This video is a commercial of sorts, but it has good info on the Rapid
Prototyping process.  There are some really cool shapes and ideas of
what people are doing with 3D Printing.

Um Interruptor de 5 Nanómetros promete revolucionar os Circuitos Integrados:

O Metal Tório promete Reactores Nucleares de ter por casa, e muito mais seguros que os actuais, o Tório recicle-se a si próprio!
There is no certain bet in nuclear physics but work by Nobel laureate Carlo Rubbia at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) on the use of thorium as a cheap, clean and safe alternative to uranium in reactors may be the magic bullet we have all been hoping for, though we have barely begun to crack the potential of solar power.
Dr Rubbia says a tonne of the silvery metal – named after the Norse god of thunder, who also gave us Thor’s day or Thursday - produces as much energy as 200 tonnes of uranium, or 3,500,000 tonnes of coal. A mere fistful would light London for a week.
Thorium eats its own hazardous waste. It can even scavenge the plutonium left by uranium reactors, acting as an eco-cleaner. "It’s the Big One," said Kirk Sorensen, a former NASA rocket engineer and now chief nuclear technologist at Teledyne Brown Engineering.

Duas boas notícias...

Duas boas notícias, e bem que precisamos delas...

A primeira, Amortecedores que produzem Electricidade, era uma maravilha para as ruas de Lisboa...

Electricity-Generating Shock Absorbers

Levant Power saves fuel by turning road shocks and vibrations into electricity.

By Kevin Bullis

Shock absorbers that generate electricity, which are being developed by Cambridge, MA-based Levant Power, can lower fuel consumption by 1.5 to 6 percent, depending on the vehicle and driving conditions. The system can also improve vehicle handling.

A outra boa notícia, um Reactor Italo-Russo faz progressos no rumo à fusão Auto-Sustentada, Eletricidade à borla, em breve:

Nuclear Reactor Aims for Self-Sustaining Fusion

Italian-Russian reactor could be the first to reach a major milestone.

By Phil McKenna

In a few years, an experimental nuclear fusion reactor near Moscow could be the first to yield a self-sustaining fusion reaction. If the Italian-Russian project is successful, it would be a key milestone for fusion power.
The proposed reactor is based on a design developed by Bruno Coppi, a professor of physics at MIT, and principal investigator on the reactor project with Italy's National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Environment. Three similar reactors based on the same design have already been built at MIT. Italian and Russian physicists plan to meet on May 24 to chart a course for the new reactor, called Ignitor, in the first such meeting since the two countries agreed to join forces on the project in April.

Fusão em todo o lado?

Fusão em todo o lado?
We may even have to simply ground the excess in many cases.  Needless to say this technology if it succeeds will be a complete revolution of the global economy as we can expect these devices to be placed everywhere including trains and ships.  It will also be swift.  Both this technology and the polywell are amenable to early mass production since no radioactive shielding is needed.

Scientists Overcome Obstacle to Fusion
The world's largest laser system has uniformly compressed and superheated a fuel capsule.
By Kevin Bullis
One of the key outstanding questions about whether it's possible to use lasers to ignite fusion has been answered. A huge, stadium-sized laser facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, uniformly compressed and heated a tiny capsule to very high temperatures. The experiments confirmed a theory the scientists there had about how to control the energy from 192 high-power lasers to compress the spherical capsule evenly from all sides.

Um novo Bio-Combustível de Alta Densidade:

New Process Yields High-Energy-Density, Plant-Based Transportation Fuel
by Staff Writers
Madison WI (SPX) Mar 01, 2010
A team of University of Wisconsin-Madison engineers has developed a highly efficient, environmentally friendly process that selectively converts gamma-valerolactone, a biomass derivative, into the chemical equivalent of jet fuel.

While biofuels such as ethanol are becoming more popular as blending agents in automobile fuels, they have limitations for use in jet fuel because of their low energy density. And, given present internal combustion engine designs, conventional biofuels cannot fully replace petroleum-derived hydrocarbons.
