Build a Plasma Cutter Pantograph!Wildman Tech
I need a way to make clean and repeatable cuts with my plasma cutter. A CNC is a great answer that I don't have space for. Here is a compact and inexpensive solution to the problem. It is more accurately named a pattern follower because you make plywood patterns that it can cut over and over again.

DIY Hydraulic Benchtop Press
kess_gr
Dimensions 750x470x320mm including the truss and the footings.
The main frame with the truss can handle a 6T jack mounded at the upper side of frame with no problems of distortions or cracks. If you plan to use a 3T jack, the truss can be skipped.
It is a tool, that can handle vary tasks, according the dies that we have or that we will made.
It is a circle without end.
What isHydraulic Press
A Hydraulic Press is a machine press using a hydraulic cylinder to generate a compressive force. It uses the hydraulic equivalent of a mechanical lever, and was also known as a Bramah press after the inventor, Joseph Bramah, of England. He invented and was issued a patent on this press in 1795. As Bramah (who is also known for his development of the flush toilet) installed toilets, he studied the existing literature on the motion of fluids and put this knowledge into the development of the press.

Simple Vise Modifications to Bend MetalsThe other Finnish guy
Hi
This is my instructable about simple modifications to vise, to make tidy bends to metals.
There is multiple methods and attachments for different bending tasks, i wanted to find a solution that uses mostly actual vise itself.
I have been building a new kind of vise, these modifications are kind of prototypes that I wanted to test before actual building. Decided to share these first, because its obvious that everyone doesn't want to build the whole vise by them self.
I used my diy vise as a base, but these can be used with commercial vises too.

Minimalist 3D Printed Fume Extractorrdmmkr in
Breathing solder fumes can cause serious health problems, a fume extractor is a cheap and easy way to minimize the inhalation of such fumes.
In this instructable I will show you how I designed and built this minimalist mostly 3D printed fume extractor; My goal was to make something functional, aesthetically appealing, inexpensive, compact and simple.
An important feature of this project is the removable filter cartridge that makes changing the activated carbon filter effortless and allows you to use the filters of the Hakko 491, 493, FA-400 fume extractors which are easy to find.

Boa ideia!

JRLS 1000 DIY SLS-3D-PRINTERVulcaman
In this Instructable I want to show you how to build a SLS 3D-Printer with a lot of features. I am an 18 years old guy from Germany who wants to understand how SLS-3D-Printers work in depth. I got the inspiration for this project after I saw a laser sintered object from a professionell SLS-machine. It was so detailed and so perfect. However a professionell SLS-machine is very expensive. So I designed, built and tested my own SLS-3D-Printer. It took me three month to develop the printer and I was quite surprised how well it worked. Now I will tell you some spects about the printer

Advanced Plasma Arc Speaker

Proto G
Yes, what you hear in that video is only coming from the scorching hot, high voltage plasma arc. It is vibrating the surrounding air similar to a regular speaker but it does so but sending electrons across the spark gap at the same frequency of the music. It's a great conversation starter to keep in your office!
Plasma speakers make amazing tweeters because they can reproduce high frequency sounds better than regular speakers due to the lack of a heavy diaphragm to move. From an audiophiles perspective, plasma tweeters are as good as it gets for high frequency sounds. For low frequency sounds, larger speakers perform much better.

DIY PVC survival compound crossbowthefrenchmaker
For this survival ready contest, I will make a compound crossbow in PVC pipe. Why a crossbow? Because when I think to survival equipment present since the beginning of the series The Walking Dead, I see the Daryl's crossbow. And I find it really cool. Silent and precise it is also a good melee weapon if necessary. To make this crossbow, I will use common materials that can be found everywhere, and does not require any electric tools, except to save time, in order to stay in the survival mind.Ready? Watch out for the walkers!Warning! This is not a toy, be careful. Never aim directly at a person or animal.Only walkers.

Boa.

TinyDice: Professional PCBs at home

Emiliano Valencia
What is the Tiny Dice?
Simply put, TinyDice is just an electronic, Arduino compatible LED die that looks quite neat.
In reality, this project was my attempt at doing things right; making an SMD circuit, a professional quality PCB, a good PCB design, and an effective code, that allows for a very energy efficient project (when not in use, the whole thing consumes less than 0.1 micro amps, yes, less than 1 ten-millionth of an amp!).
What will you learn here?
You will learn how to make high quality, SMD PCBs, from design to use, which consists in; Designing the board, transferring the design into copper clad, etching the copper clad, adding a soldermask, making a solder paste stencil, home reflow soldering, and programming a standalone board. Additionally, you will learn to use and program MSP430 value line microcontrollers from Texas instruments, these can be programmed like an Arduino, but they are very cheap and come in many shapes and sizes, an ideal tool for the average hacker to be able to use.
What will you obtain?
Appart from an incredible skill set, you will obtain a tiny gadget that displays your skills, plus it is a neat little piece of electronics to have and show around. On top of that, you will have a 6 sided die that will help you make decisions, and even win games )you could modify the code to make it be an unfair dice and use it at your favour).
This Instructable is on the Circuits contest, so if you consider it worth it, please vote for it!

How to make a Van De Graaff generator

CCX191
I've built this Van De Graaff generator for a science coursework and it works pretty well considering it being built in a rush (needa hit that deadline man). With it, I managed to achieve a 1.5cm spark, a happy physics teacher and full marks for my coursework :D.
All the parts used are easy to find in shops and really cheap. Don't be too intimidated by the looks of it, its not that hard, improvising is key.
It's my first instructables so bear with me and I welcome any suggestions and comments.
All the best!- CCX

Angle Divider for Perfect Miters No 2

Phil B
In January 2016 I did an Instructable on my copy of a Stanley No 30 Angle Divider. This is another version of the Stanley No 30 Angle Divider that looks a little more like the original from 1903. (Search your favorite browser for Stanley No 30 Angle Divider to see images of the original version with a wooden handle.)
But, the chief advantage of this Instructable is a jig for drilling the center pivot hole in the body. That jig makes dead on accuracy almost foolproof. However, this version is also more work with more steps. But, some shortcuts could be taken for those who do not have access to a welder or want to avoid the extra work.
The photo shows this version of the Angle Divider in use to set a power miter saw. The other member of the miter would be set and cut by turning the Angle Divider 180 degrees and adjusting the saw to the other half of the fence. The fence on this saw had a wavy profile. I needed to catch more of the blade because I was cutting some tall baseboard molding, so I added 3/4 inch plywood to the face of the fence. That brought the work out toward the operator and caught more blade. It also gave a flat top surface for the Angle Divider, which resulted in easier and more accurate setting of the saw

High Precision Cardboard CNC Drawing Machine

Dan Chen

After achieving decent accuracy with the 2-Axis Cardboard CNC machine, it gave me the confidence to make the 3-Axis CNC machine with the cardboard. Here are some of my design considerations when designing this machine.
No Glue
Modular design elements / cut outs
Reconfigurable, you can make the bed/stage larger or smaller
Press fit construction
You can use different materials other than cardboard by changing the press fit slots based on the thickness of the material.
Easy to disassemble and reassemble. Easy to repair

A Sucata!

MISSION

In the last years, several wonderful educational kits appeared. We’re fans of some of them. But they all have in common a price that isn’t affordable for needy communities’ educational.
These kits costs from US$ 100 – US$ 300. To a school values are usually over US$ 2000. With import and costs and taxes, price grows even further. In Brazilian stores, it isn’t uncommon to find toys marked four or five times its original price.
And that’s why we say that RUTE is not competing with these kits. For those who cannot afford, we’re not a cheaper and simpler option, we are the only option.
Another important feature is that several of the existing kits aren’t fully open hardware, and doesn’t allow replications without the payment of royalties or licenses. We believe that was necessary to do something simpler, that didn’t require advanced manufacturing techniques. Being rudimentary helps us in 4 points:
1 Lower developing costs, because it doesn’t need molds for plastic injection, printed circuit boards or automated manufacturing.
2 People in distant regions can produce their own kits, using tools and components that are easy to find.
3 Possibility of using electronic scrap, which makes the kit even cheaper and nature thanks.
4 Makes understanding electronics easier. To a child, an integrated circuit board is much harder to understand then a button soldered in a connector.

Simple and Durable Hydroxy Gas Generator

Austin Noble
This instructable is a description of how I made my fifth hydroxy gas generator. Hydroxy gas has been an evolving science for me as I have learned what works, and what doesn't, what you need on a generator, and what you really don't, and that you shouldn't ignite a milk jug full of this stuff at 10:00 PM in the middle of your neighborhood, or you will have some explaining to do. My goal with this generator was to make a device that quickly separates water into hydrogen and oxygen gasses, can be made without advanced tools and is as tough as nails, so that I can throw this thing in my trunk and set it up at a friends house without worrying about spilling caustic fluid, or starting anything on fire. So let's get started.

Plasma Cutter From an Arc Lighter

NightHawkInLight
I recently purchased a few cheap arc lighters on ebay with various projects in mind for them. I hadn't thought of a plasma cutter until I had one in my own hands and saw how it could bore a hole through thin materials that get in the way of the arc. There's an issue with trying to cut things with an arc in exposed air as the material will typically burst into flame. In this project I'll show how to integrate the arc lighter with a cutting head that acts as both a shield against air flow as well as a heat sink to prevent the arc from heating materials to their carbonation point beyond the edges of the cut

Car Wheel Bicycle - The Learn To Weld Project

Mr-Mash
This whole thing started off with me finding rusty holes in my car and I figured for the cost of paying someone to fix it I could buy a welder and do it myself, seems logical, right?
I was speaking to a friend about needing to learn how to weld and he said why not build a bike (we originally met while I was working in a bike shop and he came in looking for parts for a chopper he was building) he lent me a couple of books by Atomic Zombie, who you should check out, that dude builds some cool stuff.
His website and forum can be found at www.atomiczombie.com
After toying with the idea for a while it seemed like a good one but I was concerned that it wouldn't come out right so it was decided that I would build something a little silly, so, hence the car wheel bicycle was born.

How to Make Your own Plasma Cutter....Plasanator
Check out new video of the Plasanator on utube.com
This Ebook is designed for Guys and Gals who like to create tools and machinery.
I hope my Ebook gives you hope that no matter how hard a project may seem, keep plugging away until you finish and you will succeed.
I spent 3 years putting this together and now finally all my hard work and research has paid off.
I studied diagrams from commercial venders, but to no luck. They tend to leave a lot out – on purpose - so it’s hard to reproduce their design. I’ve see different attempts at people making their own on You Tube and other sites, but what a death trap. Messy water resistors and wiring like a darn Christmas tree.
So I began reading books and articles on their workings and took my home schooled-knowledge of electronics to build my own plasma cutter. I was determined; failure was not an option.
I started by collecting parts from old microwaves, stoves, water heaters, air conditioners, car parts and more in the hopes of creating a low budget way to create a plasma cutter for myself. I mounted it all on a simple piece of scrap wood; well it’s scrap wood now. We, didn’t need that table anyway (shhhhhhh don’t tell the wife).
Then one day it all came together. I hit the power switch, placed the head to the metal, started the arc, felt the air kick and then a second hard kick (the current being drawn into play). Then BAM, it was slicing through quarter inch steel like a hot knife through butter.

Milk top bowl
matt.sims.37266

Hi
This insturctable will go through how I turn milk bottle tops (and various odd ones) into blanks for working with, mainly for turning but you can work it just like timber so your imagination is your limit :)
To start off with you need LOTS, just to be clear here LOTS of milk bottle/coke/fabricsoftner tops I get various places like cafes, staff canteens an family to save them for me just ask whoever you can.
A mold, this should be near the shape/size you want to use less caps, in my case im making a bowl so i used a bowl. If you want to be safe have one that you can melt into at 200 celsius because trying to melt it and move molds is unplesnt the lids retain loads of heat and stick to most surfaces so its just asking to cause serious burns.
An oven to melt it in. an expensive bit of kit but if you look hard in the kitchen (the place you take the lawnmower apart when it breaks before you manly shave the lawn) you might be as suprised as me that you already have one. (same applies to the mold the next cake my wife bakes will have plastic in it...)
And a work shop or tools to create! in this case a lathe was all i needed

CNC Plasma Table
simonrafferty
So , you've bought a plasma cutter and you wish you could accurately cut your designs in metal. Tracing lines by hand gives disappointing results and CNC Plasma tables are way out of your budget. Sound familiar? Well, that's what I thought anyway!
If you have not bought your plasma cutter yet - there are a few things to bear in mind!
  1. The cutter must have 'HF Start' (Cheap cutters sometimes use 'scratch start' where you have to touch the torch on to the metal to strike the arc. Sadly, these will not work with CNC, least not this one!)
  2. If you have the option (can afford it) buy one with 'Pilot Arc'. If the torch moves over a poorly conducting area of metal such as rust, paint or a hole, the arc can go out and it will stop cutting. A Pilot Arc, like the pilot light in your boiler re-lights the arc if it extinguishes. It means you can cut pretty much anything no matter how grotty the surface looks.
  3. If you can, go for a branded cutter. Hypertherm are probably the best - or at least best known. They will give you the best cut quality and cut thickness for a given quoted power (some of the cheaper ones are a bit optimistic with the quoted power and cut thickness!). I started with a cheap cutter (which was actually pretty good) then upgraded to a used Hypertherm 40A machine which was cheaper than a new 'no-brand' machine.
  4. Go for the highest power you can afford. My original 30A cutter claimed to be able to cut 12mm thick - but the most it could realistically cut was 6mm. My new 40A Hypertherm claims 19mm cut thickness - and can indeed cut it (not very tidily though). It will cut nicely at 12mm thickness though.
This plasma table has been designed to work with whatever plasma torch
you have whether hand-held or a full blown CNC Torch. The mounting plate has been designed to be adaptable as possible. You can either attach the torch with zip-ties or U Bolts depending on how often you need to take it off.

Spiral Cut a Wooden Dowel Using a Table Saw
bradk3

My imagination was recently captured by an Instructable by a user named Seamster on how to build a wooden marble coaster. Since it looked like it was within range of my very limited woodworking abilities, I decided to attempt building one of my own. The only real sticking point was the spiral screw used to bring marbles to the top of the coaster.

Seamster used a Dremel to hand-carve the screw from a rounded piece of 2x4. I initially tried this with a store-bought wooden dowel, but quickly lost patience with the process (it turns out that I'm far lazier than I thought). I decided to see if I could figure out a faster way to carve out a wooden screw. I quickly hit upon a very simple method. This has probably been done before, but I'll document it here, just in case.
Step 1: Equipment and material
Picture of Equipment and material
The only woodworking equipment you will need to do this is:
- a table saw with a decent blade
- a miter gauge (pictured)
- a drill
- a suitable drill bit for your screws
- a clamp
- a screwdriver
- a pencil
...and that's it!

Adaptable Wheelchair for handicapped Dogs
aimzzz
A few months ago we discovered Luisa, a handicapped puppy who was born without forelegs on the website of an animal protection organisation (www.pro-tier.de) and decided to build a 3D-printed wheelchair for her. In the meantime we finished the wheelchair and have adopted Luisa. This project is open-source and we want to give everybody the opportunity to help a handicapped animal with this instructable and the 3D-Files we uploaded with it.
The Wheelchair comes in two sizes (The bigger size consists of several parts, so that it can be printed on smaller printers as well) and is adjustable in every possible aspect (width, height,camber,...).
All printed parts were printed by my company (www.multec.de) on our biggest 3d printer (Multirap M420). Of course the files can be printed on any printer, as long as the print area is big enough.

How To Make Pierce Work Jewelry
silvertinkerer

This is how to make jewelry items out of sheet metal with decorative holes. I will show you how to make a pin with the piece I cut out. There is almost no limit to what you can make with enough thought behind this process.
I am using a .80mm thick plate of sterling silver to demonstrate. I will be cutting out a rose design. I will be making this into a pin so I will need the clasp, hinge, & pin parts as well. I am also going to add color epoxy to this later on, you don’t need to do that. I will talk about finishes & other options later. Last but in no way least you need a design to cut out. I went to Google & looked for line art flowers to get my design.

Nail Bottle Opener
sbanas

I've seen these nail bottle openers online, and thought I would make one. They are super simple, but still very interesting, it can basically be a block of wood and a nail. I also wanted mine to be a little bit smaller and look better.

For this project all I used was:

- Scrap 1x4
- Scrap Nail, I used the biggest one I could find laying around
- Neodymium Magnet
- Special Walnut Colored Stain
- Epoxy
- Shellac Finish
- Template
- Black Spray Paint
