Vejam:

Pegasus Touch brings lasers to desktop 3D printing
David Szondy

Whether it’s light shows or interplanetary communications, lasers just seem to make things better. And that’s apparently part of the thinking behind Las Vegas-based Full Spectrum Lasers’ (FLS) Pegasus Touch; a desktop 3D printer that uses lasers to print objects faster and in finer detail than most other printers in its price range. Available for as little as US$2,000 via a Kickstarter campaign, its performance is claimed to be comparable to machines costing 50 times more.

Electric Sand or Salt Spreader for your Truck or Tractor from Junk

This Instructable will guide you through the creation of an electric spreader that can help you coat icy surfaces with sand or salt with the flip of a switch. No more soup can, bucket, and falling on your butt! A hopper is constructed from a 5 gallon bucket with a hole in the bottom. Sand exits the big hole through a funnel made from a 2 liter bottle. The sand then piles into a PVC pipe tee. A cordless drill is used to spin the PVC pipe tee. When the pipe tee spins around, centrifugal force pulls the sand out of the tee and slings it everywhere.

Drone It Yourself turns random objects into RC quadrotors

James Holloway

If, like me, you've always felt that your books, record collection and years' of otherwise accumulated matter was lacking flight capability, you might be interested in Jasper van Loenen's Drone It Yourself project which turns more or less anything into a quadrotor drone with addition of a few motors and a control unit.
According to van Loenen, all the plastic parts, which include the clamps to attach the motors, can be 3D printed in ABS, with the appropriate files made available on van Loenen's website. The clamps used may not work with more unusually shaped objects, but there's nothing stopping anyone from designing their own custom variants.

Pi Lite white - Bright white LED display for Raspberry Pi

Ciseco

What's a Pi LITE?

We keep hearing, "I've got a Raspberry Pi, but done nothing with it yet" so what we thought was "what can we make that requires no soldering, is plug and play, fun, physical and practical."
The Jimmy Rogers LOL shield for the Arduino is a great bit of kit and where we took our inspiration from. It makes a Raspberry Pi "do something" that normal computers just don't. After all if we'd just have wanted dull computers we'd not have bought a Pi right?
What to do with it?
  • Your twitter feed in real time (see code below)
  • "Get off my chuff" message the car hanging off your bumper!
  • Some games are possible such as pong, Tetris etc
  • Status screens/icons from a distance
  • Daylight visible where LCD cant be seen
  • Bargraphs, VU meter and other dashboard type apps
  • And so much more

3D Printed Camera : OpenReflex

Bozardeux

The OpenrReflex, a research about desktop 3D printing, open design and hacking.
100% Open-Source ! Fell free to copy, understand, improve then share again !

The OpenReflex is an Open-Source analog camera with a mirror Viewfinder and an awesome finger activated mechanic shutter (running ~ 1/60°s). What's more, it's compatible with any photographic lens with custom mount ring.
All the pieces easily printable on an recent RepRap-like ABS 3D-printer without using support material ! Everything should print in less than 15h and anyone should be able to assemble it within 1h.
All parts are separate ( Film receiver, Shutter and Viewfinder ) to simplify builds and modifications.
The source files are available under the CreativeCommon By-Sa license, fell free to modify them if you want a new feature, and don't forget to share your improvements on the web ;)

Medusa dá-vos asas...

Creativity in CAD: Free software supports leather venture

MEDUSA4 Personal: great for new businesses
MEDUSA4 Personal: great for new businesses

Bernhard Kreuzer is a leather goods designer, applying his mechanical engineering skills to turn a hobby into a new business venture – supported by MEDUSA4 Personal and the eSERVICES portal for commercial users.

Cambridge, UK and Pittsford, NY – 8 May 2013: Bernard Kreuzer, former army captain and leather goods designer, studied mechanical engineering. He discovered CAD Schroer’s free mechanical design software, MEDUSA4 Personal, about two years ago. Today he uses it to design unique leather goods, with patents pending.

Custom leather

When Bernhard Kreuzer attended a MEDUSA4 training course, supported by a government skills scheme, he was keen to share his story with CAD Schroer staff.

A mechanical engineer by trade, he started using MEDUSA4 Personal to design high quality, made-to-measure leather goods, including belts, handbags, custom sheaths for knives, mobile phone cases, and archery accessories. Initially sales came through word of mouth, but as orders increased, he needed to create more accurate designs to waste less material and work more efficiently.

Trying my hand at: Mold Making and Casting with Silicone RTV [Pittsburgh Tech Shop]

thisisanexparrot
Today at the Pittsburgh Tech Shop, I took a class in mold making and casting. This is a great technique for making multiple copies of a piece out of resin. It's used in sculpting, prop making, special effects makeup, and many more applications. This Instructable is the documentation of the class in which I found a piece to copy from the part bins available at the TechShop, cast a mold out of silicone, and filled the mold with resin.

I will discuss the process of casting beginning with choosing a piece to cast, making the mold, and casting a piece from the mold.

More information about the Pittsburgh TechShop can be found at http://techshop.ws/

I made it at TechShop!

Laser Cut MultiWii based quadcopter

dylanfm

This is is the second version of a small quad copter that I designed and built. It is designed so that the only power tool required to build it is a laser cutter.

You can get multicopter frames for cheap from a number of sources, but I wanted something that was more customizable and hackable. The cost to build the actual frame by itself for this quad (including glue, etc) is only about $50. The rest of the costs are probably similar to what it would cost to build a quadcopter using a commercially available frame kit. I also believe it to be more sturdy and easier/cheaper to repair than a lot of quad frames on the market. While learning to fly with version 1 of this quad, I crashed it repeatedly, several times into a tree. After several hard crashes I did break one of the motor mounts, but a little bit of wood glue and some clamps and it worked as good as new.

Impressoras 3D a 500 Dólares!

Open Design 3D Printed Headphones

Teague Labs have created these fully functioning headphones, named simply 13:30 after the time it takes to print them (13 hours and 30 minutes).
From the Teague Labs website:
With 3D printers becoming more accessible we decided to have a think around the concept “life in beta” as a future scenario. What if printed prototypes could become actual products? Meaning, once off the print bed an object could be assembled without any tools and be made functional by readily attainable components. I decided to stress test the premise with the challenge of making electronically simple yet functionally complex headphones.
