Inventarium na FIL


A Inventarium Science, que dá no duro pelos Inventores Portugueses, esteve presente no Festival IN - Inovação e Criatividade.


Na foto, da esquerda para a direita, a adorável, e incansável, Drª Cristina, esposa e braço direito do Presidente, a seguir, o Eng. Francisco Banha, da Gesbanha, o Eng. Fernando Lopes, o tal Presidente da Inventarium Science, o Eng. Cordovil, Vice-presidente da Inventarium, e o Inventor Francisco Pinto.

Várias personalidades ligadas à Inovação receberam este galardão, a Medalha de Mérito Científico e Criativo:


Tais como o Presidente Honorário da Inventarium Science, o grande Vitorino Moreira Fernandes, co-fundador da extinta APC a antiga Associação de Inventores, 


 
o Eng. João Marcelino do INPI, e autor de vários livros sobre Patentes.




 , e vinda da Hungria, Roxandra Pamukova, representante da Federação de inventores da Bulgária.



Estiveram expostas as Medalhas e Invenções de vários Inventores, dos quais espero material para aqui postar, e as minhas!



Da esquerda para a direita, da mais recente para a mais antiga: Medalhas de:
Ouro, para o meu Invento triosk, o Veículo quiosk para paraplégicos;
Prata para o BusStopper, aparelho para a paragem de números específicos de Transportes Públicos, para Cegos;
E outra de Prata, de Genebra, e de Bronze de Nuremberga, ambas para o meu primeiro Invento, o Desenhador de Elipses.
E também mais abaixo, a medalha de Homenagem Esportiva de São Paulo.

A nossa Catarina Mota, vai falar nesta importante Conferência!



MAKE magazine hosts an inspired conversation and curated tour of the unique culture, enabling technologies, and innovations of the maker movement.

Catarina Mota, Co-Founder of openMaterials Catarina is a maker of things, a research scholar, and an open source advocate. She co-founded openMaterials.org, a collaborative project dedicated to do-it-yourself experimentation with smart materials, and altLab, Lisbon's hackerspace. She has taught numerous hands-on workshops on hi-tech materials and simple circuitry with the goal of encouraging people with little to no science background to take a proactive interest in science, technology and knowledge-sharing. Catarina is wrapping up her PhD dissertation on the social impact of open and collaborative practices for the development of technologies. She is a fellow of the National Science and Technology Foundation of Portugal, co-chair of the Open Hardware Summit, TEDGlobal 2012 fellow, and member of NYC Resistor.

SteriPEN Freedom offers USB-powered water purification

Water purifier manufacturer SteriPEN has updated its lineup of portable products, with a UV-based unit called the SteriPEN Freedom. Billed as the smallest, lightest and first rechargeable UV water purifier on the market, it disinfects up to 16 oz (0.5 L) of water in 48 seconds.

We've previously covered numerous water purification solutions for the developing world, with LifeStraw, Moringa tree seeds, or even banana peels being notable examples. The new SteriPEN device, however, is defined as hiking and camping equipment by its manufacturer, rather than as a life-saving tool.

The Freedom features a germicidal UV light which destroys 99.9 percent of bacteria, viruses and protozoa. Forty-eight seconds is enough for the Freedom to deal with half a liter of water, while a liter simply requires repeating this operation. A green light gauge indicates when it's safe to drink the water.

Canada's 4iiii Innovations has developed a Head Up Display for athletes that can be mounted on virtually all glasses thanks to included universal attachment points, so there's no need to stop wearing your favorite pair of sport sunglasses. Sportiiiis - pronounced "sport-eyes" - receives crucial performance data from any paired monitoring device via ANT+ wireless technology, compares actual performance with desired workout zone parameters and then feeds real-time indicators back to the user via colored LED lights and audio updates.

Manned version of X-37 space plane in the works?

When the Space Shuttle Atlantis touched down for the final time on July 21, 2011, it looked as if the notion of a manned spacecraft capable of going into orbit and then landing like a conventional airplane had been abandoned. The US government appears to be in favor of returning to Apollo-style space capsules with anything like the Shuttles being relegated to the private sector. But at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics' (AIAA) recent Space 2011 conference, Arthur Grantz, chief engineer of Space and Intelligence Systems' Experimental Systems Group at Boeing, delivered a paper indicating that the U.S. Air Force and Boeing are already on the way toward developing a manned Shuttle replacement based on the X-37B robot space plane.

Nano-Gyroscopes Will Let Cell Phones Navigate Indoors, Underground

Israeli researchers have created the tiniest-ever optical gyroscopes, as small as a grain of sand, but still maintaining the keen accuracy of their counterparts hundreds of times larger. Optical gyroscopes are generally used for navigation in airplanes, ships and satellites, in which they track movement without reference to external navigation points, by measuring the vehicle’s rotation rate and linear acceleration. This is called inertial navigation. It’s extremely accurate but, up until now, only possible in gyroscopes and weighing two to three pounds.

NASA Moves Ahead With Robotic Plane to Take Mars Exploration to the Skies

As a general rule, when NASA flies a scientific mission all the way to Mars, we expect that mission to last for a while. For instance, the Spirit and Opportunity rovers were slated to run for three months and are still operating 6 years later. But one NASA engineer wants to send a mission all the way to the Red Planet that would last just two hours once deployed: a rocket-powered, robotic airplane that screams over the Martian landscape at more than 450 miles per hour.

ARES (Aerial Regional-Scale Environmental Surveyor) has been on the back burner for a while now, and while it's not the first Mars plane dreamed up by NASA it is the first one that very well might see some flight time over the Martian frontier. Flying at about a mile above the surface, it would sample the environment over a large swath of area and collect measurements over rough, mountainous parts of the Martian landscape that are inaccessible by ground-based rovers and also hard to observe from orbiters.

The field of metamaterials has yielded devices that seem to come from science fiction--invisibility cloaks, highly absorbent coatings for solar cells and ultra-high-resolution microscope lenses. Metamaterials are precisely tailored to manipulate electromagnetic waves--including visible light, microwaves, and other parts of the spectrum--in ways that no natural materials can.

With few exceptions, however, these materials work in a very limited range of wavelengths of light, making them impractical--an invisibility cloak isn't very useful if it only redirects light of one color but can be readily seen under others. Now researchers at Caltech have shown that by mechanically stretching an optical filter made from a metamaterial, they can dynamically change which wavelength of infrared light it responds to.

 The key to Bigelow’s space station designs is inflatable habitats, which allow structures to be tightly packed for launching and then fill up in space. Two full-size mockups sit on the warehouse floor at the company’s Las Vegas factory. At left is the smaller Sundancer habitat, with room for three occupants. At right is the larger BA330 habitat for six people. (BA stands for Bigelow Aerospace; the 330 refers to the interior size – 330 cubic meters, or 11,700 cubic feet.)

Ciência Made in Portugal!


Investigadores da FCTUC integram Consórcio Europeu para criar Mão Robótica Inteligente 

Objectivo é que seja capaz de identificar e manipular todo tipo de objectos, como se de uma mão humana se tratasse.
Criar uma mão robótica inteligente com características antropomórficas - capaz de identificar e manipular todo tipo de objectos, como se de uma mão humana se tratasse -  é o objectivo final do ambicioso projecto europeu em curso,  HANDLE, que integra uma equipa de investigadores do Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica (ISR) da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra (FCTUC).

Uma cabeça duma estátua gigantesca, do Faraó Amenhotep III, descoberta recentemente:

CAIRO – Archaeologists have unearthed a massive red granite head of one of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs who ruled nearly 3,400 years ago, the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities announced Sunday.

The head of Amenhotep III, which alone is about the height of a person, was dug out of the ruins of the pharaoh’s mortuary temple in the southern city of Luxor.

The leader of the expedition that discovered the head described it as the best preserved sculpture of Amenhotep III’s face found to date.
