O nosso amigo Jon Cantin, explica-nos aqui muita coisa sobre o Fabbing, e ainda vos oferece projectos com explicações passo-a-passo, enquanto vos fala com linguagem concisa e directa ao assunto, nascida dum Saber de Experiência feito;

CNCKing.com Volume 4: Rise of the CNC - Ultimate CNC Design Course

Jonathan Cantin
Two years in the making - CNCKing.com: Rise of the CNC ~ Ultimate CNC Design Course teaches the fundamentals of designing products to be cut with a CNC Table Router, CNC 3D Printer or CNC Laser Cutter & Engraver. Across more than 450 pages, 64 projects are shown in various formats to help teach the reader how to successfully design for these CNC machines.

Very Simple Vacuformer

This design was inspired by this: http://www.fringeneering.com/2012/07/vacuum-forming-on-mega-cheap.html but designed to be super easy to make using off the shelf parts and minimal machining. Instead of using laser cut or 3D printed parts, we will use toilet flange extenders, available at Home Depot to make the base and the clamp that will hold the plastic to be formed (disposable plastic plates work great).

http://www.instructables.com/id/Very-Simple-Vacuformer/

Paper Mouse - Download and Make

This fun paper mouse project comes complete with its own piece of cheese to cut out and make! Members can download the parts for free at the link, thanks for signing up! Non-members can download the parts file for £2.50.
Print out the single sheet of card onto thin card. 230 micron /67lb is just right.
Score along the dotted lines then carefully cut out the parts.

Multiple Raspberry PI 3D Scanner

Hi,
I am a big Arduino and Raspberry PI fan and also love 3D printing. I wanted to be able to make a 3d model of my kids and started investigating how to build a 3d scanner. I found a lot of solutions out there, but the problem with most of them is that the subject would have to sit still for a while... well I think it would be easier for me to invent a spaceship that can fly to mars then inventing a solution for my 2-year old son to sit still :-( So none of those solutions where going to work.

I knew I had to come up with a way to instantly take many images at the same time. So I first started to research what cheap digital cameras exists. If I could find a cheap model, I probably could make an automated trigger system using arduinos. But then I would have all the images on many separate SD cards and I was not able to find a cheap good digital camera.

Then I noticed the Raspberry PI and PI camera combination. A "fairly" affordable module, that already is ethernet connected, so I could do the triggering of the cameras using the network and an easy way to download all the images to a centralized place. So my Project (and investment) started.

Magnets Are Weird

In this article, we discuss a few things that might make you question what you think you know about magnets.  We’ll show magnets stronger at the edges than at the center.  We'll see magnets that won’t attract to center upon one another.  We’ll even make the north pole of one magnet stick to the north pole of another.
Mental Models of Magnets
The forces between magnets have long fascinated us.  It is a strange thing to think about: forces that you can’t see can cause things to move.  Albert Einstein described his first interest in science stemming from his fascination with a magnetic compass at a young age.
When we think of magnets, most of us think about how they work in terms of an analogy:  We might think of magnets as having invisible mechanical springs between them.  Or we follow simple rules that apply in most situations:  “Opposites attract” or “the north pole of one magnet attracts to the south pole of another” to predict their behavior.
In many cases, this way of thinking works pretty well.  In some situations, though, it completely fails to predict the actual behavior of magnets.  The “model” is too simplified, and doesn’t accurately describe how magnets behave.  Whenever we find magnets behaving in ways that don’t seem intuitive, we find ourselves muttering, “Magnets are weird!”

Overclocking Arduino UNO with liquid nitrogen

I must be missing the over-clocking gene, but a lot of modders love to push a piece of kit that bit further, sometimes by any means necessary.
That seems to be the case with a modder called Michail who has managed to overclock an Arduino using liquid nitrogen, no less. Cooling to -196°C he hits speeds of 65.3MHz.
Why overclock a dev board with liquid nitrogen? He answers this one in a blog post – because he could, and he wanted to learn how electronics behave at cryogenic temperatures. And he says he was just curious to see “how much juice you can squeeze out of AVR if you push hard enough”. (AVR is the “C” environment for programming Atmel chips.)

Using a Ratchet to Drive a Key

I'm working on a project for client that has a decorative clockwork key on its side. I'd really like key to turn as the model operates. The character itself will be jumping up and down so I'm trying to harness this motion to turn the key. If I can get the mechanism to work well it would apply well to a clockwork robot model like the one in the sketch below which I can then make into a model for robives.com.

Super Brittliv!

Genial!
MUÁHÁHÁHÁ

Nerf Vulcan Sentry Gun

BrittLiv
In this instructable, I will show you how to modify a Nerf Vulcan to automatically aim and fire at targets.  As an added bonus, this gun won't fire at anyone wearing a shirt with the instructables robot on it. I had this project in mind for a long time and finally managed to find the time to bring it to life.

If you've been browsing through my other instructables, you might have noticed that I am obsessed with Nerf guns. So far, I’ve managed to infect just about everyone around me with the Nerf virus. It is really fun to see how these plastic toys turn grown men into small boys!

My main aim was for it to look awesome; which was difficult to achieve without removing the front part of the gun. But, I managed to accomplish this without removing the barrel, and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

7 Things To Fix Or Do With Oogoo

mikey77

Silicone caulk be hacked into all kinds of useful things. This adhesive has the unique qualities of sticking well to some things and not others. This makes it easy to cast into many shapes. If you add corn starch, it can be cast or formed or glued into shapes of any thickness and it can set up within an hour. I call this mix Oogoo.

This instructable shows how to fix or make seven things:

Step 2- Make heavy duty rubber bands

Step 3- Make your own custom erasers

Step 4- Make a wallet pen

Step 5- Make a hot pot gripper

Step 6- Fix a broken bucket handle

Step 7- Make liquid tape to insulate splices

Step 8- Make a thread locker for nuts and bolts

Phono Horn. Free Sound Dock for your Smart Phone to Download and Make.

Phono-Horn. A paper sound dock for your smart phone! Play your phone through the Phono Horn and the sound output is richer and clearer with improved bass response. There are two base templates included, one for iPhone 4S and one for Samsung Galaxy S2 and S4. It should be easy to adapt the kit to suit most phones. It is simply a matter of ensuring that the loudspeaker on the phone is positioned over the horn inlet hole.

Building UP an ArduCopter!

husamwadi

Today's guide will be about building an Arducopter, or otherwise known by the locals as "Flying Hedge Trimmer".

My greatest problem with the world of  RC and hobbyists is that there never is a complete guide on doing ANYTHING!

The experience of learning how to build a hexacopter from no knowledge is basically a big scavenger hunt for information. There was always bits and pieces, but never a complete guide for the build log, hardware, AND SOFTWARE (99% of the build).

I'm here to change that issue, so hopefully I can enlighten Instructables with a COMPLETE guide on building a Arducopter!

Twist-off cork shifts the wine paradigm

David Szondy

What could be nicer than a picnic in a pleasant country field, a rotisserie chicken, a loaf of oven-hot bread and a nice bottle of wine? That is, provided you don't forget the corkscrew. This week, Amorim, the world’s largest manufacturer of cork stoppers, and O-I, the world's largest glass container manufacturer, made this nightmare scenario a little less likely by unveiling their Helix cork and bottle that are designed so that the cork can be removed with a simple twist of the wrist.
The Helix “twist to open” system consists of an ergonomically-designed cork stopper and a glass bottle with an internal thread finish in the neck. Instead of requiring a corkscrew, it opens like a screw-top bottle, though with the addition of a pleasant “pop.” It is also resealable as easily as it opens.

LOL

Robot Duck

Is there a convenient way to enable whole classes to get involved in robot building..?

This ‘kit of parts’ has all the basic components – including pre-cut plates – needed to get a robot walking, but not all the final answers.
Creative involvement ranges from investigation of mechanical variables to a major re-think of geometry. Or how about a simple hand-coloured body for the duck.
..

Another Country makes contemporary craft furniture by hand in workshops in the UK and Portugal. We believe in good design, longevity, sustainability and quality at fair prices. Welcome to anothercountry.com
In Portugal we manufacture one hour south of the beautiful city of Porto. We filmed one of our visits to show you how our furniture is made...
The workshop is unique in being climate controlled, ensuring our furniture is made in an optimal environment. Whether we made in the UK or Portugal, we always select FSC certified solid woods. The workshop is heated entirely by the wood off-cuts it generates.
We combine traditional methods of making with modern technology to ensure that each piece is made with great care, attention to detail and precision. Every piece is hand assembled and hand finished. And finally, each piece is quality controlled before leaving the workshop.
We really believe you can not make furniture in a better way than this.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Visit the blog and follow along with the development of a new, as yet un-named project featuring three syncronised rowers in a boat.

Possibly a Ship of Fools or possibly a Wolf Boat, I'm not sure yet. One thing I have worked out though is the mechanism to drive the oars.
Follow along how this project develops on the website by clicking on the link.

Table pour pantographe de défonceuse

Co-axial Crank-slider coming soon
I'm almost done with this co-axial crank-slider, just the assembly photographs to process. A crank slider mechanism uses a crank, the rotating bit at the bottom, and a slider tube hinged onto the top of the box to convert rotary motion into an up and down, back and forth motion.
The co-axial part means that two sliders share the same axis to make a more interesting motion.

http://www.robives.com/blog/co_axial_crank_slider_coming_soon

Magnetic tapes

You can use these magnetic tapes in various sizes and colours to label steel shelves and metal cupboards. You can cut the tapes to the desired size with scissors and they are easy to write on.

Magnetic tapes with self-adhesive backside come in handy when you want to attach a non-magnetic object (e.g. a sign) to a magnetic surface. The self-adhesive tapes also stick together, so you can connect two non-magnetic objects with each other.

Six less ordinary sensors
Andrew Back
This post looks at six slightly more esoteric ways of sensing the environment.
So many projects use commonly available sensors to detect heat and light levels along with pressure and movement etc. However, these represent only the tip of the iceberg and there are many more ways of sensing the environment and that range from useful, through unnerving to surprising.

The hypocycloid mechanism is used to make a compact, simple gear box that reduces rotational speed. In the case of this animation the reduction is 7:1. Follow one of the lobes of the six pointed rotor with your eye and see how it advances one notch anticlockwise for each rotation of the blue rotor. By adding two similar mechanisms back to back it is possible to multiply up the the gear reduction ratio

Graphene aerogel takes world’s lightest material crown

Darren Quick

Not even a year after it claimed the title of the world’s lightest material, aerographite has been knocked off its crown by a new aerogel made from graphene. Created by a research team from China’s Zhejiang University in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering lab headed by Professor Gao Chao, the ultra-light aerogel has a density lower than that of helium and just twice that of hydrogen.
Although first created in 1931 by American scientist and chemical engineer, Samuel Stephens Kistler, aerogels have recently become a hotly contested area of scientific research. A “multiwalled carbon nanotube (MCNT) aerogel” dubbed “frozen smoke” with a density of 4 mg/cm3 lost its world’s lightest material title in 2011 to a micro-lattice material with a density of 0.9 mg/cm3. Less than a year later, aerographite claimed the crown with its density of 0.18 mg/cm3.
