Print, Assemble, Drive: The 3-D Printed Plastic Car
France Diep
In a convention center in Chicago, there's a living-room-sized 3-D printer that's just finished printing the parts for a driveable plastic car. The engineers working on the car -- including those involved in developing the plastic, the printer, and the car design -- are hoping to have something ready to drive off the premises by the end of the week.
The printer is the world's first large-scale 3-D printer that works with polymers, Oak Ridge National Laboratory engineer Lonnie Love told the Chicago Tribune. Oak Ridge worked with a company called Cincinnati Incorporated to develop the printer. "It builds some of the biggest parts in the world, faster than anything else," Love said.

Toyota’s Unveils New Maker Vehicle Concept — to Makers
Nathan Hurst

On Wednesday, Toyota unveiled a concept car not at an auto show, but to a panel of makers. It was a first of its kind and it was hosted by Make:, and with good reason — the car, called the U2, was designed with makers in mind.
The makers, nearly a dozen, from bay-area institutions like the University of California and NASA, to startup founders and artists, crowded around the vehicle at San Francisco’s historic Palace of Fine Arts. Toyota was here, said the company’s American president, Kevin Hunter, to get feedback from makers, asking “How’d we do with this thing?”

Make Professional Quality Knives at Home

Zaphod Beetlebrox
Custom knifes are a staple of most professional cooks and chefs and can range in price from $200-$3000; however, you should be able to complete one knife for about $10 worth of steel and without power tools!

I wouldn't say that this is a very difficult project more that it requires a lot of patience and time, so get your audio books ready. Each knife requires about 20hr of work, there are ways to reduce this but it will require more money and probably more waiting.
