We first used rapid prototyping in 1996.  Working on the development of a new smart parking meter that could sense the arrival and departure of cars, we knew that rapid prototyping would give us a low-risk method to test the form, fit, and function of custom meter components.  First, we had to laboriously turn our 2-D AutoCAD drawings into 3-D solid models.  Then, we had to navigate the dizzying array of material and process options.  When we went to the vendor to pick up the parts, we were horrified when one of the prototype pieces fell off the table and broke in half.  Later, with much careful handling, we assembled two rapid-prototyped parking meters.  And they worked!  Most significantly, they convinced the investors that the project was viable, which led to a USD$120,000 investment in plastic injection molding tooling for the high volume manufacture of smart parking meters.

There is a growing interest in combining electronic components with textiles. One of the difficulties with this is the connection of components, which are traditionally designed to be soldered to a solid board rather than stitched to a soft fabric.

Mindsets has developed a range of LEDs and a switch that can easily be stitched onto a fabric using conductive thread.
Mindsets has also sourced a range of other materials and components to inspire project work using new conductive technologies.

AEG X200, o dual SIM QWERTY mais pequeno do mercado

A AEG anunciou o lançamento do novo telemóvel dual SIM AEG X200.
Este é o telemóvel com teclado full QWERTY mais pequeno do mercado (9,8×5,4×1,3cm) e tem capacidade de utilização para dois cartões SIM em simultâneo.
Com apenas 80gr, o AEG X200 é também um dos mais leves telefones disponíveis no mercado. O design é surpreendente e adapta-se perfeitamente a um público que tem como objectivo principal ter um telemóvel prático e funcional para trocar SMS e estar sempre actualizado nas redes sociais.
