MXD3D Launched the public beta of its cloud-based 3D Files healing and repairing service “MakePrintable.” The release includes integrations with Shapeways, Box, and Google Drive. In addition to future Plugins for Blender and Sketchup design softwares.
Most of 3D content is not printable and usually faces common printing errors when users try to print them. The root of the problem is that most 3D content is usually prepared for visual representation and not for 3D printing, leading to the most common 3D printing errors.
The process of healing a 3D model requires a lot of manual work and know how of the process involved for each 3D printer and the material used. The available healing and fixing solutions are very costly and only solve basic's related to 3D printing errors. They are also focused on industrial printing, and too costly for the Maker community.
MakePrintable’s platform is easy to use by 3D design experts and novice users.
MakePrintable addresses all common 3D errors like non-manifold, flipped faces, boundary edges, intersecting objects and solidity issues as well as more complicated issues such as wall thickness making 3D model repairing simpler, faster, automatic, and more enjoyable for all hobbyist and professionals.

3D printers are going mainstream, as more consumers warm up to and adopt the idea of 3D printing. The Micro, for example, is a Kickstarter project for a 3D printer for consumers. It was funded in mere minutes. But you can’t start printing once you get your printer. You will need to get the materials and more importantly the blueprint to printout your product.
If 3D modelling sounds difficult to you, fret not, the Web is filled with sites that offer users free 3D models to print on their printers free of charge. In this post, we’ve compiled 25 websites that you can use to search and download free STL models for 3D printers. Hopefully you will be able to find what you are looking for in these spots.

Synthesizing Conductive Nylon
MaddyMaxey
Nylon is a popular fiber used to make everything from parachuting material to tights. Maybe you've hear Nylon referenced as a popular thermoplastic or thread. Regardless of how you use it, Nylon is a versatile material that can be made in the lab.
In this experiment, I added some bells and whistles to Nylon by synthesizing fibers with graphite to make them conductive. They're a bit crumbly and highly resistive, but will register on a continuity test at about .2kohms resistance per centimeter.

Curiosity 120$ eWaste Educational 3D Printer

Please join our Facebook group in order to enable more and more people into the world of 3D prototyping: http://www.facebook.com/groups/infinity3d
Introduction & Vision
Co-developed with the Poly University of Hong Kong, the Curiosity is an easy-to-assemble educational 3D printer which offers a super low-cost platform for educational purposes. 3D printing closes the gap between an idea or inspiration and the first prototype and enables people of all ages and backgrounds to make the leap to become an inventor!
However, since most 3D printers still cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, the price has remained a huge barrier for most schools, parents, educators and kids. The Curiosity tries to close this gap! By up-cycling eWaste such as old DVD drives and PC Power Supplies, the Curiosity not only costs less than USD150 (we hope to reduce this to around 100USD once we can bring this project up to scale) but also educates children and adults about eWaste, environmental issues, recycling and up-cycling while learning everything about 3D printing!
Similar to what “one laptop per child” has done, I would like to open-source this technology and encourage educators around the world to adopt this platform and use it in their classrooms, i.e. “one 3D Printer per child”.
I could also imagine a Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaign, where people can buy a kit for themselves for let’s say $250 while sponsoring at the same time a child somewhere in the world who can’t afford it.

 A Empresa:

About
"Proto Labs was founded as The ProtoMold Company in 1999 by Larry Lukis, a successful entrepreneur and computer geek. Larry previously was co-founder of a successful $100 million company that wanted to design a better printer—and was floored at the time and money it took to get injection moulded parts. His answer was to develop an automated process for producing injection moulded parts in a fraction of the time and cost it had taken before. With a stated mission “to radically reduce the time it takes to get prototype injection moulded plastic parts” and “to make plastic injection moulding a practical option for products not requiring large quantities of parts” Protomold was off and running.
With a rapidly growing customer base demanding more, we pushed the technology envelope to produce bigger and more complex parts, introduced the Firstcut CNC machining service, opened up manufacturing facilities in Europe and Asia, and changed the name of the company to Proto Labs to reflect our growing capabilities. In 2012, we decided to take the company public and became one of the most successful initial public offerings of that year. As the world’s fastest provider of machined and moulded parts, we take pride in providing customers real parts really fast."

5 Impressive Robotics Projects You Don’t Want to Miss
Gareth Branwyn

Over the years, Make: has featured some amazing robotics projects. I decided to go back through the archives and find a few projects I thought were particularly special and worth making sure current Make: readers knew about. Here are five of my favorites.
You’ll notice that all of these robots, while being reasonably affordable and moderately difficultly to build, all have a lot of character designed into them. Amateur robot builder I-Wei Huang believes that building this kind of character into a robot is something of an evolutionary driver; make it cute, make it funny, make it characterful and people will want to interact with it more and read more sophistication into its behaviors (and will be more motivated to build their own). There may be something to this. I didn’t choose these five with that design aspect in mind. I only realized this commonality once I had put the list togethe

TOP 19 of the best free CAD software
Claire Chabaud
To make a 3D print, you need a 3D file, but to get it you don’t need to be an expert or have a significant budget; you can download 3D files from dedicated marketplaces or try to create it by yourself using 3D CAD & Modeling software.
Last week, we introduced you to various professional CAD software, but these might not be the best suited for you if you are an individual user or if you want to give 3D modeling a try. One of the main advantages of free modeling software is that they are often more intuitive than professional software, and are user-friendly for all experience levels.

DiResta: Package Design

Jimmy DiResta
I teach at the NYC School of Visual Arts, and each year I give a lesson in package construction design. This is the design of the box or package itself, not the graphics. There are several factors that must be decided when designing a package. Most importantly is the die cut line (AKA die line).
In this video, using Adobe Illustrator I lay out all the sides and rearrange them until I find the best arrangement of the six sides or the die line. There are several sizes of corrugation known as “flutes,” ranging from A (5mm) to G (0.5mm). For this project, I am using a 1.6mm-thick E-Flute board. If you use a corrugated board, chose the thickness scaled to your box. If you are making a smallish box, use a chip board. To achieve a perfect box, you may have to make several samples until you have the perfect die line for your project. Enjoy!

Arduino Watch Sport

Alexis Ospitia
In today's technology, especially electronics have come a long way, to the point that today can make projects a few years ago were very complicated to implement, thanks to these technological advances are now able to design and implement our houses projects.
and through this article I come to show you my new project, which consists of a wristwatch, so I called Arduino Watch Sport

LOL

Pipe-Handle Manual Chainsaw
blksheep

This Instructable was inspired by member CobyUnger's Manual Chainsaw. He did a great job creating a versatile tool that fits right in your pocket. My only hesitation with creating his version is that I tend to abuse my tools and I had concerns that the fabric strap would become frayed and fall apart over time. So I modified the design a bit to put on some pipe handles.

Maker's Marks!

Dica do nosso amigo Eddy Ridder:

Makers' Marks: Physical Markup for Designing and Fabricating Functional Objects
Berkeley Institute of Design

To fabricate functional objects, designers create assemblies combining existing parts (e.g., mechanical hinges, electronic components) with custom-designed geometry (e.g., enclosures). Modeling complex assemblies is outside the reach of the growing number of novice “makers” with access to digital fabrication tools. We aim to allow makers to design and 3D print functional mechanical and electronic assemblies. Based on a formative exploration, we created Makers’ Marks, a system based on physically authoring assemblies with sculpting materials and annotation stickers. Makers physically sculpt the shape of an object and attach stickers to place existing parts or high-level features (such as parting lines). Our tool extracts the 3D pose of these annotations from a scan of the design, then synthesizes the geometry needed to support integrating desired parts using a library of clearance and mount- ing constraints. The resulting designs can then be easily 3D printed and assembled.

Magnets in Education
A few of us here at K&J Magnetics recently had the opportunity to present magnetic topics in the classroom.  One has a daughter in elementary school working on her first exposure to magnetism and electronic circuits in science class.  Another had an invitation from a friend who's a teacher.  It was a huge amount of fun playing show-and-tell with magnets to excited kids!
We've known that magnets are fun for years.  If there's one thing we learned in our recent school visits, it's that magnets in a classroom setting can be seriously engaging.  Adding interactive and hands-on stuff to science class really gets students involved and excited.
This article provides a brief description for the many magnetic demonstrations we presented.  Regular readers of the K&J blog might recognize a number of demos from earlier articles.  We thought listing them all together here might help answer some common questions we receive:
What kind of science experiments can I do with magnets?
My kid wants to use magnets in their science fair / project. What should they use?
What magnets are good for the classroom?
For some of these ideas, we use some fairly powerful magnets for good effect.  Please use magnets carefully and responsibly.  Some of these experiments are best conducted with adult supervision.

This Glider Design by Alexander Shevchenko Costs Less to RepairJen Chae Ukrainian designer Alexander Shevchenko’s Delta glider design keeps the frugal in mind. Mostly made of laminated foam, this sailplane costs significantly less to fix or replace compared to others in the market. The design is composed of thoroughly researched materials keeping the theme of efficiency in mind. The resulting effect delivers similar quality while promising less repair costs.

WhiteClouds Expands to Open World’s Largest 3d Printing Multi-Color Lab
Bobby Lin
The Utah-based 3d design and printing company WhiteClouds recently announced its plan to expand and build a massive 60,000 square foot facility and 14 new multi-colored 3d printers. This massive project is the result of the company’s goal to become the pioneer and leading company hubs for 3d printing.
This 3d printing multi-color lab doubles the production of the company’s 3d printing capacity, making it the world’s largest 3d printing multi-color lab.
WhiteClouds also hired COO Joey Skinner and CRO Braden Ellis to lead the company’s strategic partnership alliance to produce growth and revenues.

About US

Mylocal3DPrinting is proud to introduce itself as an organization that helps common people gain easy access to world class 3D printing and designing services at a crowdsourced price.
Our service connects individual designers and their prospective buyers with competitive 3D printing services creating a win –win situation for all. Unlike other web-based 3D printing services, we have incorporated the concept of crowdsourced designing and printing with a unique online platform that allows buyers to visualize the product throughout the design process. Our objective is to help you get the best design and price for your custom made 3D printed products by connecting you to one central market place.
Also known as additive manufacturing (AM), 3D printing refers to the creation of three dimensional objects of any shape from electronic data sources or 3D models. Objects can be created from a number of different materials including plastic, stainless steel or even precious metals. At present, 3D printing has a wide range of applications in specialized manufacturing, rapid prototyping, data visualization, and product development. Over the years, crowdsourcing has proven to be a great idea to get 3D printing projects off the ground. Crowdsourcing solicits ideas from an online community, looking for the best content, ideas, and services. This not only lowers the cost of 3D printing, but also creates an efficient platform for collaborative manufacturing.

Polycarbonate powered crossbow!

Just to show, that thing will NEVER brake! And it stores energy, as you can see, while being a lot easier to cut and machine than steel.

Faking a Color 3d Printmkoehle
This Instructable will show you how to fake the output of a color 3d printer using paper, a printer, and a laser cutter (or some similar method of cutting paper). The process is similar to others that stack slices to form a model. The difference is we will also take a slice of a 2d image (one line of pixels) and print this to the paper before cutting.
Here’s the general work flow:
Create a projection image (an image you will project onto the model)
Slice the model along the z axis at a given spacing
Slice the projection image along the z axis – this means taking one row of pixels and stretching it over the paper
Print the slice images to paper
Cut the slices on the corresponding print
Assemble the slices to form the physical model

Bondic.
Com C, no fim;

About
Bondic® - The World’s First Liquid Plastic Welder.
How many times has glue let us down? Fingers stuck together, broken toys that we just can’t fix, having to throw out our stuff because gluing it only made it worse. Not to mention just when we need glue most we discover our 3-month-old bottle is as dry as the Sahara Desert on a hot day.
Bondic® is the only product that works where glue fails. It’s liquid plastic that only hardens when you need it to. YES it stays liquid and won’t dry out like those crazy glues on the market today. Bondic® is a very simple 4-step process (clean, fill, cure and shape) to fix almost anything, saving countless precious items from ending up in the trash before their time.
Never again will we be at the mercy of sticky, messy and exasperating adhesives that do anything BUT what we need them to do. We live in a plastic and disposable world today, so much so that Ken and Barbie almost look human in comparison. Our mission is to save expensive items and hard earned money by not having to replace them every year or even every month! Oh and while we’re at it, contribute to shrinking a landfill or two.

Protopiper: Physically Sketching Room-Sized Objects at Actual Scale

Harshit Agrawal, Udayan Umapathi, Robert Kovacs, Frohnhofen Johannes, Hsiang-Ting Chen, Stefanie Mueller, Patrick Baudisch

Protopiper is a computer aided, hand-held fabrication device that allows users to sketch room-sized objects at actual scale. The key idea behind protopiper is that it forms adhesive tape into tubes as its main building material, rather than extruded plastic or photopolymer lines. Since the resulting tubes are hollow they offer excellent strength-to-weight ratio, thus scale well to large structures.

Transforming Workbench & Storage
polyglot45
My girlfriend is an artist and has been infinitely patient with the fact that our previous living situations have prevented her from having a nice and functional studio space at home. We bought a house earlier this year which meant that we were no longer living under the constraints of a tenant-landlord-no-major-alterations relationship and we were free to do as we liked. She was away for about a month this summer, during which time I overhauled the room we had designated as her studio space. Though she knew it was happening and had given me some parameters, I was allowed considerable creative license in the renovation. Buuuut, old habits die hard and I tackled the redesign with the knowledge that we will likely move SOMEday and maybe a home studio might not be a selling point for future buyers and maybe she'd like it so much she would like to take it with us. So I set about to create something big and amazing yet still portable. (In all honesty, this project will leave considerably fewer holes in the walls than most other shelves I've installed in apartments....so have no fear!)

Acrylic Cheat Sheet: How to Cut, Glue, Bend, and More

Jordan Bunker
Acrylic is a wonderful plastic that can be used for all sorts of different projects. It comes in both transparent and colored options, and can be machined, laser cut, or heated and bent into almost any shape.
