Technologically, the nano graphene-based, ionic liquid-enabled supercapacitor provides a specific energy density of 85.6 Wh/kg (based on the total electrode weight) at room temperature and 136 Wh/kg at 80°C, both measured at a current density of 1 A/g (corresponding to a high charge/discharge rate).

a) These are the highest energy density values ever reported for nano carbon material-based supercapaitors dominated by the electric double layer (EDL) mechanism, with minimal contribution from any redox-type pseudocapacitance mechanism.

b) These energy density values are comparable to that of the Ni metal hydride battery. This new technology provides an energy storage device that stores nearly as much energy as in a battery, but can be recharged in seconds or minutes. We believe that this is truly a breakthrough in energy technology.

The theoretical capacitance of graphene is 550 F/g (Farads per gram).

Um Computador Modular, em 3 partes:

Xi3 modular computer to make global debut at CES 2011

By Paul Ridden

13:00 December 1, 2010

There seems to be a different computer solution for every desktop and network problem – from home systems to home built machines to those that serve the business community. The Xi3 Corporation claims that its scalable, modular system offers a somewhat different approach to the rest of the field. Each palm-sized cube features interchangeable and adjustable boards for maximum adaptability, Dual Core processing power and low power consumption.

Built on an architecture developed by ISYS Technologies, the Xi3 Modular Computer system benefits from up to 2GB of DDR2 memory (with 4GB coming in the future), is full 1080p high definition capable, and sports USB 2.0, DVI, eSATA, Ethernet and audio ports. There's also something called the Xm3dia (pronounced "X media") port – a new technology developed for the Xi3 system which is described by the company as "a powerful, feature-rich, bus system designed for limitless expansion."

3D-printed sand Microclimates to cool public places

The lack of cooling in large open areas inevitably sends people scurrying for air-conditioned buildings on hot days. Taking a leaf from traditional Islamic architecture that dealt with the harsh desert climate with Mashrabiyas – a projecting latticework window that provides shade from the hot sun while allowing cool air from the street to flow through – London-based design firm PostlerFeruson has designed a kind of three dimensional Mashrabiya that can cool the immediate area in an energy-free way.

Xtrac shows seamless gearchange alternative to dual clutch transmission

By Mike Hanlon

21:41 December 1, 2010

After two years secret development in motorsport competition, Xtrac unveiled an important new driveline technology this week in the form of an Instantaneous Gearchange System (IGS). It does exactly the same thing a dual clutch transmission achieves with less weight, cost, and complexity. The secret to Xtrac IGS is the integration of a ratchet and pawl mechanism between each gear hub and the main shaft so that two consecutive gear ratios can be selected and engaged simultaneously, but with only one set of gears driving.

Conventional gearboxes have always had some serious problems associated with needing to interrupt engine torque in order to change gear. Apart from increasing fuel usage, hydrocarbon and CO2 emissions, momentarily cutting power delivery to the rear wheels obviously also reduces performance.
