Algo de altamente Artesanal, cmo fazer um Ukelele, a partit dum Tronco!

Soprano Ukulele (From a Log!)

Rob Salmon

There was a glorious old apple tree in my garden. It was right in front of my kitchen window, blocking all of our light... but it would be sinful to cut down.

October 2014 - The tree was laden by a burdensome overload of apples. It was a barely noticeable, mildly windy day, and down came the tree! As, the clean up began, I cut the tree into manageable pieces. There was one piece, that for some reason I liked the look of, I kept it in my shed, and said, one day I will make something out of that.

Fast-forward to 2018. I had bought a cheap set of carving chisels, and started to look at this log, and imagine what fantastical shapes I could reveal, when I started to carve.

I had never made a musical instrument, at this point, though I have since had a number of adventures. As I threw my tape across the log, my mind began to wander. My daughters 4th Birthday was impending, and I had been considering getting her a Ukulele. A quick google to check the size of a soprano ukulele...it looked like there may be a ukulele hiding in the log.

It is almost impossible to write a "step by step" for this project, without volumes of text, as such the photos on each step do a lot of talking. Furthermore, this instructable is really about providing inspiration for others for future projects. The instructable is generally written in the first person, I have no doubt that there are better ways to do some of the steps. There may even be steps or advice that is just plain wrong! - Its really about inspiration ...and fun. For the most part (except for fretting!) this is simply good fun, with a happy biproduct of a working musical instrument!

Aqui, trata-se duma Fundição para a vossa Oficina, eléctrica, com um Lid Switch, e que vocês fazem em casa.

Diz que éde 120V, mas é por isso que há Transformadores 120/220...

120v Metal Foundry With Lid Switch

IJustLikeMakingThings

I have been wanting to build a metal foundry for some time but was torn between going electric or propane until I came across This Instructable that was electric but was only 120 volts. All the other builds I had seen had been 220 volt builds or used electric elements from stoves but I wanted to use120v and a heating coil. I also liked the ability to precisely control the temp because then I could also use it as a heat treater. I came across This Build which had a nice design and some great tips that I utilized in my design. I was able to use aspects of both of these designs to create my foundry.

I tried to design this to use tools that most makers should have or give you options for those with limited tools. At most, this can be made with a hacksaw, file, snips, and drill.

I wanted to include some safety measures to protect myself. I added a switch to cut the power if I lift the lid to prevent any chance of contacting the live heating coil wires. I also added a cover over the electronics, including the heating element wires. All other designs I saw had exposed wires and nothing preventing contact with the live heating coils.

Home Built 4x8ft CNC Plasma Metal Cutting System

Customfabricated

What is a CNC Plasma Cutting System? These are computer controlled machines that can cut through any electrically conductive material (steel / stainless / aluminum / copper). The machine takes a 2D computer generated sketch and translates it to a computer numerical control (CNC) system that is coupled with a Plasma Cutter. The Plasma Cutter uses an electrical arc and compressed air to cut through the conductive material.

I designed and built this system in my personal shop utilizing several off-the-shelf components along with some custom fabricated assemblies.

Check out the following steps for a detailed overview of my custom CNC Plasma build!

Plastic Brick Compressor

Rehaan33

Background

This is my IB HL Design Technology major project. It is a product that takes plastic waste and transforms it into bricks. This product was specifically designed for rural (developing areas) environments and as such, requires no electricity to operate. The production of plastic bricks in these communities can help to not only clean up their environment but also educate them on the plastic issue, provide sustainablebuildingmaterials as well as promote social entrepreneurship in these areas.

This is, unfortunately, a very specialized project as requires access to quite a few resources as you might notice when you read through this Instructable. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask them in the comments, and lastly, please vote for this instructable in the Plastics Contest if you enjoyed it!

[Project] 3D Printing Sticks for PLA Hot Glue GunTyler Koslow
Who needs a 3D printer when you have a hot glue gun? This Hackaday project from Donald Papp shows us how to use molten PLA filament to glue 3D printed objects together.
When 3D printing ambitiously sized projects, hot glue guns come in handy as a tool to join two separate things together. But what if you could bind these objects with the very same PLA filament that you used to 3D print in the first place?

Note, although Metal on the Microwave is a big NO-NO, removing the Kiln, at a certain temperature, and quckly pouring it onto a Mold...
That's feasable.

Derreter VIDRO no Micro-ondas!

MEWAHAHAHAHA!

DIY Microwave Kiln | Fuse Glass in Your MicrowaveShakeTheFuture
In this Instructable, we'll look into way to make a microwave kiln.
For those who don't know what is a microwave kiln, here is a quick introduction.
Microwave kiln is a kiln that you can put in your regular microwave oven.
It does not use a wire heating element or gas to heat up. Microwave kiln is covered with silicon carbide.
Silicon carbide absorbs microwaves and turns them into heat.
Microwave kilns are usually used to fuse glass.
You can turn broken glass into amazing jewelry.

Tempera-se Metal...
Porque não, PLA?
É o que este nosso amigo nos ensina a fazer:

Annealing PLA Prints for Strength – 2 Easy WaysMiroslav Sarcevic
Background Information
Annealing, when referring to metals, is when you heat up a material to make it less brittle and more pliant. In order for this physical change to occur, you have to heat the material to a sweet spot that’s cooler than its melting point but hotter than the temperature it recrystallizes at. You have to maintain this temperature for a while and then let it naturally cool down.
...
Annealing Plastic
Though this definition refers mostly to metals, a similar process can also be used with plastic. The technology behind plastic annealing is not new. It has been used for decades in the production of injection-molded plastic objects. Annealing is used to reduce internal stress in molded parts and make those parts stronger and less prone to warping.

EASY build Vacuum Casting machine system for Lost Wax / PLA Casting - DIY chamber & Pump : lwc #6
VegOilGuy

Vacuum casting machines are expensive. But can you make one? YES… here’s a easy, simple construction, low cost vacuum arrangement to assist with you lost wax or lost PLA casting. Many of the parts you may already have lying around and the rest are cheap as chips. Building a vacuum system has literally saved me thousands and just as importantly it’s dramatically improved the quality of my metal castings… beautiful, clear and precise details matching exactly the original wax pattern, with no pockets, no porosity and no sand. This really is a cheap and simple solution to better lost wax casting!

DIY 3D Printed Dremel CNC
Nikus

When I got my first 3D printer I was extremely happy with all the new possibilities to create things but after some time I noticed the limitations of 3D printing. Plastic is easy to melt, sometimes it's not mechanically resistant enough and most importantly sometimes doesn't look good. Don't take me wrong here, I love 3D printing and I like plastic (except plastic waste) but there are things that look, work or feel way better when made out of nonplastic material. Imagine all your furniture made out of plastic. Sometimes I prefer wood, when I need strength, metal (mostly aluminum) is a way to go. That's where CNC milling machines are used. Usually, the cost of such machine is really high, most of the hobbyist, small makers can't afford such expensive equipment. That's why the idea of building my own CNC machine sparked in my head.

E terminamos por hoje, com esta ideia Estratosférica, atenção, malta das Universidades, como fazerem os vossos próprios Balões Estratosféricos, para o bem da CIÊNCIA!

How to Make a Picoballoon
Jakub_Nagy

What is a picoballoon and why would I want to build it?! I hear you ask. Let me explain. You all probably know what a HAB (High Altitude Balloon) is. It's a bunch of weird electronics stuff connected to a balloon. There are soooo many tutorials regarding HABs here on Instructables.
BUT, and that's a very big BUT what they don't tell you most times in the tutorial is the cost of the filling gas. Now, you can build a decent HAB tracker under 50€, but if it weighs 200g (which is a pretty optimistic guess with the batteries, cameras, etc.) the helium to fill the balloon can cost you 200€ or more, which is just too much for many makers like me.
So, as you can guess, picoballoons solve this problem by just not being bulky and heavy. Picoballoon is just a word for a light HAB. Light, what do I mean by light? In general, picoballoons are lighter than 20g. Now, just imagine that a processor, transmitter, a PCB, GPS, antennas, a solar panel and also a battery with a mass same as a disposable coffee cup or a spoon. Isn't that just insane?

Lost PLA Casting - making & using a Casting Tree #pla4
VegOilGuy

Casting Trees are a great way to produce a large number of castings in one pour. But can this technique be used with a 3D Printer in Lost PLA? Yes! Jewellers and Ornamental Casters have been using this approach for years and I wanted to try it. In my last video I tried to make 5 pendants in one casting, but only 1 turned out okay. This time I try for twelve and almost nail it. With just a 3D printer and a little imagination, it's possible to make some incredibly detailed castings using the Lost PLA method.

E se querem meter-se nisso, sem usar Gás ou Carvão, podem usar este Método, que se pode usar em qualquer parte, sem causar alarme!

Zero Cost Aluminum Furnace (No Propane, No Glue / Epoxy, No Welding, Individually Replaceable Parts)
quickshadow_2

NOTE: THIS ITEM CAN BE USED TO MAKE CASTINGS AS GIFTS FOR ANY HOLIDAY OR OCCASION!
As seen from the picture and title this instructable is about how to make a zero cost aluminum furnace from salvaged items from your local scrapyard or around the house.
Please be advised that though this aluminum furnace can truly be made at zero cost, for some steps you may want to substitute a tiny bit of money for less hassle and trouble, throughout this instructable i shall be pointing out these steps and how you could do so.
BTW this aluminum furnace build can seriously smelt down a lot of aluminum, but takes a while to heat up, so ensure that you have a large store of scrap aluminum before using, for maximum efficiency.

Um Stepper não serve de nada, sem um Controlador, e cá está como o fazerem vocês mesmos, com este Projecto:

DIY Stepper Motor Controller
DIY KING 00

Remember those DC motors, all you need too do is to hook up the positive and negative leads to a battery and holla it starts running. But as we started doing more complex projects those DC motors doesn't seems to deliver what you need.... yes I mean efficiency, precision and above all torque without any gear reduction.
Well the story started as I planned to built a semi automatic drill press which can help you drill through objects like a usual drill press but with the help of a foot pedal so that you can hold the object with both your hands without the need of a helping hand. Long story short I need a motor that can move the drilling head up and down precisely and also offers a good amount of torque.
Failing to get all those from a simple DC motor I decided to use a stepper motor. Yes the one that has four wires and thats all I knew about them.So I in this instructables we are going to make a controller for these four wire stepper motors that enables us to control the speed and direction of the motor without using a micro controller.

CreativeTools Creates Most Unique, Innovative 3D Printable Universal Filament Holder Yet
Whitney Hipolite

...
The other day, I was printing out some toys for my son. I had to leave the house for two hours, and fully expected that when I returned I would have 3 little toys laying finished on my print bed. Unfortunately, when I returned to check on my prints, the printer had completely stopped printing halfway through. I couldn’t figure out what went wrong… until I looked at the filament and found that it had become tangle up upon itself, preventing its own flow to the extruder. The 3D printer had no other option but to shut down. This was completely my fault, as I had been provided with a sample of filament to try out, and because I was in a rush, I had just put the filament to the side, rather than on a spool. This allowed it to easily knot itself up and ultimately terminate my print job.

If you were to browse websites like Thingiverse, you would discover hundreds of filament spool holders, all of which are unique in their own right. However, none are as innovative, as comprehensive, and frankly quite as amazing as one which was just created by a company called CreativeTools, and its CEO Paulo Kiefe. Called the ‘Universal Stand-Alone Filament Spool Holder’, it is entirely 3D printable and its name simply does not do it justice.

Designing a Parametric "Print in Place" Hinged Container Using Autodesk Fusion 360
gzumwalt

The eight different size and color 3D printed "print in place" hinged containers appearing in the cover photograph of this Instructable do have one thing in common; they were all printed from a single Autodesk Fusion 360 model using "parametric modeling".
In a CAD environment, a parametric model is a model whose size and / or shape may be altered simply by changing dimensional values. In this model, I specified the dimensional values in the Autodesk Fusion 360 "Change Parameters" menu for the Length, Depth, Height, Thickness and Tolerance dimensions of a simple "print in place" hinged container. I then designed sketches for the base, lid and ball and socket hinges, and extruded the various components, using the dimensional values I entered. Thus to change the length of the container, I simply change the Length dimension, to change the depth, I change the Depth dimension and to change the height, I change the Height dimension. When any of the dimensional values on the Change Parameters menu are altered, Autodesk Fusion 360 rebuilds the container to the new dimensions, creating a new model ready for 3D printing, thanks to parametric modeling.

Making Aluminum Bronze: Melting Copper and Aluminum
matt.e.jenkins

Aluminium bronze is a type of bronze in which aluminium is the main alloying metal added to copper, in contrast to standard bronze (copper and tin) or brass (copper and zinc). A variety of aluminium bronzes of differing compositions have found industrial use, with most ranging from 5% to 11% aluminium by weight, the remaining mass being copper. The alloy I made consists of 11% aluminum and 89% copper. I personally made these just for the joy of creating and learning how to make alloys. If you have the resources to safely melt metal, then give this a try.

Magnetic adhesive tape for flexible attachments

If you want to attach something quickly and flexible to metal surfaces, magnetic adhesive tapes are very helpful. As if by magic they can attach objects to a fridge or metal shelf, for instance. You can remove them without residue whenever you like.
You can also stick the magnetic adhesive tape to the backside of decorative objects and make them your own magnets.
Manifold applications for the magnetic adhesive tape for private and business use:
  •  Hanging up of seasonal decoration, such as advent calendar, monthly calendar, etc.
  •  Mounting temporary signage, e.g. "We are on lunch break" for the store, office or practice

Moving Things (and Lasers!) Using Printed Circuit Boards
marciot

In this Instructable, I will share my experiments in making a set of PCB electromagnets for motion control.
For about a year, I have been experimenting with dual-axis pointing mirrors for lasers. Initially, I build a laser steering module out of solenoids. Then, I acquired some Texas Instruments TALP1000B modules from a scientific surplus outlet and experimented with those.
The Texas Instruments module had the advantage of being fantastically small, but it was very fragile and is no longer available for purchase. My DIY module had the advantage that had a clear (rather than gold) mirror, allowing it to work with violet lasers and phosphorescent screens. The DIY module was also robust and could be made from easily sourced parts. The downside was the solenoids made the module large and heavy and they could only provide a pulling force, complicating the driver circuit and limiting control.
