How To Print Resin-Like FDM Minis on $200+ 3D Printers (Printing The Game #3)
3D Printed Tabletop

In this video I show you how to get even your $200, stock FDM printer printing nearly layerless, detailed, miniatures in no time. No, these aren't meant to be a replacement to resin prints - but this is a great alternative until you can afford an SLA/DLP resin printer. I used a Creality Ender 3 to print the minis in this video, but the profile down below works with other printers in the Creality family as well (like the Ender 2 and CR10/CR10S). I also share the secrets of this profile for those who don't have a Creality printer so you can make your own profiles and/or adjustments to start getting better quality minis on your FDM printers in no time.

Spot Weld Plastic
zimitt

I'm a big fan of the plastic milk jugs. They're a strong, flexible, accessible, free material. There's hardly a jug that makes it to my recycle bin, without a gaping hole of some sort, in the side.
The only problem I had was the HDPE (high density polyethylene) plastic is, it's almost impossible to glue. Glue just won't stick.
I decided I wanted to develop a method to weld this plastic and make it even more versatile.
In his instructable, I'll show my process, successes and failures and I hope you'll find some tips for your own creativity.

How to CORRECTLY Solder a Copper Pipe
JulioC150

Hi in this article I’ll be thoroughly explaining how to solder copper pipe to get a nice leak-free joint. If you’re unfamiliar with soldering, you’ll be able to solder any diameter pipe after this video with ease and peace of mind.

Waterbot: Arduino Robot Boat
Slant Concepts

The Waterbot is a robotics arduino boat. He can be programmed from scratch using arduino tools or just built and contolled using the LittleBots app. It is currently Live on Kickstarter.
At Slant, for the past two years, we have been developing and manufacturing 3D printed arduino robotics kits. Up to this point we have created 5
When we started on the 6th bot, we knew that we wanted to go where no robot had gone before. So we chose water. No one in the entire Arduino community had created a robotics kit for the pool or the puddle. We fixed that.
Now STEM students and hobbyists have a programmable arduino platform for exploring small ponds or just being creative in the water. You can use this kit to learn basic robotics, flotation, hydrodynamics, electronics, and programming.

Single Cylinder Air Engine
gzumwalt
Before starting with this Instructable, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Instructables for featuring Single Cylinder Air Engine. I am indeed honored and humbled, again, many thanks.
Single Cylinder Air Engine runs on compressed air, a vacuum cleaner, a balloon, or even lung power. I've included three adapters in the design to interface with each. Please note the friction test video; your engine needs to pass this test before being successfully operated on balloon power.
The design incorporates two ports, one upper and one lower. When Single Cylinder Air Engine is viewed from the port side, "Wheel Piston.stl" rotates clockwise when pressure is applied to the upper port, and counter clockwise when a vacuum is applied to the upper port. As pressure or vacuum is applied to the upper port, the lower port functions as an exhaust (when pressure is applied) or an intake (when vacuum is applied). The opposite occurs when the lower port is used for pressure or vacuum.

Announcing Frosted Extreme Detail (or FXD), our highest resolution 3D printed plastic ever

Today we are excited to announce our newest material, Frosted Extreme Detail! It uses the same resin and printer as our popular material Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD), but it’s almost twice as detailed! Frosted Extreme Detail, or FXD for short, 3D prints using 16 micron layers (vs FUD’s 29 micron layers). This means 3D prints that have unprecedented detail and surface finish, sharper edges, less stepping, and stronger walls and wires. It’s perfect for the most demanding miniatures, figurines, and molds and masters for casting.

Design guidelines are the exact same as FUD, so all your existing FUD designs are printable and you can get started designing amazing new things right away! Pricing for this material is $5.00 startup and $5.99 per CC. The difference in price compared to FUD is that the thinner layers take longer to print and use more material.

RC car tracks in 1/10 scale
isaac_alaska

Earlier this fall, I was in the hobby shop to pick up some parts for my Sawback Gmade GM52000 and saw a set of what looked like tiny MatTracks to install on it. Not wanting to spend the $250 the hobby shop wanted for the used set, i thought to myself, "hey! I can make these!"
Since then, I've been through several dozen revisions, getting the fit and look just right, and trying to find all the necessary hardware, along with setting up my printer to handle the rubber material needed to print the tracks and other rubber parts from.
My original design used my own shape of frame, which improved upon other available designs by offering a longer ground contact patch and slightly higher axle lift, while still maintaining clearances to prevent rubbing. My latest design is actually a direct copy of the tracks used on Ken Block's F150 Raptor, "RaptorTrax". I searched the internet for a clear picture, and using measurements from the photo and specs from the Mattracks website, came up with this design, which looks surprisingly realistic.

Will This New Technology Make 3D Printers 25 Times Faster?

Matt Stultz

The technologies that we often talk about for 3D printing (FDM, SLA, SLS), have been around for a while and it’s rare that we see ground breaking processes that really shake things up. This week, a new company in the market Carbon 3D, has released a new process they refer to as Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP), that may be a game changer.

3d print the Titanfall Atlas Mech action figure on your own
In the past whatever we common people need from toys, accessories to engineering parts, we were running to the local stores if else we will buy through online ever since 3d printing got familiar things have changed and made even a common man with knowledge of 3d modeling or even without design knowledge they can print anything they want. In recent months we have seen many designers brought their designing to the real object through 3d printing.
Daniel Lilygreen from wales who is a designer has extensive knowledge in 3d modeling decided to 3d print the game character of the Atlas mech character from Titanfall game. Lilyfield want everyone to print his model in whatever size they need to print this Atlas. He printed this action figure which is 18 inches tall, with detailed exposure of the model.

Pilot Uses Boeing 737 To Build Flight Simulator In His Own Garage
Lara Lopes
You may remember the 747 that was converted into a hostel in Stockholm. Well now one guy has found a more personal use for an old plane. James Price, an american pilot and air traffic controller, decided to take home flight simulators to a new level and spent years transforming the nose section of a retired Boeing 737 into a perfect flight simulator in his own garage. The simulator consists of a fully functional cockpit and state of the art simulation software.

Metal Casting with Your 3D Printer
Matt Stultz

The ever-growing variety of 3D printing filaments is amazing — we can now print in strong, flexible, glowing, and dissolvable plastics — but sometimes plastic isn’t the right material for the job. Sometimes, you just need metal!

Although the big boys in the industrial world can directly 3D print metal parts with laser sintering machines, this technology hasn’t yet reached consumers. However, you can make your own metal parts at home with the help of your 3D printer and these easy-to-learn metal casting techniques.

A Met Intern Produced this Pretty Great 3D Printing Booklet for Beginner

Scott J Grunewald

The Met Museum’s MediaLab explores emerging technologies that could impact how we experience, view and create artwork. That includes having a space with 3D printers and multiple types of CAD and 3D modelling software that museum visitors can use and experience.
Met MediaLab intern Decho Pitukcharoen wanted to help visitors to the museum understand how 3D printing works, and help demystify the process of scanning an object, creating a 3D model and finally printing it out on a 3D printer. So he created a simple step by step guide to help the MediaLab visitors create their first 3D reproduction of some of the art pieces on display at the Met.

Uncia: $299! But not an FDM 3D Printer!
Nanjing, China
Are you familiar with the New Uncia DLP 3D Printer? That's because we have done a successful project on Indiegogo early this year(see here) to help people know more about DLP 3D printer, and to provide a more pleasant user experience, we have upgraded our printer in aspects of both hardware and software. Now it's time for every one and schools to get involved and enjoy!
We upgraded Uncia, because we never stop pursuing its perfection. However, improvements cost us more than what it used to be, and your contributions will help us manufacture this high quality product (using only the best components) in large quantities, therefore decreasing the cost of each individual unit. Only with a rather low price, 3D printers could truly be introduced into people's home to let every one experience the delight it brings. We think it cruel to see that people's creation  couldn't be realize, limited by the price of printers.
