Vídeo mãos-livres! E Bricolage online, Super-Computador Pi, e Foguetões a Vinagre.

Como já passei pela trapalhada que é tentar filmar um How-To, ou Experiência, com uma mão na câmara e outra a fazer tudo, ou com a câmara presa s sem possibilidades me mover, ideializei esta solução, que mais não é que uma Mochila, onde se pôe uma caixa de Cartão, onde se fixa ou a câmara ou o seu tripé!
Simples e rápido, mas alguém tinha de o imaginar, primeiro...

I wanted to film some workbench videos, and always got frustrated with the results of fixing the camera, and the small tripod, to the workbench, and so. So I got to thinking, how about some kinda rig for an handheld camera, that would leave your hands free, AND still allowed you to move back and forth, and around the workbench? Here's what I came up with, you strap a backpack, with a cardboard box inside, and a block of styrofoam with slots for the tripod, plug the camera&tripod into it, and with some rubber band, Voila, hands-free videos!

Uma máquina de Jogos, Lulzbot, e Vídeo em Câmara Lenta

Feita em placa de madeira cortada numa Shopbot, eis algo para pôr na Sala de Jogos, e passar uns momentos bem-passados, feito com um Arduino a controlar, maravilha:

The skee ball machine is a wonderful thing. The simple experience of rolling a ball into a target is so freakishly satisfying that I used to play as much as I could as a kid at the local amusement park/mini-golf course. The sound of the rolling ball on the ramp, the pop as it launched in the air, and the bouncing as you hoped it would hit the 50 or even the 100.

So when the idea for doing a bigger project came up, I jumped at the chance to make a DIY version. I was amazingly lucky to get a lot of help from the folks at Because We Can who did the design and fabrication of the machine on a Shopbot.

With typical set-ups costing in excess of US$30,000, its use is often limited to those with mega-budgets. The Edgertronic high speed video camera aims to to change that, by offering pro specs with a (relatively) affordable price-tag.

Splinter Bike - a bicycle built ENTIRELY out of wood

Just over six months after making a joke bet in his front garden, Michael Thompson has lived up to his idle boast of being able to make anything out of wood. Unlike other bike designs where wood is just one of several materials used in the construction – like the duo from Audi and Renovo, which has a hardwood frame – every part of the Splinter Bike is made from either birch plywood, Lignum Vitae, Ekki or an old broom handle. Thompson's friend and accomplished triathlete, James Tully, now has the unenviable and certainly uncomfortable task of riding the 31 kg (68 pound) engineering marvel into the record books.

Thin-film flexible 'Paperphone' created

Researchers from the Human Media Lab at Canada's Queen's University have created a fully-functioning floppy E-Ink smartphone, which they also refer to as a paper computer. Like its thicker, rigid-bodied counterparts, the Paperphone can do things like making and receiving calls, storing e-books, and playing music. Unlike them, however, it conforms to the shape of its user's pocket or purse, and can even be operated through bending actions.

"This computer looks, feels and operates like a small sheet of interactive paper," said its creator, Roel Vertegaal, who is also the director of the Human Media Lab. "You interact with it by bending it into a cell phone, flipping the corner to turn pages, or writing on it with a pen."

TV in a Card brings video to brochures and greetings cards

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and a moving picture worth even more. Now a company in the UK is enticing businesses to go beyond the confines of eye-catching text, colorful graphics and product photos with TV in a Card.

The brainchild of Russell Lawley-Gibbs and Robert Green, a standard TV in a Card folder has A4 (297 x 210 mm / 11.7 x 8.3 inches) dimensions and opening the cover reveals a 4.3-inch, 320 x 240 resolution, 16:9 aspect LCD display powered by a custom board with built-in storage for about 30 minutes of video footage. There's an included speaker and headphone jack, and the Li-ion battery lasts about 1.5 hours before needing to be charged via the included USB port.

World records for QinetiQ Zephyr UAS now official

The three world records that QinetiQ applied for after its Zephyr High-Altitude Long-Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle completed a successful 14-day flight in July 2010, have been confirmed by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. The aircraft has now officially been ratified as staying in the air longer and achieving the highest altitude of any surveillance craft in its class, and setting the absolute duration record of 14 days and 21 minutes.

The ultra-lightweight carbon-fiber aircraft trounced the duration record set by Global Hawk in 2001 by a factor of 11, and managed to rise a good 5,000 feet (1,524 meters) higher (NASA's Helios Prototype, although in a different class, did get a tad higher in 2001). QinetiQ claims that the Zephyr could also help governments, companies and universities cut costs, saying that the vehicle can be produced at "one tenth of the cost of other unmanned aerial vehicles and one hundredth of the cost of a satellite."

In the crowded digital camera market, camera makers are continually pushing pixel counts higher and higher to attract consumers who have been led to believe that, the more pixels, the better the image. Proving that this is not necessarily the case, a team of researchers from Spain’s UJI (Universitat Jaume I) Optics Research Group (GROC) has developed a sensor of just one pixel with the ability to record high quality images.

The CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors at the heart of today’s digital cameras record the electrical signals generated via the photoelectric effect in a large number of image points, known as pixels. This allows the light falling on a specific point on the sensor to be converted to a digital value. The CCD was invented in 1969 at AT&T Bell Labs by Willard Boyle and George E. Smith, with the two eventually recognized for their achievements by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awarded them the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2009.

Can something be in two places at once? Can something be in two separate states at once? According to Einstein and the weird Twilight Zone rules of the quantum world the answer has always been a definite maybe.

The math supported the concept and scientific study of the quanta relies upon it being true.

Now, two scientists have proved it in what's being hailed by the journal Science as the scientific breakthrough of the year. Although a laudable sentiment, that praise might just be a bit of an understatement because what physicists Andrew Cleland and John Martinis from the University of California at Santa Barbara achieved is possibly the foundation for the technological applications of quantum theory-a veritable quantum revolution.
