This gives the material enormous potential for protecting metals even in harsh environments.

Disney Research develops 3D printed optics

Jason Falconer

Researchers at Disney Research Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University are experimenting with 3D printed optics using clear resin. Printed optics can create a variety of effects within 3D-printed objects, from focusing light within printed prisms to channeling light through honeycomb-like "light pipes," which give the effect of individually lit pixels.

One of the examples of the new technology uses a mobile projector and internal light pipes to transfer projections through an object, giving a printed toy a pair of animated eyes. An obvious benefit of the technology is the reduction of electronic components. Entire toy lines that would normally require individual LCD or LED displays (and batteries) for animated parts could use light pipes partnered with a single mobile projector to accomplish the same effect.

New Process for Hydrogen Storage and Release
The elephant in closet of the loudly promoted hydrogen economy was that we had no practical method of storing a high concentration of hydrogen. A little thought showed one that we had to store it using chemical binding as an intermediate step. During the Second War, the Germans learned how to use hydrazine (NH3) for this purpose. Of course, it was scarier to work with than pure hydrogen.

Now we seem to have a possible solution using ammonia borane. The yield and process conditions seem sufficiently benign that it can work quite well in this role. What is not addressed is how we might produce the Ammonia Borane. That is often the real problem. I think hydrazine needed 600 atmospheres and high temperatures and all the costs associated.

Scots Engineers Prove Space Pioneer's 25-Year-Old Theory

by Staff Writers
Glasgow, UK (SPX) Jul 27, 2010
When American space pioneer, Dr Robert L Forward, proposed in 1984 a way of greatly improving satellite telecommunications using a new family of orbits, some claimed it was impossible. But now engineers at the University of Strathclyde's Advanced Space Concepts Laboratory have proved that Forward was right.
The late Dr Forward - a renowned physicist who worked in the United States and from his second home in Scotland - believed it was possible to use 'displaced orbits' to deploy more satellites to the north or south of the Earth's equator, helping to meet the growing demand for communications.
He proposed that the orbit of a geostationary satellite could be pushed above - or below - the usual geostationary ring around the Earth, which follows the line of the equator, by using a large solar sail propelled by the pressure of sunlight. However, critics later claimed that such 'displaced orbits' were impossible due to the unusual dynamics of the problem.
Now graduate student Shahid Baig and Professor Colin McInnes, Director of the Advanced Space Concepts Laboratory, have shown that Forward was in fact correct, in a new paper published in the Journal of Guidance, Control and Dynamics.

Dyson to advise government

Entrepreneur James Dyson has been recruited by the government to give advice on how to boost innovation and productivity.

The inventor of the see-through Dyson vacuum cleaner is being asked to help Trade & Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt to come up with ways of helping the UK to compete against countries with much lower trading costs.

Mr Dyson has first-hand experience of the problems.

Last year he caused controversy by moving production of his vacuum cleaners from Malmesbury in Wiltshire to Malaysia, with the loss of 800 jobs, although for 210 of the workers alternative roles were found at Dyson's headquarters.
