DIY Power Tool Storage W/ Charging Station
SEB TECH DIY

Let's build this awesome power tool wall storage system. I had to organize my power tools in my shop, and decided to design and build this wall storage unit. This woodworking project is pretty simple to make, all made from plywood and 1 piece of pegboard. You can also add some stain and varnish for a final touch. I used imperial unit for this build but you can find all the metric dimensions below. Also, i added for FREE my SketchUp model, feel free to download it and modify it to yours needs. Happy Building ! :)

3D Printable Airsoft Gun
Engineer777

PURPOSE
When 3D printers started to dramatically drop in price and were thrust onto the commercial market, I was immediately hooked. This is every engineer's dream come true! The storm of cool printable products really hasn't developed as I expected however. Most people were, and still are, only printing little sculptures and vases. In terms of pushing this technology to its potential, we're not off to a great start! I came to the conclusion that it is not a lack of vision that is limiting the use of these desktop printers, but a lack of designs. People would print more awesome things if there were more awesome things to print. So I put two and two together and started designing this printable airsoft gun. It's the start of many designs I hope to produce for people who really want more than just a vase from their printers. I hope it will inspire you to get your creative mind in gear and contribute some awesome designs for a 3D printable future!

Build Your Own Storage Shed!
NathanaelScheffler

Hello Instructables! This is my entry into the Shopbot Contest. This Instructable will show you the steps to building your own shed. We decided that our shed would be for storage because we wanted to get some stuff out of the garage so we can use it as a shop. One of the challenges of building a shed in our backyard was that the ground was sloped in the area that we wanted to put it, so we had to find a way to get around that. Another was that we are building beside some well established trees, and we didn't want to harm their root structure. This is why we went with cinderblock and mortar rather than poured concrete.

https://www.instructables.com/id/Build-Your-Own-Storage-Shed/

Porreiro.

Open Source 3D Printed Clip-On Microscope For Smartphones
Anne Freier

This is an open source design for a smartphone camera microscope which can be customized, downloaded and 3D printed.
A team of researchers at RMIT University in Australia have developed a 3D printable clip-on microscope for smartphones. The design of the microscope has been shared on the Centre for Nanoscale BioPhotonics website.
Led by Anthony Orth, a research officer at the centre at RMIT University, the device has been developed to allow anyone, from students to medical staff to people at home, to take a closer look at things invisible to the naked eye.
The solution also means that the microscope can be used in situations where laboratory equipment may not be available. This could be hugely beneficial for application in less developed countries to help detect malaria or other blood borne parasites.
Orth explains in a post for The Conversation:
“What we’re hoping is that our design, or something like it, gets used for ultra simple, cheap and robust mobile phone based devices – be it for medical diagnostics in underserved areas such as the remote Australian outback and central Africa, or monitoring microorganism populations in local water sources.”
The researchers are also hoping that the final design can be optimized further to suit different people’s needs.

50 Things to Make with PVC Pipe

xxlauraxx
Here are 50 projects that'll inspire you to pick up some PVC pipe and get making.
You'll find everything from practical creations, like a drill press and baby gate, to more fanciful projects, like a net gun, dunk tank, and paintball mine.
Whether you're new to working with PVC or you use it all the time, trevormates' PVC 101 is worth checking out before starting your next build.

How To Build a Shed

darbinorvar
A shed is great addition to any property. This small garden shed measures 3 x 6 feet (a little less than 1 x 2 meters) so it's great to build if you don't have a lot of space, plus with some smart organization it can fit a lot of things!

D.I.Y Ultra Quiet Shop compressor from a refrigerator motor (compressor)

botzendesign
I needed to build a very quiet, higher capacity compressor for my Industrial Design Studio shop, since the one I have is quite loud and does not have the capacity that I was comfortable with for my urethane casting work.
In this Instructable I show you how to build a light duty compressor from parts you can buy on Ebay and or your local hardware store, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, or a scrap yard, using a refrigerator (fridge) motor compressor. This is not for using heavy power tools or spray painting a car. It's for blowing off parts, maybe airbrushing if you add an air/oil dryer to it or just need some air in your shop for various projects. Add your own optional Motörhead badges too. See the Video below for full details. It's a great companion to this Instructable tutorial.

Setting Up the Perfect Electronics Workplace
bjkayani
DIY is in my blood and for about 6 years now i have been doing such work. I have a keen interest in electronics work, prototyping, reusing and building. Working is only fun and calming if you have a good workplace with all you will need at arms length. My workplace is build by myself, improved over the years. I am going to share with you my workplace i use for most of my electronics, robotics and hobby work. I hope you will find some of these ideas inspiring for setting up your workplace.

Low Budget Knife-maker's Bench Grinder
antagonizer

I've been knife-making for quite a few years, and have always relied on a 1"x24" belt grinder, as well as my 4"x36" bench sander to get the job done. For the longest time, I've wanted to invest in a 2" belt grinder, to make the process easier, but could never justify the massive expense that goes into one. That's when I decided to build one for myself.

Arduino Attiny Programming Shield

webgeeks
An Attiny is a great alternative to the atmega328, it is for those projects that need few GPIO pins and need to be portable. But unlike the atmgea328 the attiny cannot plug into an Arduino board and be programmed. Another way would be to use a breadboard and an Arduino uno as ISP, but it would be really messy and it would be hard to program it this way multiple times.
A better way would be to program it on a shield and in today's instructable I'm going to show you how to build an attiny programming shield. The shield is easy to build and plugs on to an Arduino to program. So all you have to is plug the attiny on the IC Holder and you can program it.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Attiny-Programming-Shield/

Intro to Printed Circuit Boards

tedmyers

In this instructable, I'll go over what a printed circuit board is, where they are used, and the basics of how to make one yourself. So sit back, strap in, and enjoy learning about this very important and interesting method of making electronics!
Note: this is an introductory guide. I'm sure that there is a lot I did not cover, and if you find something you think I should mention in this guide, make sure to put it in a comment below!

Ultimate Workbench

mikeasaurus

The ultimate workbench is your go-to place when you need to get a job done. It's got a solid wood work surface, great lighting, a vice to hold down your work, and of course all the important tools at the ready in drawers underneath. Also, it's on casters. Which is really the best part about this workbench, the mobility it provides.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Ultimate-Workbench/

Setting Up a Workshop

woodskills

This Instructable on Setting Up a Workshop is brought to you by WoodSkills. For woodworking plans, woodworking courses, books and tutorials, please visit WoodSkills

The first step in setting up a workshop is to establish your needs. A suitable location for the workshop must be determined. Workshops can be located in any part of the home or garage, but ideally the basement or garage are very suitable locations. You should plan for future expansion prior to designing a workshop, since at some point in the future you will outgrow your present shop. Many factors are taken into consideration in designing a workshop. Storage, lighting, ventilation, power requirements, and noise reduction are important considerations.

The typical woodworking shop requires a lumber storage area, a workbench, tool storage, stationary machine area, and a finishing area. Ample space should be provided to move between the bench and walls, and to provide the necessary clearance to be able to use long, wide boards and panels.

[Pre-Order] Freaks3D - a reliable and affordable 3D printer. Take It Everywhere !

FREAKS3D PRINTER
As makers, we love 3D printing.3D printing makes our lives easier. We use it to print mechanical parts, tools, prototype our product, verify our assumptions or just make gadgets we love. It’s easy, fast and low cost.
We are amazed by 3D printing technology. However, the 3D printers on the market are far from satisfying. Most of them are bulky, not light-weight enough to be carried around, hassles to use, plus price ridiculously high. We want a reliable, affordable and portable 3D printer that we can take everywhere. Moreimportantly, it should be easy-to-use for general consumer crowds like artists/designers, educators, household wives, even children who are curious about creation.

2 Car All-Metal Workshop For 2 Grand

gizmologist

Overture: A Tale of Two Cards...
It began as a blueprint on an index card...
It began with a Lowe's credit card...
Based on a True Story,
Building Steel!
You say you'd love to have a two car garage, but you can't afford it? Or you need a workshop to build your dream airplane/car/boat/World Domination project? Here's a 400 square foot (20 X 20) all-metal shop for a little over two thousand dollars (A slap in the face to the bank!), built entirely from common parts available at any home improvement center.
This shop fits our budget because it's built without using a concrete $lab, expensive framing or siding. It's based on the old Quonset Hut design dating to World war II, although the construction method is different. The original Quonset Hut was a 20 by 48 foot hemicylinder (half cylinder); this one is slightly less than half the size of the original. Anybody that knows anything about structural design will tell you the dome is the strongest shape possible for a building - Buckminster Fuller made geodesic domes a household word. But domes are hard to build, and don't make the best use of floor space. The Quonset Hut is a "dome" in one dimension, while still maintaining a rectangular floor plan. It's much easier to build, because there is no need for tricky angles (as a geodesic dome requires) or compound curves, and it's still very sturdy.

Open source design lowers cost by 2/3rds of building Raspberry Pi Compute 1&2 powered cool stuff.
Update : We are adding to the design support for Bluetooth Low Energy
Update : We are adding an IR receiver to OpenPi
Update : Check out OEM and EmonCMS running on OpenPi read more
Update : Microsoft are using OpenPi on Tech Days read more

Wouldn’t it be great to build hardware at the speed or cost of software?
OpenPi is an open source project, and a neat alternative to the Rasberry Pi Compute development kit. The holistic approach for non-embedded engineers, guides people who love to write software, through the problematic stages of getting small scale products to market. On offer are reference PCB’s, a customisable ABS case, open-source design files and collaborative design support. When it’s as easy to get up and running as a games console, and affordable enough for cottage industry inventors to profit from, OpenPi is forging a new way of bringing cool ideas to the masses.

New! Streamlined Support for Photochemical Machining

Making with metal just got a whole lot easier.

We are thrilled to announce new streamlined support for Photochemical Machining. Previously, if you wanted to create something using Brass, Copper or Stainless Steel, you had to take an extra step to email us the extra details of your order.
Now you can upload PCM design files directly to your Personal Factory account. In addition, you can now upload and get a quote for metal parts along with Laser Cut & 3D Printed designs at the same time, all in one order.
How to make with Photochemical Machining (PCM):
  1. Prepare and save your vector design as a PDF using our Metal Machining Starter Kits.
  2. Upload your PDF to your Personal Factory account.
  3. Select your choice of metal materials and proceed to checkout as usual.
That’s it! You’re now on your way to receiving some awesome metal goodies in your mailbox. Please note: The design requirements for PCM are slightly different from laser cutting with other materials. You’ll want to be sure to read through our design guides before uploading your designs.

Complete workshop in a shelf
sachsie

Most Instructables projects require you to have some basic tools and a workshop available - unfortunately, most people do not have the space for these bare essentials available. Just like me.
My girlfriend and I live in a moderate sized apartment for some years now. We have got a spare room that offers sufficient room for our hobbies. Now we expect a baby and this room is assigned to it. As a consequence, I have to move all my tools in a tiny compartment of an IKEA shelf and have to find a new workspace too.
I approached this problem, by building a compact yet solid frame made of low-cost aluminum extrusions. It offers some very handy features:
  • storage space and organization for my tools
  • frame acts as a multi-purpose workbench. It offers:
    • a drill press
    • a router table
    • a bench vise
  • Concept is very flexible and may find further extensions.
Everything is designed to fit the size of the compartment. Total costs of this project are about 150 EUR.

UPDATE! Backpacking Gasifier Stove
Quark-

Hello, this is Quark- and I am here to show you how to make your own TLUD (Top Level Updraft gasifier stove), and you can look them up at http://www.build-a-gasifier.com/gasifier-wood-stov.... They are essentially a stove that burns the fuel not once, but twice. The base thermos holes allow air into the fuel, while the top holes allow preheated air down into the stove to basically burn the fires smoke. I recently learned about the design while looking up specification for the popular Biolite Campstove, a design which I sought to make. Only then did I learn that it was a gasifier, and the rest is history. They are often used in third world countries, due to the fact that they are incredibly cheap to manufacture and are 10x more efficient than just a plain fire. Because of the double-walled construction, it is easy to use a simple food thermos to make one of these beauties. Enough talking, Onward!
