Façam a vossa Impressora 3D!

Cheap Scalable Arduino CNC (Plotter, Mill, 3D Printer...)

mendelecha1
In this Instructable I'll show you how to make a cheap scalable CNC machine controlled by Arduino. My printer has a usable volume of 1500x1000x200mm. It will provide a computer controlled plate where you can add any kind of tool for your application: laser, mill, drilling machine, 3D printer head, pencil…
THIS IS MY FIRST INSTRUCTABLE, PLEASE VOTE IT IN THE First Time Author Contest!!!
In order to maximize customization capabilities and reduce costs:
Most parts are 3D printed
Open source hardware / software
Tube profiles work as Rails
If you are looking for a CNC but don’t want a single purpose thousand-dollar machine, this is your project!!
Be sure to watch the video above, and if you like it please consider subscribing to my channel which has been recently created and will be updated with new amazing projects.
Before starting you should know the usable length, width and height you want for your machine. The less heigth (Z) the better.
This project is based on Allted's design CC BY-NC 3.0

LOL

Make Your Own POV LED Globe

GreatScottLab
In this project I will show you how I combined a couple steel pieces with an Arduino, an APA102 LED Strip and a Hall effect sensor in order to create a POV (persistence of vision) RGB LED Globe. WIth it you can create all kinds of spherical pictures or even letters which is a definite eyecatcher. Let's get started!

Guide: How to Finish 3D Prints

brett
While I have 3D printed hundreds of designs over the years, not once have I taken the steps to finish a single print. There are plenty of videos and articles covering the process but they are often a general overview and leave out small but important bits of information. For someone inexperienced like myself who prefers to follow explicit instructions, the artistic process can be a rather daunting task. Unfortunately I purchased my 3D Printers for costume and prop design and can’t leave them unfinished forever, where this guide will cover my successful, albeit awkward adventure into the task of post processing 3D prints.

Peltier Cooling for ZWO Astro Camera

After stumbling on these two YouTube vids showing how to add cooling to an uncooled ZWO Optics Astro Cam
DIY Guide Making a Peltier cooling fan mod for ZWO ASI120MC S
Peltier Cooler for ZWO Cameras - Based on Martin Pyott's Vid
I thought I'd give it a go myself.
My completed mod is shown in the image above.

CraftWare
Overview
CraftWare is a FREE, fast, easy-to-use slicer software that converts your digital 3D object into a .gcode toolpath format understood by most 3D printers.
CraftWare primarily works as a slicer for solid 3D digital objects, but it is also an excellent tool for many other tasks. You can interactively manage your prints, thus reducing build time and finding the optimal build supports. CraftWare also utilizes the most impressive gcode visualizer on the market; this allows you to see each print layer-by-layer, from any angle, easily allowing you to detect any places that you may want to modify before printing. It is basically like seeing a finished print in front of you before you press the start button.
CraftWare utilizes dual channel communication for real time interaction between the software and the printer -just another great tweaking option.

FELIZ ANO NOVO!

About Rat Rig

Rat Rig is a Portuguese company that develops Hardware for creatives, both hobbyists and professionals. We design and sell affordable hardware for various fields such as photography and audio.

Our Products
Rat Rig will become a place of interest to people in various fields such as Photographers, Video and Filming professionals, Music producers both Live and in Studio, 3D Printer and CNC enthusiasts, among others. We have a whole line of interesting products in the design phase. These will be both affordable and innovative. Most of our products will rely on a 2cm extruded black aluminium rail called V-Slot, which not only looks good but is really functional in so many ways. It is also an open source design. It differs from normal extrusion due to its 45º angled concave openings. This allows to easily setup a non-static mecanic system which operates with one or more of its parts in motion.

Microwaves enable economical recycling of plastic-aluminum laminates
Darren Quick

You may not know what they're called, but odds are you've eaten or drunk something from them. I'm referring to plastic-aluminum laminate (PAL) packaging, which has long been used for toothpaste tubes and in recent years has gained popularity as pouches for food, drink and pet food. Although it threatens to approach the ubiquity of the aluminum can or plastic bottle, PAL packaging lacks the familiar recyclable logo found on cans and bottles. But that could be set to change, with a process to recover the metals contained in PAL packaging, developed some 15 years ago by researchers at the University of Cambridge, now being demonstrated in a full commercial-scale plant.

The Art of Ancient Hands
Paul Sellers
A Chisel 1/16” slides into pine like a hot knife into butter. Mortising holes is not always for large work. Many years ago a customer brought hundreds of rosewood parts to me in a cardboard box. It was a multifaceted Chinese lantern made up of frames that housed painted glass panels. Each meeting point intersected with mitred tenons into mitred reception mortises on the adjacent stiles. The owner had missing parts by the dozen, but in the scheme and scale of things, what was missing seemed very small.

New Sony X70 - a 20 megapixel 4K-upgradable XDCAM. Our first hands-on report

Sony has this week announced a small XDCAM camcorder with an unusually high specifiation - which will be extended to 4K with a future upgrade
The world contains a lot of small, handheld camcorders. They're often especially small and hand-holdable now we're beyond the point of including a tape mechanism and the only moving part is often in the lens. Sony's new PMW-X70, therefore, enters a crowded field, and needs some genuinely interesting specifications to distinguish itself.
Perhaps the most arresting development in the X70 is the sensor – the same one-inch chip as has already been deployed in the FDR-AX100 and in at least one of Sony's compact stills cameras. This technological convergence is no great surprise, although this is the first time we've seen  the sensor married to a 4:2:2 10-bit recording system, which should be as able as anything to demonstrate the successes – and failures, if any – of the imager.

Edison offers affordable and Lego-compatible robotics education

Heidi Hoopes

Named to reflect its "inventive spirit," Edison features a host of sensors and runs on open source software. Each small bot is programmable and interacts with the world via IR transmitters and receivers, line tracking, barcode reading, playing sounds and music, and sound detection. One Edison can communicate with another over IR, with the units also able to be programmed to by controlled via TV and DVD remotes.
It’s in Edison’s open source programming tool where the micro action really happens. Edware, similar to Scratch and other graphical drag-and-drop programming languages, allows users to create programs for Edison that users can upload to the bot via their computer’s headphone jack and a cable that ships with the robots. Edware is already available for download for Windows only, though Linux and Mac versions will be provided later.

LED Nametag

As a part of the Helle Koepfe-workshop for kids we designed some nametags, such that each kid could make their own led nametag at their short visit of the FabLab Aachen. Therefore ist shouldn't be too complicated, fast to build, not too expensive, and has to be awesome... at least that were the requirements.
Only a 2032 coin cells, two bright 3mm leds and a piece of 2mm acrylic and two short pieces of wire are necessery. The clip-on could be of cource be replaced by a piece of wire, but we had a bunch of them from another project.
The one and only tool which is used is the epilog zing laser cutter of the fablab.
