Robot Cat

By 陳亮

I am playing with the well known Strandbeest many years ago and really love the artificial life. And then I tried Trotbot, but sorry about not yet built Wadevag suggested Strider :P

Two years ago, I start saw many robot cats and dogs projects on the web. They works, walk well and can do some pose. The only shortcoming is it does not look like a cat or dog.

So I try to build my own robot cat. The main target are look like a cat, act like a cat.

The Secret to Cutting a Ball On a Manual Lathe

Arnold's Design

It's true. They don't show you this sort of thing when you take machining courses. Here I show you how a ball turning fixture works. There are a lot of different types of ball making fixtures, but this one is unique because it allows you to offset your cutting tool so that the rest of the fixture doesn't get hit by spinning lathe jaws.

Introducing FinalProof

Arthur.

To give life to the vision we have for online 3D printing, 2014 was all about empowering our users with one-click features to give them control over their 3D designs, preparing them for a successful print. Batch Control, Hollowing, Thickening and revamped Solidity Check features were launched. This year, we take it to the next level by introducing FinalProof, the first 3D printing simulator and the 3D Print Dossier.
The challenge faced by many 3D printing users is knowing if their 3D print will live up to what they have imagined. Like any other fabrication method, 3D printing has its own particularities such as surface texture or variable printing solidity depending on part-thickness, to name a few. For a detailed breakdown of these particularities when you’re about to order a 3D print, we’ve launched FinalProof and the 3D Print Dossier.

Voxel8 Demonstrates Its Electronics-Capable 3D Printer at CES 2015
Mike Senese

Voxel8’s 3D printer is a game changer. The dual-head machine outputs plastic in standard FDM style, but also has a conductive paste extruder to allow you to create built-in electronic circuitry into your design. That’s right — 3D printable electronics.
Working with Autodesk, they’ve created software that allows you to specify your desired circuit pathways, as well as the location of the electronic components needed for it. Then it does something really slick: It automatically prints the appropriately sized cavity for the components (along with conductive traces), pauses to allow you to place the components into the spaces, and then continues printing, encapsulating them into the design.
At CES2015, the team demonstrated a fleet of micro quadcopters built using this technique. They’re currently taking preorders for the $9000 machine, and aim to be shipping later this year.

Why purchase the Cube 3D Free device ?

Sold to more than 28 Countries, the CUBE 3D FREE device allows the use of alternative filaments on printers CUBE Gen 1, Gen 2, CubeX, duo, trio from Cubify. These devices allow to pay 12x lower prices than original materials.
Buy now the device,  and stop paying more  than USD 150.00 per Kg by original cartridges if you can pay since USD 15.00 by bulk filaments.

Coflex: Sugru and Duct Tape Have a Baby

ktana
Sugru rocks, but it can be expensive and permanent, duct tape holds the universe together but it's sort of permanent and not at all repositionable, and can be stiff and thick. That's where coflex comes in. Coflex is inexpensive, sticks to itself and you don't have to wait for it to dry or set. Also known as vet wrap, coban, flex wrap, cohesive bandage wrapping tape, sport wrap, and a bunch of other names, it's used in medicine for bandaging, holding things together and a bunch of other uses that aren't official.

Make a Portable WorkstationBenne
After having finished my CNC router (see my other Instructable), my workshop (a small shed in my backyard 3 x 6 m), became pretty full. The only other tools that I can fit in there are a small table saw, a drill press and some small powertools and handtools. So most of my woodworking happens outside. Next to woodworking and CNC stuff, I also like to work on smaller projects with electronics, which requires soldering etc. Since my 'workshop' is pretty full, I didn't have a proper place to work on these smaller projects. So I just moved some of my smaller tools (screwdrivers, soldering iron, pliers etc.) into my bedroom and worked on my electonics projects there. My parents were ok with the fact that I did some soldering in my bedroom, (better than in the kitchen or the living room), but didn't like the fact that my tools were laying all over the place. The table I was doing my work on also became pretty dented and full of glue and solder blobs.

Energia Grátis Made in Brazil?

BREAKING: Inventors Harness Free Energy with New Device
BRAZIL | Has the secret to boundless free energy been discovered? Well according to two Brazilian inventors it has.

On February 11, 2013 the two inventors posted a video of themselves demonstrating a device powering a bank of lights.

A few months later, On July 7th 2013, inventors Nilson Barbosa and Cleriston Lea filed an international patent on on the device stating it will produce free energy. Now the pair have stated they'll be selling the small device to the people of Imperatriz, Brazil.
Its called the Earth Electron Captor Generator, and according to the patent it works like this, "Earth Energy is electromagnetic energy that can be instantly obtained to perform work through an electromagnetic field connected to earth"

After an initial "power up" from "any" electrical source a sensor begins to rotate creating what is known as "over-unity power"
Over-unity devices have long been criticized because some claim it violates the laws of physics. however this has clearly not stopped Barbosa and Lea.

The pair have created multiple sizes of the generator. The smallest is capable of generating 12.1 kw of power, with a load of 6000 watts, using only 21 watts input energy. The team believes it can power a family home or automobile.
It should be noted however that anytime technology such as this surfaces, it generally disappears just as fast.

2013 3D Printer Comparison Guide
Randall Marsh

The 3D printer industry is growing in both the professional and maker markets. With more and more 3D printers diving under the US$4,000 price-point, is it time for you to pick up one of your own? Though the consumer end of the market is still young, business is booming, and this disruptive technology is something that will definitely appeal to many Gizmag readers. That’s why we’ve taken the top desktop 3D printers and lined them up for a side-by-side comparison.

Paperduino 2.0 with Circuit Scribe - Paper Arduino

What if making an Arduino, or wiring up an Arduino was as easy as printing one out? In this tutorial we printed our own Arduino Pro Mini board using a pen plotter and the Electroninks Circuit Scribe (a rollerball pen with highly conductive ink). Within 15 minutes we printed the board, placed components down with glue or tape, and uploaded a sketch.

air-conditioned shirt

mikeasaurus
Air conditioned shirt keeps you cool while looking professional; so you can keep your cool. This air-conditioned short has two fans (on either side near the back of this dress shirt) that force cool air under the clothing and out through the collar and cuff openings. Perfect for those long, hot summer days stuck at the office. I've explored alternative clothing to keep cool at work before, and this air-conditioned shirt is a fine additional to my cooling arsenal.

I was inspired to make the air conditioned shirt after seeing the commercially available one from Kuchofuku (Japan). They are the "only one company in the world" that makes them, and they retail retail for $138. Using reclaimed computer fans, scrap electronics, and a dapper dress shirt from the thrift store, I was able to make this AC Shirt for around $10 - and can work with almost any type or style of shirt or pants.

Limbo lower now: 3D-printed STAR bot flattens itself to crawl under doorways

Jonathan Fincher

Nature has been the source of inspiration for a variety of different forms of robotic locomotion. Yet another example is the STAR, a 3D-printed robot modeled after an insect's ability to squeeze into even the tiniest spaces. Developed by students at UC Berkeley's Biomimetic Millisystems Lab the STAR, which stands for Sprawl Tuned Autonomous Robot, is able to flatten its legs down to slip under a small gap and then raise them up again to climb over larger obstacles.

Power Triple Lock - TE Connectivity

danielevalenti

TE Connectivity’s new POWER TRIPLE LOCK (PTL) connector solution directly responds to the appliance industry’s desire for increased reliability and functionality, security and ease of use.

TE Connectivity has introduced the POWER TRIPLE LOCK connector solution to address the appliance industry’s needs and concerns. As its name suggests, the PTL has three integral mechanisms to ensure reliable connections. Additionally, several features designed into the connector family offer significant benefits compared to more traditional connectors.
Improving upon current designs, the POWER TRIPLE LOCK’s built-in latching capability comes from reducing two latches to a single, robust latch that makes it easier to connect and improves connector reliability. The optional connector position assurance (CPA) device helps insure full mating of the connector and keeps the connector mated during shipment, installation or when the appliance is in use.

5-Axis machining for Mold and Die

More companies are investing in 5-axis technology for milling mold & die components. Part of this is certainly because of the growing numbers of different models of 5-axis machining centers becoming available in the marketplace. As with many other advanced technologies, new entries into the market place have brought innovation providing high functionality for lower costs. One such example is from the camera phone video below. This was from the IMTS 2012 exhibit trade show, and shows a Hurco iSeries mill performing smooth 5-axis movements on a part that had truly a mirror finish.

Eis a futura Estação Antártica Comandante Ferraz:

Winning design chosen for Brazil's new Antarctic base

Antonio Pasolini

In February 2012 the Brazilian research base in Antarctica was almost entirely destroyed by a fire caused by an overflowing of the fuel tanks that fed the generator. Two people died and the operation suffered a financial loss of R$25m (US$12.4million). Fast forward to 2013 and the future looks much brighter for Estação Antártica Comandante Ferraz, as the station is officially called.
The winning proposal for the new Ferraz Antarctic station was announced by the Brazilian navy at a recent event in Rio de Janeiro. The commission for the R$105m ($52.3 million) complex went to Estúdio 41, a Curitiba-based design practice, which won R$100,000 (US$49,700) as part of the competition.
“The project is in the preliminary study stage and the complete executive version is due to be completed at the end of the year,” Estúdio 41 architect Eron Costin told Gizmag. It is hoped the new station will be ready to operate by March 2015.

Benefits of Supercapacitors in Industrial Handheld Devices (Cap-XX)

neilgunby

We've often been asked to explain about using supercapacitors in battery operated equipment and so decided to present this article written by Jean Pierre Mars, VP Applications Engineering, CAP-XX (Australia) Pty Ltd.
Portable electronic devices for commercial applications must meet more stringent performance requirements and specifications than their consumer counterparts, and may have many power hungry features which need to operate simultaneously. A supercapacitor offers several key benefits when incorporated into the power architecture of an industrial handheld device.
Pulse power support: The supercapacitor provides the peak current required by all high power loads in the device, including GSM/GPRS and RFID communications, thermal printers, LED flash, bar code scanners, GPS chips, display refreshes, hard disk drives and audio amplifiers. This reduces stress on the battery, minimizing voltage droop, improving run-time (transactions per charge) and extending battery life.

 Bicycle wheel truing stand
ehsiung

This is a simple truing stand for bicycle wheels. It's no-frills so it might not appeal to professional bike mechanics but it's perfect for recreational bikers who might only build a few wheels a year. It's made from just a few pieces of steel so it's cheap, and it breaks down nicely for storage.

I made it at TechShop.
www.techshop.ws

To create this wheel truing stand you’ll need the following raw materials:
- 36 in. x 2 in. x 1/8 in. steel angle
- 36 in. x 1 in. x 1/8 in. steel angle

Steel angle (aka angle iron) is just a length of steel that is bent at a 90 degree angle along its long axis, forming an L in cross-section. It’s pretty cheap and you can get the two pieces you need from your big-box hardware depot for about $20.

4 Easy Steps to Creating a Unique Wine Bottle Lamp
KentM

Making a table lamp from a wine (or any type of) bottle seems to be a very popular craft project. However, while the lamps I saw online were OK, I always considered them little more than a novelty item.  That's when I decided to take a crack at designing one myself. And, after I made my first wine bottle lamp, friends and family began asking me to make lamps for them or to give as gifts. For that reason, I decided to create this instructable and share my four easy steps on how to make a wine bottle lamp that will be as distinctive and unique as the person who creates it.
