Um Quadracóptero, por quase nada? E Policarbonato sem Dramas, Glowforge, Clickaloo, e Metais 3D à la carte!

Atenção, Malta do Mundo Lusófono!
Aproveitem.

E-Waste Quadcopter Lifts Your Spirits While Keeping Costs Down
Rich Bremer

The advancement of Quadcopters and their capabilities over the last few years has been amazing. Unfortunately, the price point to get into the sport with a decent size, non-toy, vehicle is still several hundred dollars. And what’s the fun with buying one when you can built it?!? Strapped for cash and feeling the same way, [Hans] over at the hackerspace Knackatory decided to build a quadcopter from e-waste.
The + shaped frame is made from lightweight plywood. It’s pretty obvious that the main rotors are PC Fans, 140mm in this case. Normally, these wouldn’t be able to create enough lift to get out of their own way except the on-board 24v Dewalt cordless tool battery bumps up the fan speed to 15,000 rpm. The one orange fan allows the operator to maintain a visual reference to which side of the ‘copter is forward.

Polycarbonate: Here's how to print it without warping, delamination, or an enclosure, with better-than-ABS results.
metacollin

You're probably a bit skeptical, the title sounds to good too be true. But benchy don't lie:

All of the parts in the attached photos were printed using the crappiest/cheapest polycarbonate filament I could find on a stock Prusa i3 Mk2s, the glue stick it came with, and some fairly unusual Slic3r settings.
If you aren't familiar with polycarbonate, it's what bullet proof glass is made out of. And it is notoriously difficult to print. To the point that the 'action shots' of eSun etc. shows, well, pretty crappy results in the 3D printed objects.
But I think that's because we're taking a fundamentally incorrect approach to printing PC. I'm getting excellent results. I see no reason to print ABS, PETG, or even nylon at this point - all polycarbonate, all the time. Er, I'm obviously more about practical prints that need strength, PC is not going to be a good replacement for PLA for aesthetic prints :).
I'm currently in the process of replacing all ABS parts on my printer with polycarbonate ones, now that I have a good printing process figured out. Let me tell you - aside from being comically strong (PC's nickname 'King of the Filaments' is well-earned), the dimensional accuracy is just killer. I remember having trouble getting a few nuts in their holes when assembling my Mk2s from a kit, the ABS tolerances just weren't that great. Nothing some percussive maintenance couldn't fix, but still.

Glowforge Launches the 3D Laser Printer That Made Crowdfunding History
Glowforge

For the first time ever, laser cutting and engraving technology has been freed from the factory and made easy and affordable for home and small business use.
“From the very start, we designed the Glowforge 3D laser printer to unlock people’s creativity,” said Dan Shapiro, CEO of Glowforge. “We set out to re-invent the idea of ‘homemade.’ What if you could print what you wanted, when you needed it? What if you could sketch a design, then turn it into something real you could use, without complicated software? What if your gifts were personal instead of purchased? What if it was easy to print your ideas a hundred times, so you could launch a business?”
Glowforge sets up in just minutes and works via Wi-Fi. No software is required, as it uses the web browser or app on any Mac, PC, tablet, and smartphone. Users can create and print from software including Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Autodesk 360, and Sketchup. They can also bypass software altogether – the onboard cameras can scan a drawing and transform it directly into a beautiful print on almost any material.

Digital Alloys raises $12.9M Series B from G20 Ventures, Boeing for metal 3D printing
Thomas

Boeing HorizonX says it’s investing in Digital Alloys, a Burlington, Mass.-based company developing high-speed, multi-metal additive manufacturing systems that produce 3D printed parts for aerospace and other production applications.
The $12.9 million Series B financing round was led by G20 Ventures, while Boeing HorizonX Ventures, Lincoln Electric, and Khosla Ventures also participated. Khosla Ventures is a prior investor which led Digital Alloys’ $5 million Series A round of funding in 2017.
Digital Alloys was founded in 2017 when it was spun out of New Valence Robotics. Digital Alloys developed a patented Joule Printing™ metal additive manufacturing technology, a radically simple new process that uses wire feedstock and high deposition rates to print hard metal parts faster. This new 3D-printing approach can rapidly combine multiple metals into each part, which enhances thermal, electrical, magnetic and mechanical properties. Digital Alloys says its technology avoids the cost and complexity of powder-based systems, and delivers higher resolution than other wire-based 3D-printing techniques.

Pinball!

Bestial!

PinBox 3000
Cardboard Teck Instantute
Customizable cardboard tabletop pinball game system and Gamechanger playboard expansions. Tilt the Future!
The excitement of pinball arrives to your tabletop, with a do-it-yourself maker spirit where users can design and craft their own game, or play one of our own designed games in our Gamechanger series. Made in the USA with recyclable materials.

Miter Saw WorkbenchTiger Island Handyman
Here you will find my new miter saw workbench. This is Shanty-2-Chic's design and it is great. I modified a few measurements to fit my saw and changed the compartments a little on the top. You can find the full instructions on Shanty-2-Chic's website.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Miter-Saw-Workbench/

How to Make a Propane Forge
MaxPower1977
In this Instructable I show you how to make a high efficiency propane forge. I have made a few forges so I have a good idea how they go together but I will give reference and credit to Ron Reil and his designs, that is where I learned how to build them over 12 years ago.
This forge can be used for knife making, blacksmithing, glass making or anything else you can think of that requires heating up stuff to a really hot temperature.
I have access to a welder so I was able to weld some parts together for this forge but if you don't have access or know how to weld, an option is you can braze the parts together or be creative and bolt things together.

How to Make Mini CNC 2D Plotter Using Scrap DVD Drive, L293d Motor Shield & Arduino
Sandeep_UNO

this a mini CNC 2D plotter made from old DVD drive and L293D motor shield very cheap but intresting

Brass Casting - Got Nice Ingot
DuralM
In this short article, if I can call notes about my humble experience an article :) I'd like to show how I casted 614 gram (1 lb. 5 oz.) round brass ingot. For many people who start melting and casting metals, it can be hard to melt brass, bronze, copper after for example, lead and aluminum. The main problem is high brass melting point.
That’s why I had to upgrade my blowpipe before melting and casting brass. It was a real challenge to exceed 900 °С (1652 °F).

Arduino Attiny Programming Shield

webgeeks
An Attiny is a great alternative to the atmega328, it is for those projects that need few GPIO pins and need to be portable. But unlike the atmgea328 the attiny cannot plug into an Arduino board and be programmed. Another way would be to use a breadboard and an Arduino uno as ISP, but it would be really messy and it would be hard to program it this way multiple times.
A better way would be to program it on a shield and in today's instructable I'm going to show you how to build an attiny programming shield. The shield is easy to build and plugs on to an Arduino to program. So all you have to is plug the attiny on the IC Holder and you can program it.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Attiny-Programming-Shield/

Intro to Printed Circuit Boards

tedmyers

In this instructable, I'll go over what a printed circuit board is, where they are used, and the basics of how to make one yourself. So sit back, strap in, and enjoy learning about this very important and interesting method of making electronics!
Note: this is an introductory guide. I'm sure that there is a lot I did not cover, and if you find something you think I should mention in this guide, make sure to put it in a comment below!

Ultimate Workbench

mikeasaurus

The ultimate workbench is your go-to place when you need to get a job done. It's got a solid wood work surface, great lighting, a vice to hold down your work, and of course all the important tools at the ready in drawers underneath. Also, it's on casters. Which is really the best part about this workbench, the mobility it provides.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Ultimate-Workbench/

Setting Up a Workshop

woodskills

This Instructable on Setting Up a Workshop is brought to you by WoodSkills. For woodworking plans, woodworking courses, books and tutorials, please visit WoodSkills

The first step in setting up a workshop is to establish your needs. A suitable location for the workshop must be determined. Workshops can be located in any part of the home or garage, but ideally the basement or garage are very suitable locations. You should plan for future expansion prior to designing a workshop, since at some point in the future you will outgrow your present shop. Many factors are taken into consideration in designing a workshop. Storage, lighting, ventilation, power requirements, and noise reduction are important considerations.

The typical woodworking shop requires a lumber storage area, a workbench, tool storage, stationary machine area, and a finishing area. Ample space should be provided to move between the bench and walls, and to provide the necessary clearance to be able to use long, wide boards and panels.

Book "Practical 3D"
There is a book about DAVID! Well, not just about DAVID, more about 3D scanning in general, presenting several scanning techniques. But DAVID has its own chapter in it.
The author, German journalist Florian Vierling, has previously written practical textbooks. Now he jumped into 3D scanning and wrote an exhaustive overview over 3D scanning techniques. The book is written in English and German (side by side), and it has lots of great pictures showing scanner hardware, setups, and results. At some points it goes into technical details, but it's well explained and always easy to understand.

A die filer is basically an upside-down jigsaw, which instead of holding a saw blade, holds a file. This machine will be able to do precise filing of intricate shapes without all the hard work of doing it by hand. This will greatly assist me as I find that I can only file or saw for a few minutes at a time now - isn't getting older a ßüĝĝêŕ. The unit I'm working on is a 35yr old 'Stanley Bridges' accessory, designed to attach to an electric drill, converting it to a jigsaw. Nowadays with jigsaws becoming cheaper, I have upgraded to an 'all-in-one' jigsaw & retired this one. The materials I plan to use are all scrap, hence no cost. The new file holding head is an old shaft (annealed), grub screw & belt. The pulley was machined from an old VCR part.

Use a DIY Proximity Sensor to Automate Your Haunted House

DIYHacksAndHowTos

The special effects in a haunted house need to be well timed. The best way to do this is to use sensors to detect where your guests are in the haunted house. So I am doing a series of projects that demonstrate a variety of sensors that you can use to automate your haunted house. Last week I showed how to make a simple DIY pressure plate switch.

This week, I am going to show you how to make a proximity sensor and how you can implement it to activate special effects.
